Chapter 164 Sudden Hostility

Initially, Ethan was taken aback by the imposing presence of the two elderly men before him. However, as their gaze shifted towards him, the initial shock dissipated, much like boiling water cooling down.

Despite feeling the intense scrutiny from Mr. Grant and Alfred, Ethan sensed a powerful pressure.

Yet, the gentle energy emitted by his dual yin and yang orbs seemed to envelop him, pushing back against the oppressive aura emanating from the two seniors. "You two youngsters, come closer!" Mr. Grant and Alfred beckoned to them.

Mr. Grant finally smiled and waved at Ethan and Sarah.

Ethan let out a sigh of relief, but noticed Sarah's tense and rigid expression.

He quickly took her hand, bringing a sense of warmth that eased her tension.

It was surprising to Ethan that the Yin and Yang dual beads still had such a powerful effect in critical moments.

This encounter was more about maintaining dominance and momentum, unlike the physical confrontation with Elmer.

Despite the natural air of authority that the Yin and Yang dual beads seemed to bring him, Ethan remained respectful towards the two elders and greeted them.

"I heard from Remington that you removed the bullet fragments from his head," Norman inquired with a smile.

"Yes, it was me who removed the fragments from Remington's skull. He trusted me and had faith in me," Ethan replied confidently.

"You should know that you were only able to do so because Norman agreed to it. Without his approval, you wouldn't have had the chance," Mr. Grant reminded Ethan, glancing at Norman.

"I am also thankful to Mr. Grant for believing in me. I'm glad I didn't disappoint him," Ethan responded.

"Honestly, I was taking a chance back then. Every time one of us old timers passes, we lose a piece of ourselves. If there's even a glimmer of hope, I have to seize it with both hands. You don't need to thank me."

Mr. Grant shook his head and smiled wryly.

Upon hearing this, Ethan once again felt a sense of admiration for Mr. Grant.

"Alright, I'll head back first. We can play chess another time!" Mr. Grant got up and left without turning back. Ethan could see a tinge of disappointment on his face, which puzzled him. He didn't understand what had gone wrong.

"Alfred, don't hold onto things too tightly. Times have changed!" Mr. Grant sighed helplessly as he watched Mr. Grant leave.

However, Mr. Grant didn't respond and quickly disappeared from view. Ethan could sense the bewilderment in Mr. Grant's eyes.

Suddenly, Mr. Grant calmly explained, "When Bennit brought back the news, we discussed whether you should remove the bullet from Remington. Alfred was opposed it, with the others concurring. None supported you, and everyone questioned your capability.

Upon hearing this, Ethan felt a chill. It turned out that the problem was with himself. Alfred seemed to have some inexplicable hostility towards him, and that was definitely not good news!

Ethan understood that there was more to Alfred's previous opposition, despite Mr. Grant's explanation. It appeared that there were hidden power struggles among the older generation's leaders, concealed beneath the facade of harmony that ordinary people perceived.

Glancing at the indifferent Remington, Ethan remained silent.

"Among the few people, I was the only one who agreed to let you try! Luckily, you made it.”

A look of relief appeared on Mr. Grant's face as he nodded towards Ethan.

"I only did what I was supposed to do, Mr. Grant!"

  Ethan sounded polite.

"Cunning...Oh well, that's just Alfred. Don’t take it personally. If you meet him again, remember to be respectful!"

Mr. Grant smiled bitterly, pointing at Ethan and warned.

Mr. Grant held the highest position in the country, surpassing Alfred in status. This allowed Mr. Grant to stand up against the opposition and permit Ethan to treat Remington.

As long as he agreed, the opinions of others didn’t matter.

Mr. Grant's words resonated with Ethan, prompting him to reflect on their deeper significance beyond mere respect for his seniors.

"Norman, I didn't bring Ethan here to listen to your lecture. I knew Alfred would definitely show up, but I didn't expect him to come and leave so quickly!"

Remington's tone carried a hint of dissatisfaction. It was clear that he was not fond of Alfred.

"You guys have been enemies since you were young. Is it really necessary to hold onto that animosity forever? Alfred came here today to intervene, but I had already made my stance clear to him before you showed up! His outburst just now wasn't directed at you, but at me," Mr. Grant said with a tone of sadness and acceptance, shaking his head helplessly.

Ethan couldn't help but feel a twinge in his heart. It seems that Remington and Alfred also had some regrettable past.

"I don't have the time or interest to engage with him. If it weren't for you, this old man would have already kicked the bucket!" Remington dismissively rolled his eyes, unexpectedly acted childish in front of Mr. Grant, which amused Ethan and Sarah.

"Mr. Grant, it's time to take your medicine!" Just then, an elderly man in his sixties, wearing a white coat, walked over from a short distance, reminding Mr. Grant.

"Alas. I'm old now. Taking medicine daily is more punctual than the training we underwent in the army!" Mr. Grant furrowed his brow and sighed.

"This is Mr. Grant's personal health consultant, the renowned pharmacy, Master Gary ," Remington introduced the identity of the elderly man in the white coat to Ethan while Mr. Grant was taking his medicine.

Ethan secretly made a note of this name. He knew that Remington must have a reason for introducing this person to him.

"This medicine is so bitter. I have to take it three times a day, otherwise it won't work!" Finally finishing the medicine, Mr. Grant eased out of a painful state and smiled bitterly at Remington and Ethan.

"Mr. Grant, forgive me for being frank. Every medicine has its side effects, and the same goes for medicine. I'm wondering what requires you to take medicine three times a day?" Ethan asked curiously.

"Hey, what do you mean? Are you saying that I'm poisoning Mr. Grant?" Gary suddenly shouted at Ethan, clearly offended by Ethan's casual remark, as if it had touched a sensitive nerve in him.
