Chapter 256 Jessie
As the preparation proceeded smoothly, Ethan went to Carlos' study again.
"Any progress?" Ethan asked.
"Our people haven't found anything. Could we be overthinking this? Haven't you already moved into Skyline Center? Have you checked the site yourself?" Carlos asked, frowning.
"I went there myself, finding nothing. Roy really does a thorough job!" Ethan sighed helplessly.
"Why are you so fixated on this? Maybe we're guessing wrong, and there's nothing special about those two floors!" Percival reminded seriously.
"Let's hope so. But there must be something wrong there; I just haven't found the clue yet!" Ethan insisted on his viewpoint. Although it seemed inexplicable to him, he just wanted to get to the bottom of it.
"The eight people we lent you have all returned by noon today. Now it's your turn!" Percival reminded, changing the subject.
Evidently, with the return of the experts they had sent out, they had already guessed Ethan's arrangements.
"I knew I couldn't hide it from you two. Beverly is my most crucial lead; it concerns the situation in Novaria. If this move is successful, Novaria can become another stronghold for us besides Everglow City!" Ethan admitted frankly.
"Tomorrow night's banquet will be quite spectacular. I bet you won't stop until you've infuriated both the Ashford family and the Wilson family!" Carlos shook his head and smiled bitterly, as he thought of Ethan's recent actions.
After sending off Dashiell, Dorian left the villa alone and drove to an inconspicuous two-story building in the suburbs, a shelter he had arranged.
Everything and everyone transferred from the top two floors of Skyline Center had been secretly moved here by him. However, Dorian didn't expect Dashiell to have taken photos during the process!
"Mr. Ashford, why are you here in person?" Roy, who was busy setting up the new place, saw Dorian and his face changed instantly, quickly coming up to greet him.
"Did you notice anything unusual during the transfer?" Dorian asked, squinting his eyes.
"No, weren't you arranging the escort personnel?" Roy was stunned and then asked in confusion.
Dorian's anger was immediately stifled. Indeed, he had arranged the personnel responsible for the transfer himself so that he couldn't blame Roy for any issues!
"How is she?" Dorian changed the subject.
"She was very agitated at first, but we gave her a sedative, and she finally calmed down for a few hours," Roy explained helplessly.
"Take me to see her!" Dorian ordered calmly.
Then, Roy led Dorian to one of the rooms. The room had a simple staircase extending down to the basement, a passageway that had been dug out temporarily.
Since Ethan started eyeing Skyline Center, the cautious Dorian had begun preparing for this, specifically buying this inconspicuous farmhouse in the suburbs and having the basement secretly dug out.
In a closed room with only an iron door, a woman in a white lab coat was currently leaning against a simple wire bed. On the table in front of her was a plate of untouched food.
Jessie still wore a mask, revealing only her haggard eyes filled with a hint of despair.
The sudden sound of the iron door opening made her body tense up. She tried to get off the bed, but one of her hands was cuffed to it, refraining her from moving.
"Unlock her. There's no need to treat her like this," Dorian, who had just entered, ordered calmly.
Roy took out the handcuff key and unlocked her.
"Leave us. I want to talk to her alone," Dorian instructed again.
Roy silently turned and left, closing the heavy iron door behind him.
"What do you want now?" Jessie glared at Dorian with a hint of resentment in her eyes.
"After all these years, you haven't changed a bit. Can't we have a civil conversation for once?" Dorian sighed helplessly.
"Not happening," Jessie scoffed indifferently.
"Do you know why I suddenly took you out of that place?" Dorian suddenly smiled, a smile that sent chills down her spine.
"Is it because someone discovered your schemes, and you're afraid your deeds will be exposed?" Jessie suppressed her unease and sneered.
"I do have that concern, but that's not the main reason. As I said before, if you cooperate with me, I might consider sparing Ethan. I've given you enough time to think about it; don't make me lose my patience completely!" Dorian warned, squinting his eyes.
"Is this sudden transfer also related to him?" Jessie asked, suddenly agitated, rushing up to Dorian and shouting.
"Yes, it is. Ethan made me suffer a great loss this time, but that's all. How could he know that his long-lost mother has been in my hands all along?" Dorian answered directly with a laughter.
"Bastard, what do you want?" Jessie went crazy upon hearing news about Ethan.
"You better calm down. If you have no value to me, I won't hesitate to let both of you die!" Dorian grabbed Jessie's neck unceremoniously, lifting her almost entirely off the ground.
Jessie instinctively struggled until her face turned red. Just as she was about to pass out, Dorian threw her back onto the bed, and she started coughing violently.
"Look at your pathetic state. How can you protect Ethan now? The Wilson Family has already abandoned Ethan, and are you going to abandon him too?" Dorian asked with a cold smile.
"If you dare to harm him, I won't let you go even if I die!" Jessie got up, gritting her teeth.
"I'm looking forward to it, but before that, you'd better give me what I want, or I will kill him first!" Dorian warned coldly.
Jessie was instantly deflated. She knew what Dorian wanted, and after all these years of holding out, she hadn't expected to fail in the end.
"I'll give you two more days. I'll come back the morning after tomorrow. If you keep it up, don't blame me for being ruthless!" Dorian said with a cold smile.
Under Jessie's despairing gaze, he turned away.
