Chapter 583 The Domineering Decision
Giuseppe was found safe by Angela and brought back to Andrea.
When Ethan got back to the Everglow alone, he got a text from Angela asking if he had wrapped things up. He called her right away.
"Ethan, did you finish what you needed to do?" Angela's voice came through quickly.
"Yeah, it's all sorted. Just got back to the city. Where are you?" Ethan could hear some background noise on Angela's end and got curious.
"Glad to hear it. Come over to Fragrant Garden. Norman and the others are waiting for you." Angela sounded relieved but a bit anxious.
"Got it, I'll be there soon," Ethan said, hung up, and grabbed a cab to Fragrant Garden.
When he got there, Angela drove out to pick him up. Once in the car, Ethan asked, "So, what's going on?"
"I'm not totally sure, but a bunch of people are here, including Andrea. They're all waiting for you in Norman's reception room. I didn't catch much earlier; I was outside. You'll have to figure it out yourself," Angela said, shaking her head helplessly.
Ethan frowned but then shrugged it off. These folks couldn't really do anything to him anyway.
Soon, Ethan strolled into Norman's reception room, spotting several familiar faces. Besides Norman and Remington, everyone he had met yesterday was there.
"Finally, you're here. Have a seat; we've been waiting!" Norman pointed to an empty sofa with a grin as Ethan walked in.
"Let's cut to the chase," Ethan said, standing off to the side.
"Why the rush?" Norman chuckled.
"Ethan, thanks for helping me find Giuseppe," Andrea stood up and said.
"No problem. It was a win-win. Just don't forget what you promised me," Ethan replied bluntly, making Norman and Remington exchange knowing smiles.
The others looked around, surprised at Ethan's straightforwardness with Andrea.
"I remember. Today, with everyone here, I want to announce something. I'm retiring early next term. I'm getting old and probably can't keep up anymore," Andrea said with a bitter smile, shocking everyone.
"Andrea, are you serious? You're only 56, in the prime of your career. Why retire now?" someone asked.
"After what happened with Giuseppe, how can I stay in that position? It's better this way. Someone else can take over just fine without me," Andrea said, shaking his head with a bitter smile.
Ethan didn't see Andrea's bold move coming, announcing his withdrawal from the next election right in front of everyone.
"Andreas, I can't back you this time. You've done a great job, and Remington and I both know you're a good official, but Giuseppe..." Norman sighed, shaking his head.
Ethan frowned, thinking, 'What's the deal here? Did they call me just to hear Andrea's announcement?'
"Is there anything else?" Ethan cut in, getting straight to the point.
Norman got serious. "Giuseppe woke up. He told us what happened that night at the villa, and it has nothing to do with you."
"Does this clear my name?" Ethan rolled his eyes, feeling a mix of frustration and amusement.
"That's not the main issue. Even though Giuseppe is back, Matteo died at the scene, and there's still fallout from that incident. Angela mentioned you've already dealt with the mastermind, is it right?" Norman asked, and everyone turned their attention to Ethan.
Ethan stayed calm. "Yeah, I killed him. If you're looking for the truth, you won't find it. Even if he were alive, you wouldn't catch him."
"Master level?" Norman asked, frowning.
"Late-stage master level from a hidden sect," Ethan added.
He didn't need to explain much. These folks knew what a hidden sect or a late-stage master level meant. If not for the mutual constraints and rules among sects, their power and heritage could topple a country. No amount of money or power could change that reality.
"That's about what I figured. Looks like this matter ends here." Remington sighed.
"Not necessarily." Ethan suddenly smiled.
Everyone's eyes were back on Ethan.
"What are you planning? Hidden sects aren't easy to deal with," Norman's heart sank at Ethan's smile and quickly reminded him.
"True, hidden sects aren't easy to deal with, at least not for you. But for someone else, it might be different," Ethan hinted.
"Are you saying you want to go after the sect behind the mastermind?" Andrea asked, frowning.
"The ML Guild dared to use my wife to threaten me. They no longer need to exist," Ethan said coldly, as if discussing something trivial and inevitable.
Everyone was stunned by Ethan's bold statement, especially Angela, who looked at him in surprise. She thought, 'Is he so angry that he wants to take on a hidden sect just because they kidnapped me?'
