Chapter 123 A Colossal Misunderstanding
Locked in a mutual gaze, Sarah could feel the warmth of Ethan's breath on her face; the heat from his body seemed to radiate through his clothes and into her, sending a shiver of weakness through her limbs that seemingly sapped her strength.
"Ethan... snap out of it... I'm not Chloe, I'm Sarah!" She said, her voice laced with a mix of emotions as she attempted to sober up the obviously inebriated man.
Her words had barely left her lips when Ethan's pressed firmly against them, sealing the kiss. His eyes remained closed, but Sarah's shot wide open in shock!
After her initial astonishment, Sarah's mind went blank. She was unsure of how to react and found herself responding mechanically to Ethan's kiss.
However, no sooner had the kiss begun when murmurs of 'Chloe' began to escape Ethan's lips, making Sarah's body tense up in an instant.
"Let go of me, I'm not Chloe!" She exclaimed.
Summoning strength from deep within, Sarah delivered a slap across Ethan's cheek. Both of them stood there, stunned and lost for words.
"Heh... good slap... I was too naive! Just an outcast from the Wilson family, how could I ever be worthy of you, the illustrious Miss Miller from the Miller family? You're about to get engaged... what am I to you? I remember now... you said we were done...huh... I wish you well, blessings to you and that man!"
Ethan suddenly burst into laughter, still seemingly delirious with a tinge of madness.
Upon hearing this, Sarah's heart clenched painfully.
He knew!
Chloe had told him everything, and even coldly initiated their breakup!
"Ethan, get a grip... So, what if Chloe left? Are you saying you can't live without her? She's not the only woman in the world. I'll be here for you. Am I, Sarah, not good enough for you?" She pleaded, suddenly wrapping her arms around him and shaking him vigorously as if trying to awaken him from his stupor.
The violent shaking only worsened Ethan's throbbing headache, causing his head to sway uncontrollably.
At that moment, the bead on Ethan's chest began to tremble violently, and without warning, a chilling energy surged into his body and began to spread throughout.
An overwhelming sense of comfort washed over Ethan, and in an instant, he quieted down, his body collapsing onto Sarah's, tumbling together onto the plush expanse of the bed.
"So hot... yet so cool... Chloe... can I have you? I want you..."
Ethan's gaze fixed on the lovely face mere inches from his, mistaking Sarah for Chloe.
Sarah gently cupped Ethan's determined face with her hands, her eyes shimmering with a newfound resolve, "Yes... if you want me... I'm yours!"
With that, Ethan met her lips with an unapologetic kiss, and Sarah matched his passion with equal fervor.
As they discarded layers, on the brink of the final step, Ethan's mind suddenly cleared like a fog had lifted in his mind!
The feverishness vanished as if the tide had receded, entirely replaced by a chilling sensation!
In that moment, Ethan finally recognized the woman beneath him, and he froze in place.
"Sarah... why is it you? I'm sorry... I had too much to drink... I didn't realize it was you... It wasn't intentional!"
Startled back to reality, Ethan sprung from Sarah's body as if by reflex.
Sarah was equally shocked by Ethan's abrupt lucidity, taking a few seconds to comprehend their situation before blushingly grabbing the covers and wrapping herself in them.
"You were... mistaking me for Chloe..." Sarah's voice was a soft whisper.
"You could have resisted, even hit me... It's all my fault... Blame me!"
Ethan was the epitome of awkwardness, bewildered by his own sudden sobriety and thinking maybe staying muddled would have spared them both the embarrassment.
Hurriedly putting on his clothes, Ethan felt something amiss within him.
He quickly realized what was happening.
That mysterious aura – it had to be causing this mischief!
Could it also have sobering effects?
"Ethan... where are you going?"
Noticing Ethan heading toward the door, Sarah quickly called from the bed.
"I need to step out; you get dressed first. Whatever happened today is on me. Whatever you need to do to feel okay about this, just say it."
Without another word, Ethan left the room, closing the door behind him.
In the suite's living room, the two bodyguards exchanged surprised glances as Ethan strolled out as if nothing had happened; their expressions awash with disbelief.
Ethan desperately wished he could vanish into thin air, regretting his decision to step out of the room now that he had two unexpected witnesses to his and Sarah's scandalous affair.
Thankfully, Sarah emerged shortly after, impeccably dressed but with rosy cheeks and a shy demeanor that only added to the bodyguards' incredulity.
"Guys, take off for now. Mr. Wilson and I need to have a talk!" Sarah commanded the bodyguards.
It was clear that with them around, she felt just as uncomfortable as Ethan did.
In fact, the bodyguards were the most ill at ease, and upon hearing Sarah's words, they seized the opportunity to hastily make their retreat from the suite as if granted a pardon.
"Look...what can I do to make it up to you? Name your price, and I'll do whatever is in my power," Ethan offered earnestly.
Sarah pouted and cozied up next to Ethan on the couch, "Does that mean you'll agree to anything I ask?"
"As long as it's within my power! Of course...I won't do anything that goes against my morals or conscience," Ethan replied, nodding with sincerity.
"Fine, starting today, you're going to be my boyfriend! That doesn't violate any morals or conscience, does it?" Sarah said seriously, dropping a bombshell that left Ethan speechless.
"Boyfriend? Are you kidding me?" Ethan leaped to his feet, a mix of shock and disbelief on his face.
"I'm not joking! You just said yourself that you'd agree to anything within your power. I believe any man is capable of it. You're single again—there's no moral or conscience dilemma. Are you planning to back out on your word?" Sarah stood her ground and placed her hands on her hips, challenging him.
"Can't we agree to something else? I really don't want to get into another relationship," Ethan said, feeling the impulse to slap himself for putting himself into a corner.
Had he completely forgotten that this girl had always had her sights set on him?
"No deal! You've seen all of me already. You think you can just walk away without responsibility? If you refuse, I'll tell my granddad everything that just happened," Sarah threatened, her eyes gleaming with mischief.
Ethan was taken aback, followed by a feeling of bemused disbelief. With an awkward chuckle, he quizzed, "Aren't you Chloe's bestie? Aren't you worried she'll find out? Plus, I'm the black sheep of the Wilson family; even your granddad's keeping me at arm's length. Aren't you concerned? And let's face it, there's no chance for us, right?"
