Chapter 510 The Shrinkable Pagoda
Ethan was once again outsmarted by this kinda 'goofy' girl. But after a moment of being totally speechless, he seemed to get it. If he’d been stuck in this tower for who knows how long, that kind of loneliness would’ve probably wiped out all his memories too.
Lucky for him, this girl could still chat with him normally. But looking at the situation, he had no clue how to get her out of the tower, and he couldn’t get in himself.
“Do you wanna leave here? Can you get out of the tower on your own?” Ethan asked, testing the waters.
“Nope, I can’t leave this tower, or I’ll just vanish.” The girl shook her head at that.
“What do you mean by vanish?” Ethan asked, even more curious now.
“I remember now, I need to find my body to get my memory back,” The girl suddenly recalled and blurted out.
“Find your body and memory? You mean you don’t have a body now, so what are you?” Ethan was floored and didn’t know how to feel.
“I’m a soul. I just know someone yanked my soul out of my body and stuck me here to guard the tower. But I can’t remember the details,” The girl thought hard for a bit, then pouted and complained.
No wonder this girl looked like a see-through person; she wasn’t even real.
“Then you just said you wanted me to take you away, but if you leave the tower, you’ll disappear. How can I help you?” Ethan asked again.
“Simple, I won’t leave the tower, but you can take me away,” The girl said seriously.
“You won’t leave the tower, so how can I take you away?” Ethan thought her idea was totally out there.
“You take the tower away, and then you’ll take me away,” The girl reminded him with a look of annoyance.
“Take the tower away? Are you kidding? How can I take such a big tower away?” Ethan was blown away by this.
“You think the tower is big? Then I’ll make it smaller.” The girl tilted her head, thinking for a moment, like she had a solution.
At this moment, Dorian and the other two, who were still hanging back behind Ethan, saw something miraculous and couldn’t believe their eyes.
They watched the tower shrink at a crazy speed until it was a tiny little tower, less than 4 inches tall. The spot where the tower had been was now empty, like the Requiem Tower had never been there.
“Did you see that?” Dorian rubbed his eyes, confirming that the huge tower had turned into a finger-sized trinket, and he was totally confused.
“Yeah, what just happened?” Elmer and Asura Bloodhand also widened their eyes in shock.
Ethan suddenly opened his eyes, staring at the small tower in front of him, his jaw dropping in surprise, unable to close for a long time.
“Isn’t this too crazy? Can the tower really shrink?” Ethan felt his whole worldview shattering. It was hard to explain this with science.
Well, since stuff like secret realms and souls could exist, maybe a shrinking tower wasn’t that far-fetched.
“Of course, it can shrink. I’m now the tower spirit of this tower, and the tower is like a part of me. Now you can take me away, right?” The girl’s playful voice echoed in Ethan’s mind again.
Ethan, with a weird expression, put the Sun and Moon Beads back into the Sea of Qi, then got up and walked to the small tower, bending down to pick it up.
But the next second, something that totally blew Ethan's mind happened. He found out he couldn't lift this tiny thing that looked no bigger than his palm.
"What are you doing?" Seeing Ethan struggling with the small tower, Elmer and the others couldn't help but gather around.
"Try it, see if you can lift it," Ethan said to Elmer.
Elmer looked at the shrunken Requiem Tower, hesitated for a moment, and then reached out to grab it. But, just like Ethan, no matter how hard he tried, the tower didn't budge an inch, like it weighed a ton.
"We haven't asked you yet, why did this tower suddenly become so small? Did you do it?" Dorian asked Ethan suspiciously.
"Sort of, but this thing is so heavy, we probably can't take it away," Ethan said.
"I forgot to sign a contract with you. Without a contract, you can't move the Requiem Tower." The girl's innocent voice echoed in Ethan's mind again.
"Alright, stop trying. Let me do it," Ethan called back Elmer, who was still struggling, and then, under their watchful eyes, tried to pick up the small tower again.
This time, Ethan easily held the small tower in his hand and lifted it from the ground.
"Finally succeeded." Ethan let out a long breath. Just now, he had established a contract with the girl, a soul contract. He didn't get how it worked; he just recited a few incantations as the girl instructed and opened his mind, and then he inexplicably established a connection with the tower.
"You actually picked it up!" Elmer looked at the small tower in Ethan's hand, his eyes wide like he’d seen a ghost.
"Did you two just put on a show?" Dorian asked suspiciously.
"Why don't you try?" Ethan handed the small tower directly to Dorian.
"Bring it on!" Dorian didn't believe it, but when he tried to take the small tower from Ethan's hand, his face turned grim. No matter how hard he tried, the small tower didn't move an inch, like it was glued to Ethan's hand.
Even if it was glued to Ethan's hand, it shouldn't be this hard. Dorian could lift Ethan with one finger, but this tower was just too weird.
"What's going on? Does this tower recognize you and only let you hold it?" Elmer suddenly asked.
"Something like that." Ethan didn't explain the girl's situation to them. Talking about souls would be like telling them he had seen a ghost. Besides, Ethan himself didn't really get what was going on.
"I get it. This tower must be a magical artifact and has recognized you as its owner," Elmer seemed to understand something and exclaimed with envy.
"A magical artifact?" Dorian and Asura Bloodhand also exclaimed.
"There are only three magical artifacts in the entire Celestia Vale: the Celestia Vale Mirror, the Divine Pod, and the Souls Banner! You actually got a magical artifact here," Dorian looked at the small tower in Ethan's hand with envy.
"Is this Requiem Tower a magical artifact?" Ethan had a strange look on his face. If this was a magical artifact, it didn't seem particularly special.
"Requiem Tower is not a magical artifact!" The girl's voice sounded a bit annoyed.
"Then what is it?" Ethan asked.
"Requiem Tower is a spiritual artifact."
"And what is a spiritual artifact?"
"It's a higher existence than a magical artifact. How can you be so dumb?"
Ethan's eyes widened. He was actually being looked down upon by this girl who didn't even know who she was.
