Chapter 572 Two Old Acquaintances
Ethan was totally in the dark about the Magic Circle 'cause he never ran into it in his everyday life. He didn't give a damn about the intro to the Magic Circle in the ZF knack, or maybe he just never had the time to dive into it. He skimmed it once and then tossed it aside.
Looked like he needed to read every bit of the ZF knack; otherwise, he'd kick himself if he ran into something like this again.
"Can you help me bust this Magic Circle? I wanna go in and check it out," Ethan asked Angel, feeling pretty helpless.
He could use the Sun and Moon Beads to break it, but he didn't wanna go all nuclear before figuring out what this Monastery was about. Didn't wanna mess things up big time.
"Seriously? You can't even break a basic Magic Circle like this?" Angel's voice dripped with disdain.
"I've never messed with Magic Circles. Can you help or not?" Ethan was exasperated, rubbing his nose, feeling super frustrated.
"Find the southeast side of the Monastery, then go from the southwest to the northwest, and you'll find the exit," Angel said, then went silent, clearly not interested in wasting more time on this simple Magic Circle with Ethan.
Annoyed but determined, Ethan tried Angel's method. Soon enough, he found himself inside the Magic Circle, and following Angel's directions, he barely hit any snags and quickly found the exit.
Once he stepped out of the Magic Circle, the scene totally changed. What he saw now was a completely revamped and super fancy Monastery. More importantly, Ethan sensed several presences inside, the strongest just hitting the initial master level, though still kinda suppressed.
"The spiritual energy here is way richer than outside. Is this the Magic Circle's doing? But compared to a secret realm, it's kinda meh, only boosting it by two or three times tops." Ethan felt the energy fluctuations around, hid his own presence, and spread his spiritual sense over the whole Monastery.
Soon, he spotted some familiar faces inside. Turns out, his gut feeling was spot on; the folks in the Monastery were Brian and Tyler, along with three other Half-Step Grandmasters he didn't know. Five people in total, probably the same five Pietro had seen before.
Ethan didn't expect things to line up so perfectly, nor did he expect Tyler to have leveled up to the initial master stage, clearly having used the Vitality Vortex Pill Ethan gave him. But Ethan had no clue how Tyler ended up suppressed here.
"The Great Elder told us to wait here for news, but it's been three days with no word. How long are we supposed to wait?"
"Yeah, and we had to drag this dead weight along. Almost got busted on the way. Would've been easier to just off him right then and there; why all this hassle?"
Two of the Half-Step Grandmasters were griping, looking pretty fed up.
"We can't kill Tyler yet; we might need him to trade for that half piece of Sacred Wood from Ethan," Brian, who was chilling on a cushion, suddenly opened his eyes and reminded them calmly.
Right then, Tyler was chained to one of the hall's pillars with some weird material, totally stuck.
"Ethan and I aren't even tight; we just crossed paths. Why would he trade the Sacred Wood for me? Drop that dumb idea." Tyler sneered, glaring daggers at Brian.
Brian's face darkened, and he walked up to Tyler, smacking him hard across the face.
Tyler took the hit but just glared at Brian with pure rage, like he wanted to tear him apart.
"Did I say you could talk?" Brian chuckled and went on, "Actually, you're right. If it were me, I wouldn't trade the Sacred Wood for a nobody like you! But until we get the Sacred Wood, you might still be useful, so you can't die just yet."
"Just kill me if you got the guts," Tyler gritted his teeth and shouted.
"Don't worry, you'll die, but not now." Brian looked at Tyler's furious face and laughed like a maniac.
"Isn't Ethan just a Half-Step Grandmaster? Why not have the Great Elder handle it and grab the Sacred Wood? He wouldn't stand a chance against a master level. Why all this fuss?" Another Half-Step Grandmaster, who'd been quiet, suddenly asked.
"Just follow the Great Elder's orders. Why ask so many questions? You think you can call the shots for the Great Elder?" Brian frowned, clearly showing a lot of respect and fear for the Great Elder, probably one of his loyal followers.
"Why don't you spill the truth? Ethan's not just some regular guy; you're playing with fire," Tyler suddenly laughed out loud.
A flash of killing intent crossed Brian's eyes, but he didn't hit Tyler again. After calming down, he sneered, "What's there to hide? Ethan's from the Wilson family, so what?"
"That's right, I'm from the Wilson family. Seems like you know me pretty well." At that moment, a calm voice echoed from the hall entrance, making Brian and the others' faces change instantly.
"It's you! No way! How'd you find this place? How'd you sneak in?" Brian's face turned grim as he recognized Ethan.
He'd already seen Ethan's scary combat skills. As a fellow Half-Step Grandmaster, he knew he was no match for Ethan at all.
"You got so many questions. Which one should I answer first?" Ethan sighed, then smiled at Tyler. "We meet again, but I didn't expect to see you like this."
"Sorry you had to see me like this." Tyler's eyes lit up at the sight of Ethan, but he couldn't help feeling a bit ashamed at Ethan's words.
