Chapter 147 No Conditions
The layout of Baytown still needed some time to develop, and Ethan planned to make the storm even more intense. Therefore, he wouldn't spend too much energy on it until the situation was under control.
In his plan, he had to at least control one-third of Baytown's coal market. Only then could this card become his invisible amulet, adding weight to his presence.
Furthermore, because of Alexander's presence, the secrecy of Ethan's trip to Baytown was fully guaranteed. Whether it was the public or private systems, information about Ethan and Sarah, including all surveillance footage, was modified by him to ensure that nothing went wrong.
After a half-day journey, Ethan and Sarah finally returned to the Harris family mansion in Novaria at noon.
Upon arriving at the gates of the Harris family mansion, Ethan saw a group of soldiers and several military vehicles waiting outside. The scene was quite grand.
"Bennit's afraid that no one will know he came to the Harris family."
Seeing this situation, Ethan couldn't help but laugh.
"Isn't this what you and Grandpa wanted? Why do you seem unsatisfied? There's something underlying in your words."
However, Sarah didn't think as deeply as Ethan did and asked in confusion, "What do you think he's signaling to the outside world? He's just putting on a show. He wants to let everyone know that he is representing the military this time and is not affiliated with the Walker family. If he came alone and without much fanfare to the Harris family, your grandpa would probably wake up from a dream with a smile!"
Ethan explained patiently to help Sarah understand the complexity of the situation. Despite her background in the Harris family, she was actually just a naive young girl who had very little exposure to struggles and intrigues.
Sarah pouted, feeling dissatisfied.
"Let's go in and not keep him waiting!" Ethan smiled and led Sarah into the villa.
As they entered the living room, they saw Clarence and Bennit coming down the stairs. Obviously, they had also heard the commotion of Ethan and Sarah's return.
"Grandpa, we're back!" Sarah naturally linked her arm with Ethan's and greeted Clarence with a happy smile on her face.
Clarence sized up the two of them, his smile growing more apparent.
"Didn't expect to see you so soon, Bennit! Did you come to visit the Harris family today?" Ethan asked with a smile.
Bennit was planning to exchange a few polite words with Ethan, but his words were choked back by Ethan's remark.
'Do you really not know why I came to the Harris family?' Bennit thought.
Seeing the slight twitching of Bennit's mouth, Clarence calmly spoke, "Bennit, my future son-in-law likes to joke, don't mind him!"
"Ethan, Bennit came for Remington!" Clarence reminded Ethan.
"Oh, what's the situation with Remington now?" Ethan knew enough not to push too far. If he made Bennit lose face, it could backfire. So, he frowned and asked.
"As you mentioned, my father fell into a coma yesterday. When we went to wake him up in the morning, we found that he had already lost consciousness! Francis has treated him, and his condition is temporarily stable. However, the bullet fragment is pressing on his nerves. If it isn't addressed in time, it's unlikely that he will wake up again!" Bennit explained, his face looking grim.
There was actually something he didn't say, but Ethan understood it well.
"If it can't be dealt with in time, even if the coma state lasts for a few months, it will definitely be over!" asked Ethan with raised eyebrows.
"What does Bennit mean by coming here today?" Clarence explained for Bennit, resolving a lot of his embarrassment.
"So, does Bennit no longer suspect me of having ulterior motives and believe in my abilities?" Ethan stared at Bennit with a smile.
Bennit took a deep breath and nodded slowly. "Ethan, perhaps my previous actions made you unhappy, but from my perspective, I don't think I did anything wrong. I'm here today representing the military, as well as myself, hoping you can help me save my father. You can make any demands; as long as we can fulfill them, we will."
"Oh? How about Bennit helping me get rid of the Wilson family?" Ethan stared at Bennit with a sly smile.
Even Clarence and Sarah's, the grandfather and granddaughter, expressions turned grim upon hearing this, as they didn't expect Ethan to bring up such a sensitive topic in front of Bennit.
Bennit's face instantly darkened. "Ethan, don't joke about this anymore; it's not funny at all."
"I'm not joking because besides dealing with the Wilson family, I can handle everything else on my own for now; there's really no need for your help, Bennit. If we don't talk about dealing with the Wilson family, what's the point of me making demands?" Ethan asked seriously.
"Of course, it's meaningful; neither the Walker family nor the military will accept favors for nothing, especially when it's a matter of life and death! Or maybe I can give you a large sum of money, five million, is that enough... hmm... ten million!" Bennit furrowed his brow tightly, actually starting to negotiate and resorting to a financial offensive.
"Or you can ask Grandpa if he received any consultation fee when I detoxified him. My medical skills are not that cheap. Even if I do charge, it would be a price you definitely can't afford! In my opinion, you're the one who's more like a joke!"
Ethan chuckled, seemingly with a hidden smirk on his face.
The atmosphere instantly became tense as Ethan and Bennit locked eyes, with a clear sense of confrontation. Clarence and Sarah looked at each other, unsure of what to do.
However, neither Ethan nor Bennit spoke again. This was their battle, and it was not appropriate for anyone else to intervene.
"So, you're not planning on helping us?" Bennit narrowed his eyes and asked in a deep voice. If Ethan dared to refuse, he would have no choice but to bring Ethan back to Remington, even if it meant pointing a gun at him.
"Of course, I'll help. Since Bennit personally came to ask, how could a commoner like me refuse? Let's go; let's not waste any more time. Let's cure Remington as soon as possible so that everyone can feel at ease!" Ethan suddenly turned around and walked towards the door.
"Wait... let's discuss your conditions first!" Bennit immediately stopped Ethan. He didn't believe that Ethan would help them out of the kindness of his heart.
"No conditions. I won't ask for anything considering your filial piety and because Remington is still a good person. As a general, aren't you afraid of being laughed at for hesitating at a time like this?
Hurry up and go!" Ethan stood outside the door, urging impatiently in a dissatisfied tone.
