Chapter 389 Hard Drive

Ethan and Angela were the ones kissing in the hallway.

When Angela walked in alone, Ethan knew something was up. He figured those agents were after her, so he followed.

On the third floor, he caught up with her, pinned her against the wall, and then they heard agents rushing up the stairs.

Angela stopped struggling when she saw Ethan. She had to play along, even giving her first kiss and pretending to be into it to fool the agents.

The agents bought it, thanks to Ethan's convincing act.

"Come on, I did that to save you. You think I enjoyed it? You took advantage of me!" Ethan snapped, glaring at her.

"You!" Angela fumed and kneed him in the groin.

"Why are you being so unreasonable?" Ethan didn't expect her reaction. He had to restrain her completely.

Angela wasn't as skilled or fast as Ethan, so he quickly immobilized her.

"Let go of me!" she ordered, glaring at him.

"I will, but don't bite the hand that feeds you. We need to get out of here before those guys come back!" Ethan said seriously before letting her go.

Angela huffed but didn't fight back. She stormed into the building.

Ethan, looking frustrated, followed her. They left the building and disappeared into a nearby alley.

Once they were alone, Angela stopped and asked, "Why are you here?"

"You think I'm dumb? I followed your clues and waited for you. If it weren't for Norman, I wouldn't care about you!" Ethan retorted.

"I don't need your help. You can leave now!" Angela snapped.

"You're so stubborn! Without me, you'd be caught by now!" Ethan was getting angry.

"Even if I die, it's none of your business. I don't need you pretending to be a hero! I have a mission and no time for your nonsense. Leave now!" Angela said, turning away.

"Wait! Why are you here? Can't you see the agents waiting to trap you?" Ethan grabbed her wrist and asked quietly.

"Let go! You're not my partner anymore. I don't owe you an explanation! Keep interfering, and I'll kick your ass!" Angela glared at him.

"Really?" Ethan laughed out of anger, tightened his grip, and challenged, "I'd like to see you try."

Anger flashed in Angela's eyes, and she swung her fist at him.

Ethan easily blocked it and held both her hands.

"With skills like that, you dare to talk big?" Ethan raised an eyebrow and taunted.

"Let go of me!" Angela struggled, but she couldn't break free without hurting herself.

"Alright, enough. If you don't want to mess up the mission, cooperate. I don't want to clean up your mess or bring back your ashes," Ethan said, exasperated.

Angela glared at him for a few seconds, then looked away, realizing she couldn't win.

Ethan slowly let her go. She didn't try anything else, probably knowing she couldn't beat him.

"Where's Wade?" Ethan asked after a pause.

"He's safe. You don't need to worry," Angela snapped, still sulking.

"Okay, so you've seen him and he's settled. But why risk coming back here now?" Ethan pressed.

Angela stared at him but stayed silent.

"If you want to succeed, you should work with me. I can help you finish the job more efficiently and safely. Even if I walked into Wade's place openly, those agents couldn't touch me," Ethan reasoned.

"There's a hard drive in his house with key data from his research. We need to get it," Angela finally admitted.

"Did Wade tell you where it is?" Ethan asked, raising an eyebrow.

"It's in the ceiling of his bathroom," Angela said, making Ethan speechless.

Hiding something there seemed like a movie cliché, but the agents hadn't found it yet.

Maybe the agents didn't check thoroughly, or they already found it and were waiting for Wade to come back for it.

Ethan figured it was the latter. After Wade disappeared, the agents probably tore the place apart.

"I bet the hard drive's gone. If you go in, you'll get caught," Ethan warned.

"As long as there's hope, I have to try! If you're scared, don't join. I can do it alone," Angela said stubbornly.

"I'm just preparing you for failure. I'm not scared. I could've taken out those agents, but it would've caused too much noise. I prefer to keep a low profile," Ethan reminded her.

"Cut the crap. Are you going or not?" Angela asked impatiently.

"I'm going. Wait here. I'll be back in five minutes. You'll see if I'm right," Ethan said, ready to move.

"Wait, take this. Record everything," Angela said, handing him a mini camera.

"Is this necessary?" Ethan asked, looking at the device.

"I don't trust you," Angela said bluntly.

Ethan stared at her for a few seconds, then nodded. "You're blind."

Without waiting for her response, he disappeared into the alley.
