Chapter 367 More Shocking News
Ethan scoffed at Brady's explanation. "So, you're blaming Herman? Sure, he ran off to dodge punishment, but he's been MIA since. It's like he vanished, which means no proof."
"I get it, this alone doesn't prove Herman betrayed your dad, but he's the main suspect! Back then, in the Wilson family, he had the motive!" Brady said seriously.
"Say what you want, but unless you find Herman, this is impossible to verify. " Ethan wasn't buying it.
On the surface, Herman seemed to have the motive because he feared exposure in Silvervale and wanted to get rid of Matthew. But that made even less sense!
Herman was the least likely suspect. If Matthew died, the Wilson family would dig deep. If it were Ethan, he'd just run away!
Would someone kill a Wilson heir knowing they were going to flee?
"Let's drop the mole talk. Even if it's Herman, there had to be others involved! On the day of the incident, the Shadow Gang's defenses around the old house were practically non-existent. Does that seem normal? Herman probably couldn't command the Shadow Gang, right?" Jessie asked.
Brady was speechless; he had no answer.
"Explain, or can't you?" Ethan asked coldly.
Brady nodded grimly. "Yes, I ordered the Shadow Gang to withdraw that day!"
"So you're admitting you got my dad killed?" Ethan snapped.
"No, I got news of a problem within the Shadow Gang, so I had Elmer gather everyone. I didn't expect something to happen right then!" Brady explained quickly.
"Isn't that excuse a bit weak? What kind of problem could there be?" Ethan sneered, not buying it.
"Maybe it had something to do with Herman?" Jessie suggested calmly.
"Yes, during Herman's time in Silvervale, he always had Shadow Gang members with him for supervision. If he had issues, those members might have been bribed. I was investigating because two members who went to Silvervale with Herman disappeared. Right after Matthew's incident, we found out Herman was missing!" Brady explained.
"It sounds plausible, but there's a flaw. If they harmed my dad, why kill him if they were already fleeing?" Ethan sneered.
"You don't have to believe me, but I haven't found any other clues about that car accident! Or rather, it's almost impossible to find answers within the Wilson family!" Brady said, shaking his head.
"You mean find clues from those killers?" Jessie caught on quickly.
"By the way, Mom, I haven't asked you yet. Jayden said you escaped from those killers and gave him the Moon Bead. But how did you end up with Dorian? Were those killers his people?" Ethan asked, frowning.
"No, those killers came from an ancient, almost hidden family. I only learned a bit about them while evading them. They claimed the bead always belonged to their family but was stolen. So, they weren't after your dad but me!" Jessie finally revealed.
Ethan and Brady were both stunned.
"What? How did you get that bead?" Ethan asked, shocked.
"I'll explain later. But your dad got caught up in this because of me, and that's a fact," Jessie said, shaking her head.
"Why didn't you tell me this from the start?" Ethan asked, agitated.
"Would it have made a difference?" Jessie retorted.
Ethan was speechless. Whether the target was Matthew or Jessie, it didn't change much. It just meant the killers had different targets. This ruled out the idea that Brady wanted to eliminate rivals to control the Wilson family, at least on the surface.
"I didn't expect those people to be after you!" Brady sighed, seemingly relieved.
"Do you think this clears you of suspicion?" Ethan said dismissively.
"Believe it or not, I've given my explanation. Jessie, what's the second thing you wanted to know?" Brady asked.
"I already knew the answer to the first question; I just wanted to hear what you'd say," Jessie said calmly.
"Are you satisfied with this answer?" Brady asked, frowning.
"It doesn't matter if I'm satisfied. I'll listen, but whether I believe it is my business. The second thing I want to know: where is Matthew now?" Jessie suddenly changed the subject, making Ethan's eyes widen.
Ethan thought, 'What does that mean? Could Dad still be alive?'
"Jessie, what are you talking about? Matthew is dead! You saw it yourself! Although you disappeared later, we found him and gave him a proper burial. Everyone in the Wilson family knows!" Brady explained, shocked.
"Yes, Matthew was covered in blood and unconscious in the car, but I checked before I left; he was still breathing, and his injuries weren't fatal!" Jessie said with a cold smile.
"No, when Dad was found, he was already dead, and his face was unrecognizable. If it weren't for his clothes and belongings, I wouldn't have recognized him!" Ethan described.
If what Jessie said was true, it wasn't impossible that Matthew had been swapped. Could Matthew really be alive?
"Ethan is right. When we found him, he was already like that. Could it have been those killers?" Brady asked, frowning.
