Wasn't it said that Aubrey and Hestia were going to treat me to a meal to thank me for saving Margare's life?
Why did this conversation feel more and more off?
"Did you misunderstand?" Ethan quickly tried to explain, but was interrupted by Margare!
"Bonnie and Ethan have been together for a long time. I even saw them kissing in the car last time." Margare's words instantly made Ethan's face darken!
To blatantly make up lies in front of everyone, she really had the nerve. This was outright framing!
"It seems you two have a good relationship, so I can rest assured. I'm very open-minded. As long as you treat Bonnie well, we don't care about the other details. After all, I've been through this and I understand!" Aubrey laughed heartily as he spoke.
Bonnie was dumbfounded. She had texted Margare to help her get closer to Ethan, but she didn't expect her to use this tactic!
Not to mention Ethan, even Bonnie was caught off guard, her face turning red all the way to her neck!
"Mr. Peterson, you really misunderstood. Bonnie and I are just friends!" Ethan shook his head with a bitter smile. He wasn't really angry, just treating it as a farce. As long as he clarified things, it would be fine!
Aubrey was stunned, staring at Ethan, then looking at Bonnie and Margare, unable to speak for a long time!
"I don't know what Margare told you, but Bonnie and I are just friends. If you don't believe me, you can ask her!" Ethan pointed at Bonnie and explained to Aubrey again.
"Ethan is just nervous because it's his first time here. He must be shy!" Margare didn't expect Ethan to be so firm and tried to salvage the situation.
"Bonnie, what's going on?" Aubrey was confused and asked Bonnie, the person involved.
Obviously, he wanted to hear Bonnie's explanation, as she was the one closest to him in this matter!
Bonnie felt stuck between a rock and a hard place. No matter what she said, it didn't feel right!
If she admitted she had no relationship with Ethan, everything would end, but she wasn't willing to give up!
But if she didn't admit it, what if Ethan got angry? That would make things worse!
Bonnie opened her mouth but couldn't say a word!
"Sorry to interrupt, but I think there was a miscommunication. You should talk it out among yourselves. I'll take my leave." Ethan didn't want to get involved any further. He stood up, looked at Aubrey helplessly, and turned to leave.
"What's going on? Ethan is leaving without even eating!" Hestia heard the commotion and rushed out of the kitchen.
"Ethan, how can you do this?" Margare was determined to stick to her story, but she didn't realize what kind of person Ethan was. Her little tricks meant nothing to him!
"Enough!"
At this moment, Bonnie suddenly stood up and shouted at Margare, "He doesn't even like me. What's the point of saying all this?"
Unexpectedly, Bonnie was the first to explode. After saying this, she looked deeply at Ethan, her eyes instantly reddening.
Ethan was stunned. Before he could say anything, Bonnie pushed him aside, opened the door, and ran out crying!
"Ethan, Bonnie really likes you. Go after her!" Margare anxiously reminded Ethan.
Ethan, feeling awkward, looked at Margare, then at the stunned Aubrey and Hestia, and reluctantly chased after Bonnie!
This turn of events was completely unexpected for him!
"Explain to me, what's going on?" Aubrey and Hestia, after exchanging glances, turned to Margare with questioning looks.
Margare felt guilty. After receiving Bonnie's text, she rushed from school to the airport and told Aubrey and Hestia that Bonnie was bringing her boyfriend for lunch.
Now that the lie was exposed and both involved parties had run off, how could she explain herself?
Ignoring Margare, who was being interrogated by Aubrey and Hestia, Ethan had already caught up with the crying Bonnie in the community garden.
Seeing her squatting on the grass, crying, Ethan suddenly felt a pang of heartache.
After all, there was nothing wrong with liking someone; it was just that Bonnie chose to like him, and he couldn't reciprocate.
Walking up to Bonnie, Ethan didn't say anything, just quietly stayed by her side, waiting for her sobs to subside.
Only when her sobs gradually ceased did Ethan softly ask. "Feeling better?"
"Why did you come after me? Do I look ridiculous like this?" Bonnie, still squatting with her head buried in her knees, asked.
"Actually, liking someone isn't ridiculous." Ethan reminded her seriously.
Hearing this, Bonnie's body trembled. After a moment of silence, she slowly turned her tearful eyes to Ethan.
"But feelings aren't just about one-sided effort; it's about mutual giving. You've been to Novaria and seen my family's situation. I'm not worth your genuine affection!" Ethan explained with a bitter smile.
"That's just what you think. It's your self-righteousness!" Bonnie retorted bluntly.
Ethan was speechless. He didn't expect her to be so aggressive even in this situation!
If he only used that excuse, it wouldn't convince Bonnie or counter her argument.
"Then consider me self-righteous. Do you really like someone self-righteous?" Ethan reluctantly accepted the label!
If his self-righteousness could make her give up on being with him, so be it!
"You're not just self-righteous; you're also a coward!" Bonnie immediately followed up with another sharp remark!
