Chapter 387 Trying His Luck
Ethan figured Norman would ask about this. Angela sure knew how to stir up trouble!
"I want answers too. Angela's being ridiculous. She vanished right after we landed. Didn't she tell you anything?" Ethan played the victim and complained.
"She just texted saying she won't partner with you and will work alone. That's why I called to check on you," Norman explained, sounding helpless.
"I have no idea! She's being totally unreasonable. You shouldn't have paired me with a woman this time. Couldn't you find a suitable guy?" Ethan couldn't admit he had annoyed Angela by being too affectionate.
Norman went silent on the other end.
"Norman, what's the deal with the task? If she doesn't need me, I'll book a flight home tomorrow!" Ethan asked after a pause.
"Don't come back yet. I'll discuss the task with Remington. Just wait for my update," Norman sighed and hung up.
Listening to the dial tone, Ethan frowned. He was annoyed with Angela but also felt a bit stuck.
Since Norman didn't want him to return, he had to stay in Norway a few more days.
"So, when are you heading back to Vexa?" Alice asked cautiously as Ethan put away his phone.
"Not going back for now. How about we take a drive and look around?" Ethan suggested.
"Sure, it's rare for us to have time alone. For these few days, you're all mine!" Alice was thrilled and pulled Ethan to the parking lot. They picked a golden car and got in.
Ethan drove to a local street.
"Why here in Norway?" Alice asked, puzzled. She thought Ethan just wanted a stroll.
Ethan brushed off her question, pulled Alice out of the car, and started wandering the street.
Alice didn't get it but didn't push. As long as she was with Ethan, the place didn't matter.
Ethan kept an eye on the street numbers until he stopped in front of a tea house.
"I felt like having some tea. Let's go in!" After glancing at the five-story building across the street, Ethan pulled Alice into the tea house.
A young girl led them to a private room on the second floor. They ordered tea and watched the street through the window.
According to Wade's info, he was a professor at a university in Norway and lived in one of the apartments in the building across the street.
Wade was an expert in aerodynamics, and his recent work on supersonic missile thrust tech had made him a target.
Since entering the tea house, Ethan had noticed many suspicious figures, especially near Wade's place.
"I feel like you're not here just for tea. What are you looking for?" Alice asked, seeing Ethan constantly scanning the area.
"Looking for Angela and the target," Ethan admitted.
"Do you think she'll show up here?" Alice was surprised.
"Not sure. The target should be hiding by now. I'm just trying my luck," Ethan explained.
He wasn't lying. He hadn't seen Angela or Wade, but the atmosphere felt off.
The presence of so many shady figures suggested they were waiting for the target to return.
If Wade came back, it would be for a compelling reason.
If Angela had met Wade, she wouldn't let him take the risk. So, it would be her or someone else taking the risk.
"Are you still worried about Angela and planning to help her?" Alice asked, eyeing Ethan suspiciously.
"I'm worried Angela will mess up the task, causing bigger problems. Do you think they want me to stay here for no reason? It's to handle any potential issues!" Ethan said, exasperated.
Alice, still skeptical, asked, "Angela may have a bad temper, but she's beautiful. Don't you have any feelings for her?"
"No! I can barely handle you guys at home!" Ethan rolled his eyes.
"Do you need my help? Maybe my dad can help find her," Alice suggested hesitantly.
"Forget it. The fewer people involved, the better. I don't want to drag your family into this. Your dad still needs to stay in Norway," Ethan said. He had thought about asking Eric for help but didn't want to risk it.
Though they didn't get along well on the surface, they wouldn't harm each other, especially with Alice in the middle.
"Searching aimlessly won't be effective. How long do you plan to keep looking?" Alice asked, frustrated.
She had hoped to spend quality time with Ethan, but his mind was on the task.
"Let's wait and see. As long as I try my best, I can give them an explanation," Ethan said noncommittally.
Hearing this, Alice could only patiently stay with Ethan in the tea house.
Luckily, the tea house had snacks and pastries, so Alice could feed herself. They sat in the private room for hours, chatting on and off, until the sun began to set.
As night fell, the place got even busier.
