Chapter 221 Another One
As Percival was infuriated, Munro and Cherry were instantly speechless. Neither of them had expected him to be so adamant about the engagement, leaving no room for negotiation whatsoever.
"Grandpa, take care of your health. Don't get angry!" Chloe urged, startled. She was afraid that his agitation might worsen his health, so she quickly tried to calm Percival down.
Percival furiously stated, "You are not even a tenth as good as your daughter. Let me make it clear today, it's impossible to marry Chloe to the Ashford family!"
Percival panted heavily, glaring at Cherry and Munro as he warned them again.
"Dad, isn't that a bit too much? We're also thinking about the Miller family. How is that sacrificing Chloe? Is Kenny really that bad? After all, he's the heir of the Ashford family!" Cherry remarked as she found it hard to agree with Percival, defending herself.
"If Chloe doesn't want to marry Kenny, no one can force her!" Percival snorted coldly and then turned his gaze to Ethan. "Ethan, come here!"
Ethan hadn't planned to get involved, but he didn't expect Percival to suddenly call him over. He thought, 'What will be, will be.' He took a deep breath and walked over to Percival.
Standing next to Percival, Chloe gave Ethan a helpless look. He responded with a smile, which reassured her quite a bit.
"As you know, Munro and Cherry are against your relationship and want to marry her off to someone else. I want to know your thoughts now!" Percival and asked stared directly at Ethan.
"My stance was made very clear at the engagement party yesterday. Anyone who dares to take Chloe from me, I'll send them to the hospital!" Ethan replied with a carefree laugh.
And indeed, Kenny was still lying in the hospital. Who would dare think Ethan was joking?
"Good! The reason I called you here today is to make things clear in front of Munro and Cherry. From today on, you are my grandson-in-law! Anyone who tries to break you two apart will be going against me!" Percival declared, firmly, then suddenly burst into a hearty laughter.
He didn't find Ethan arrogant; rather, he admired his bold and decisive nature. In critical moments, wasn't a reliable man exactly what a woman needed?
Since Ethan could create chaos at the Ashford family's engagement party, take Chloe back, and beat Kenny up which sent him to the hospital, what else did Percival have to worry about?
Ethan was bold because he was strong and capable, not reckless. This was what pleased Percival the most!
Hearing Percival's words, Munro and Cherry were mortified.
"You two should listen carefully as well. From now on, if I hear any more talk from any of you about marrying Chloe into the Ashford family, I'll cut ties with you and you'll be out of the Miller family!" Percival warned as he turned to Cherry and Munro.
Munro and Cherry's faces changed instantly. Wasn't this tantamount to expelling them from the Miller family?
"Fine, I won't interfere with the engagement anymore. Since you have such strong opinions, I won't meddle in this matter! But if the Ashford family demands an explanation, I can't help with that. You'll have to explain it to them yourself!" Cherry snorted coldly. She was obviously furious and turned to walk back to the backyard, disappearing in no time.
Given the situation, was there any need for her to stay and continue embarrassing herself?
"I won't get involved in this matter anymore as well. Whatever happens, happens!" Munro's face was equally grim. Considering Percival's personality, there was no room for him to argue.
Percival might even kick him out of the Miller family, and he couldn't afford such a disgraceful outcome!
"Don't be in such a hurry to leave!" Percival called him back, seeing Munro was about to follow Cherry out.
"What else do you need?" Munro took a deep breath and asked patiently.
"Notify all the heads of the Miller family businesses to come here for a meeting this afternoon," Percival instructed calmly, but his tone left no room for doubt.
"Understood!" Munro replied, paused for a moment, then turned and left with a grim expression.
Soon, only Merrick, Lyra, and Ethan were left in the hall.
"Dad, if there's nothing else, I'll take my leave and let the younger ones keep you company," Merrick softly asked Percival and glanced at Ethan.
"Alright, you can go. Let Lyra stay!" Percival nodded.
Hearing Percival's words, Lyra immediately ran over and explained with a smile, "Grandpa, I've already met Ethan. When I was in trouble before, it was him and Sarah who helped me out!" With Munro and Cherry not around, she was noticeably livelier.
"Isn't that even better? From now on, Ethan is part of our family. You should all get closer and help each other more!" Percival advised and nodded in satisfaction.
"Percival, did you specifically ask Chloe to call me over just to say this?" Ethan asked, at a loss on whether to cry or to laugh.
"What do you think I should say? I've done all I can for now. What happens next is up to you!" Percival reminded Ethan and smiled.
Ethan nodded with a wry smile. He thought, 'It seems that Percival is standing up for me and Chloe. However, the subsequent issues that would arise couldn't be resolved with just a few words from Percival.
'For instance, the relationship between Munro, Cherry, and I. They are, after all, Chloe's biological parents, my future in-laws. If this relationship isn't handled well, Chloe will suffer the most.
'Although Percival helped me today, he also thoroughly reprimanded Munro and Cherry on my behalf! The more significant issue is the problems that would arise after the engagement was called off, such as the Ashford family's reaction and the potential challenges they might face.
'Since these issues stemmed from me, I couldn't just stand by. Percival was making it clear that he had done all he could, and now it is my turn to step up!'
At that moment, Ethan's phone suddenly rang.
"Uncle, are you in Everglow City?" Jayden asked, who had just arrived in Everglow City, and called him.
"Not just me. Alice came along, too!" Jayden added.
Upon hearing it, Ethan instantly froze. He couldn't help but glance at Chloe and Lyra, suddenly feeling a bit guilty.
He pondered, 'Another one!'
"What happened?" Chloe asked, puzzled.
Ethan quickly shook his head to indicate it was nothing, then spoke into the phone, "Why didn't you let me know earlier? I could have picked you up at the airport!"
Jayden helplessly explained, "I wanted to, but Alice said she wanted to surprise you! There is no need to pick us up; Alice has already booked the Moonlit Mirage Hotel on Elm Street. There's a shuttle service, so you don't need to trouble yourself."
Ethan thought to himself, 'How is this a surprise? It's more like a shock!'
