Chapter 446 A Car Accident

Jessie just gave it a quick look and tossed the phone back to Ethan.

"So, what's the game plan now?" Jessie asked, all serious.

"Well, Jared's getting out of the slammer tomorrow, and since we're already here, why not go pick him up together? I mean, he's the one in the thick of it, and it'd be way easier if he speaks for himself!" Ethan shot back right away.

Hearing this, Jessie turned to Gerald. "Gerald, how about we head into the city now? We can crash in Bankgok tonight and grab Jared from prison tomorrow!"

"Is that really necessary? I don't wanna drag you guys into all this back and forth," Gerald said, feeling both touched and kinda embarrassed.

"Gerald, we're family. No need to be all formal. My mom told me you used to look out for her big time. Now that you're in a jam, it's only right we help out. Plus, it's about Jared's bogus conviction. We gotta pick him up and clear his name, get him some justice!" Ethan said, all earnest.

"Gerald, grab your stuff and let's roll. We'll meet up with Emily first!" Jessie urged.

"Alright. If we're doing this, let's do it. Not much to pack anyway. Let's bounce now!" Seeing Ethan and Jessie's eagerness, Gerald felt it'd be rude to hold them up, so he agreed.

Soon enough, the three of them locked up and hit the road.

Ethan was behind the wheel, with Jessie and Gerald in the back, heading towards downtown Bankgok.

"Curtis, why do you think Jessie suddenly came back after all these years?" Meanwhile, in Curtis's villa, Michelle asked, frowning.

"How should I know? She ditched us without a second thought, so I don't give a damn about her now!" Curtis snorted, eyes glued to the news.

"I noticed her son's ride was pretty sweet. She must've been doing alright all these years," Michelle said, thinking back to Ethan's car.

"So what if she's doing well? What's that got to do with us? You think she's gonna come back and share her dough with us? If she really cared, she'd have come back ages ago!" Curtis said, clearly pissed that Jessie had been MIA for twenty years.

"Maybe she just came back to rub it in our faces!" Michelle sneered.

"Driving a fancy car is supposed to impress me? Our son drives a nice car too!" Curtis shot back, dismissively.

As they left Smith Village, the sky started to get dark.

Ethan drove quietly while Gerald and Jessie chatted in the back. They hadn't seen each other in twenty years, so there was a lot to catch up on. Ethan just listened, a smile creeping onto his face.

Half an hour later, they rolled into downtown Bankgok but hit a gnarly traffic jam. Looked like there was a fender bender, with two cars clogging up the road, waiting for the cops to show.

"Where's Emily at? Should we scoop her up first?" Ethan asked Gerald while they were stuck in the gridlock.

"She's chilling at a guesthouse near Bankgok prison. She ain't going anywhere, so no rush," Gerald replied.

Just then, Ethan inched the car past the accident scene.

Only one lane was open, but at least they were moving.

"Isn't that Bradley's ride?" Gerald blurted out, surprised, eyeing one of the wrecked cars.

"Bradley?" Jessie asked, confused.

"Bradley Smith, Curtis's kid. He's 19, runs some biz with his buddies in Bankgok. Always showing off his car, which he bought on credit. I've seen it parked in front of my place a bunch, so I know it," Gerald explained.

Ethan was also taken aback and glanced at the two banged-up cars. One had a crumpled front and a busted headlight, but nothing too crazy. The other was a high-end car that got rear-ended, with a messed-up bumper and chipped paint.

In a rear-ender like that, Bradley would be on the hook for some serious dough. Ethan wondered if Bradley's insurance would cover the fix.

Knowing it was Curtis's kid, Ethan didn't really care. Given Curtis and Michelle's attitude towards Jessie and Gerald's take on Bradley, Ethan had zero sympathy for the guy.

"Let's find a spot to park and see if we can help," Jessie said out of nowhere.

Ethan sighed, knowing he couldn't blow off Jessie's request. He parked nearby, and they walked over to the accident scene.

The owners of the high-end car, a middle-aged couple, were tearing into a young dude, who stood there looking pale and helpless. Gerald immediately pegged him as Bradley.

"Yep, that's Bradley. He's in deep trouble," Gerald sighed.

Just then, the cops rolled up, snapping pics and directing traffic.

Ethan, Jessie, and Gerald hung back in the crowd, watching it all go down.

After documenting the scene, the cops told the drivers to move their cars to the station for further processing, and traffic started flowing again.

"They're heading to the station. We don't need to tag along, right?" Ethan asked Jessie and Gerald.

"He's still your cousin. We can't just leave him hanging. We're not in a rush, so let's hit the station and see what happens," Jessie insisted, giving Ethan no room to argue. She pulled Gerald back to the car.

Ethan chuckled wryly and followed Jessie's lead, driving towards the police station.
