Chapter 512 Frustrated Ethan
"Yo, Angel, is it 'cause of the Requiem Tower that I got in?" Ethan had to hit up the tower spirit again.
"Nah, it's 'cause of me. The restriction doesn't affect me, and since you're my host now, you get the perks too," Angel said, all serious-like.
Ethan couldn't argue with that. If that's how it was, he really did score thanks to her.
Thinking back, he had agreed to help Angel out of the goodness of his heart, not expecting to snag a tower and dodge the restriction.
"Y'all wait out here for me. Can't bring you in right now." After figuring out the deal, Ethan had to apologize to Elmer and the crew. Then, with their jealous eyes on him, he pushed open the door of the Treasure Tower and strolled in.
But once inside, Ethan's grin vanished. He realized he'd been duped 'cause the place was just like any other building—totally empty, not even a chair. Not ready to give up, he climbed up four floors.
The trio outside didn't expect Ethan to come out so fast. In no time, they saw a frustrated Ethan trudging out of the building.
"Man, I feel like I've been played." Ethan gritted his teeth and took a deep breath. Why the heck did a place with nothing need a restriction?
"Is it empty inside?" Dorian's mouth twitched, but he felt a weird sense of relief.
"Does it make you feel better if it's empty?" Ethan raised an eyebrow.
Dorian looked embarrassed.
"Should we still hit up the Archives Tower?" Elmer asked, frowning.
"Yeah, duh," Ethan snorted and stomped towards the Archives Tower.
Just like the Treasure Tower, the restriction at the Archives Tower's entrance didn't faze Ethan but kept Elmer and the others out.
Same story again. Ethan ran up four floors and came out looking bummed. Seeing how quick he was in and out, the trio outside got the hint—the Archives Tower was empty too.
"Now it doesn't matter if we can get in; there's no point," Dorian said, feeling all sorts of ways.
Ethan was even more ticked off. He'd been secretly stoked about the perks from Angel, but now he couldn't be happy at all.
"The huge SA Guild, and apart from the Requiem Tower, we got zilch," Elmer sighed.
"Getting nothing is one thing, but how do we bounce from this place?" Dorian reminded, all serious.
Ethan went quiet. He didn't come here for treasures. He didn't care about getting nothing; he was hunting for clues about Matthew. But so far, apart from the words "SA Guild" being somewhat tied to Matthew, there were no leads.
"Look at it this way. If the Archives Tower was packed with books, wouldn't that mean Matthew had zilch to do with this place?" Elmer, seeing Ethan all bummed out, tried to cheer him up.
Ethan shook his head and gave a bitter smile. "But with nothing here, it doesn't prove my dad took the ancient books."
"What are you talking about? You said your old man swiped the ancient books from the SA Guild?" Asura Bloodhand, clueless about Matthew's situation, asked in surprise.
"When we get back to Tiger Mount, you can pick a couple to read if you want," Ethan shrugged. Apart from the ZF knack, other techniques didn't really catch his eye. The ZF knack alone was enough to keep him busy.
"Seriously? I can?" Asura Bloodhand was stoked.
"Yeah, if you can turn over a new leaf, I don't mind getting on good terms with you. Plus, at Tiger Mount, if you wanna stir up trouble, you'll need Francis's okay first. I'm not worried." Ethan chuckled, thinking Francis had probably already sorted through the ancient books. What they'd see wouldn't be the top-tier stuff; Francis was too sharp for that.
"No problem. If you can help me level up, I'll even join you!" Asura Bloodhand was over the moon. He'd been thinking about just surviving, and now he could not only save his skin but also learn some killer techniques.
"Ethan, shouldn't we first figure out how to get outta here?" Dorian brought the convo back to the main issue. If they couldn't get out, Ethan's promises were just hot air.
"Getting out is a piece of cake. I just didn't expect this trip to be so dull. Feels like we missed something." Ethan looked around, frowning.
"Missed what?" Elmer raised an eyebrow.
"I can't say. Just feels like the huge SA Guild shouldn't have left nothing behind." Ethan shook his head, still clueless.
"If you have a way out, you should have a way in. Why not take your time to study it later?" Dorian suggested.
"I agree. We've been here for three days; it's time to bounce." Elmer pulled out his phone to check the time. Even though there was no signal in this secret realm, the phone's clock should still be right.
"Alright, let's head out first." Ethan nodded and led the crew back to the mountain's base.
"Is the exit where we came in?" Dorian asked, a bit uneasy as they got closer to the base.
"Just stick with me. If I can get out, so can you." Ethan didn't spill the details. The way out was something Angel had clued him in on. There was a spatial node at the mountain's base that needed a specific code to open, like a password lock on a security door.
Angel didn't remember the code herself. When dealing with the souls to get the code in the Requiem Tower, she was ruthless. Among the hundreds of thousands of souls in the Requiem Tower, someone knew how to open the spatial node.
