"Do you really want me to become the heir? If I did, Brady would definitely trap me in a cage!” Ethan reminded while slightly smiling.
“What I mean is, you worked so hard to save Cloud Group. Without you, it wouldn't have developed to where it is today! Are you really willing to let go just like this?” Jayden asked with a bitter smile.
“Let Brady enjoy his temporary victory. Not just anyone can snatch my belongings, and that includes him! I’ll take Cloud Group back, and I’ll make it rise even higher than before,” Ethan confidently said, blinking at Jayden as if what happened just now didn’t affect him at all.
Jayden was surprised, his intuition telling him that things weren't as simple as they appeared. Ethan seemed to have expected this to happen and had a backup plan.
Just as he was about to ask, Ethan's phone suddenly rang.
It was Chloe. Why was this girl calling again?
Seeing the caller, Ethan paused for a moment before answering.
“Ethan, are you alright?” Chloe's concerned voice immediately came through the phone.
“What could be wrong with me? Why are you asking?” he replied with a smile.
“I saw the news about you...“ she paused without continuing her sentence.
Ethan’s eyes narrowed upon hearing that. He didn’t expect Brady, that old bastard, to act so quickly and announce it to the news!
“That's right, I'm no longer Cloud Group’s chairman, and you could even call me a vagrant! Are you still willing to be friends with me?” Ethan asked with a carefree smile.
“What are you talking about? Do you think I only befriended you for your status?” Chloe couldn't help but sulk, but then grinned and continued, “But judging from your current state, you seem fine. I’m glad!”
“Thank you for your concern,” Ethan felt somewhat touched. Not everyone would proactively call and care about you when you're down and out.
“We're friends now, so there’s no need to be so distant. By the way, what’s your next plan?“ Chloe changed the topic.
“I haven't thought about it yet, but at least I’m sure I won't starve!” Ethan replied with a laugh.
She suddenly invited him, “How about coming to my company? I know it's small and you might not be impressed, but at least you have a temporary place. Of course, I won’t stop you if you get better opportunities,”
“Just because you know about my situation doesn't mean you have to do this for me. Thank you for the offer!” Ethan said sincerely.
“You're welcome, buddy!” she replied warmly.
He reminded her with a serious tone, “Are you sure you want to help me at a time like this? My enemies are not easy to deal with.“
She bluntly replied, “We've already established that we’re friends, no? Why worry about burdening me anymore? Besides, if it weren't for your help, Zachary would’ve ruined my small company a long time ago!”
Ethan was shortly confused. Her attitude and actions at this moment reminded him of Sharon, who once helped him when he was at his lowest.
The two women's figures suddenly overlapped at this moment, giving him a sense of déjà vu and an inexplicable heartache.
“Why are you so quiet? I'm not helping just you, but also myself. During Cloud Group’s decline, you turned the tables and brought the company success. With you around, my small company might become the next Cloud Group,” Chloe said, seemingly concerned about Ethan's uneasiness.
“No, it's just that I haven't made up my mind yet. I'll get back to you once I've thought it through,“ Ethan explained with a wry smile.
If possible, he didn't want to involve Chloe in his matters. After all, the Wilson family wasn’t easy to deal with. One wrong move could lead to his own downfall, and he couldn’t guarantee her safety.
She compromised and invited him again, “Alright, I'll give you some time to think. Once you’ve decided, feel free to find me. But before that, as a friend, I want to invite you for some coffee. You wouldn't refuse, would you?“
“Coffee? If you don't mind me bringing a friend, I would be delighted!” Ethan raised an eyebrow, turning his head to look at Jayden as he smiled.
Considering the circumstances and knowing she would likely persuade him to go to her place after they meet, he couldn't refuse Chloe's goodwill anymore.
“No problem, bring your friend along!” She gave him a coffee drop’s address.
Just as Chloe ended the call, an old man’s voice came from behind her, “Miss, Madam says you have a maximum of three more months. She hopes you can return sooner. Why are you still wasting time in Novaria?”
“I remember we made an agreement with the family before. They promised to not interfere with my life for two years. When the time is up, I will obediently return to accept their arrangements. Now, are you telling me that you won't even give me these last three months?” Chloe looked at the old man behind her. Her face showed a hint of refusal, but her eyes were filled with deep helplessness.
“Miss, please don't misunderstand. Madam heard about the incident where you were almost humiliated a few days ago, which infuriated her. She's just worried about your safety and seeks your return as soon as possible. If you want to stay in Novaria, I can only stay with you to ensure your safety!” The old man hastily explained, his tone leaving no room for negotiation.
“What's the difference between this and monitoring me?“ Chloe angrily questioned.
“I apologize, Miss, but this is Madam's bottom line. She doesn’t want anything similar happening again. However, please rest assured as I’ll only come when you’re in danger. I won’t interfere with your life!” he solemnly assured her.
Chloe could only sigh and fall silent. Even though she was the Miller family’s most cherished daughter, she couldn't help but feel a deep sense of powerlessness.
Ten minutes later, Ethan and Jayden arrived at the café. They saw Chloe waiting for them at a booth on the second floor.
“So, the friend you mentioned turns out to be Mr. Wilson!” she exclaimed in surprise upon seeing them together.
“Miss Miller must be joking. I’m longer with Cloud Group, so I don't deserve the title Mr. Wilson anymore. You can just call me Jayden.” Jayden replied with a bitter smile, shaking his head.
Chloe was even more astonished. She only knew that Ethan had left Cloud Group, but she never expected Jayden to leave as well!
At that moment, Tim couldn't believe that right after leaving the company, Ethan was already having coffee with a beautiful woman. This angered him.
“Bring everyone along. This time, I’ll make sure Ethan has nowhere to hide!” Tim immediately commanded his bodyguard without hesitation.
“But Sir, Mike hasn't arrived yet! Shouldn’t we wait a bit longer?” The bodyguard hesitantly suggested.
“Who’s your Young Master right now? I can't wait for any longer! If you don't want to be punished, go and kill Ethan for me!” Tim angrily scolded, leaving the bodyguard with no choice but to lead his men and follow him straight to Ethan.
