Chapter 440 Dashiell in a Knot
Ethan was just a Half-Step Grandmaster himself. Sure, he had a buddy, Francis, who was a full-blown Grandmaster, but those guys wouldn't mess with small fry unless you poke 'em real hard. No way he'd stoop to being a bodyguard for some regular Joe.
For most folks, having a few tough guys as bodyguards was already a big deal. A Half-Step Grandmaster, who’s just a notch below the big leagues, would never play babysitter for an ordinary person!
Zephyr never thought Ethan would actually hire a Half-Step Grandmaster to watch over Beverly. That totally wrecked his plan to mess with her or turn her against Ethan using Logan!
"You told me to stick to Beverly and get her on our side, so I came to Novaria. But you didn't even hook me up with a decent bodyguard. Are you trying to get me killed? You better get me a Half-Step Grandmaster right now, or I'm out. Someone else can do this crap!" Logan snapped, even throwing a threat at Zephyr.
"You moron, didn't I tell you to steer clear of Ethan? Did he catch you?" Zephyr growled.
"How was I supposed to know he'd just pop up like that? What are you saying? Trying to dodge the blame? Even without Ethan, Beverly's got a Half-Step Grandmaster with her. What do you want me to do?" Logan shot back, even more pissed.
"Forget it, no point in arguing now. Do you think you can just find a Half-Step Grandmaster whenever you want? Do you even know who that guy is?" Zephyr suddenly switched gears.
"How would I know? Never seen him before! Oh, right, he's bald and about Ethan's age!" Logan grumbled.
"Bald?" Zephyr was clearly stumped.
"If you don't get me a Half-Step Grandmaster, I'm outta here!" Logan huffed again.
"Chill out. If Beverly's a no-go, go after her parents. No way George is just gonna hand over all his family's stuff to Ethan!" Zephyr thought for a bit and then gave Logan his next target.
"George? Didn't Ethan send them to Everglow City?" Logan frowned. Best not to tick off a Half-Step Grandmaster, but this meant heading to Everglow City!
Who knew if Beverly's family had a Half-Step Grandmaster with them, but before, the Miller and Harris families had their experts secretly watching over them!
"Don't be stupid. I wouldn't send you into a death trap! They've already moved to Novaria with Beverly. I'll send you their address later. Figure out how to get to George. Do I need to spell it out for you?" Zephyr said sternly.
"Fine, but if I pull this off, don't forget what you promised me!" Logan hesitated, then gritted his teeth and agreed.
Clearly, he was taking the lead this time because Zephyr had promised him some sweet rewards.
"Don't worry. If you can get George's family on our side, I'll keep my word!" Zephyr agreed without a second thought.
After setting Trevor up to watch over Beverly, Ethan left the Cloud Group. Before heading out, he shot a message to Jayden, telling him to send out a formal notice to all branch families to pool their assets into the main family.
Sitting in his office, Jayden saw Ethan's order. He looked calm, but inside, he was freaking out.
He could feel Ethan's resolve this time, and it seemed like Ethan was really planning to shake the Wilson family to its core!
Jayden had no clue how things would turn out, but he knew he had to trust Ethan's plans, no questions asked!
"This Ethan guy is something else! Jayden just faxed over a document. Check it out!" Still in Everglow City, Dashiell called his crew for a meeting and tossed the latest order on the table.
"We heard rumors, but I didn't think Ethan would be this hasty. He hasn't even officially taken over as head of the family, and he's already throwing orders around!"
"I think he's clueless. Does he really think just 'cause Brady handed him the family head title, he can do whatever he wants?"
"I bet all the branch families will gang up against him as the soon-to-be head!"
The room buzzed with chatter, most of it mocking Ethan.
Listening to this, Dashiell's face turned dark and stormy.
"Ethan's position as head is in real trouble this time!" Eugene stood up and snorted.
Eugene was Dashiell's eldest son and the one he thought was the best fit to take over. Dashiell had been grooming him for years, and Eugene had grown into a cocky and dismissive guy.
"Is that what you all think?" Dashiell asked, squinting his eyes.
"Dad, what do you mean? Do you think any branch family would back him after this order? Even George's side probably can't stomach this, right? This is basically cutting off our branch families' lifeline!" Seeing Dashiell's displeasure, Eugene cautiously analyzed.
"Have you ever thought about why Ethan's doing this? Do you really think he's dumb?" Dashiell looked at Eugene with some disappointment and asked again.
"How would I know what he's thinking? But his actions this time are definitely off. Is there some hidden agenda?" Eugene pouted, dismissively asking.
"Who remembers how Ethan got the head position?" Dashiell sighed. He was frustrated but couldn't bring himself to scold Eugene directly.
"It was a deal between Brady and Jessie, right? Didn't you and Zephyr go with Brady to meet Ethan and Jessie last time?" Eugene finally remembered why Ethan was supposed to take over.
"That's right, and you still remember. Back then, Brady wanted Ethan and Jessie back in the Wilson family, but Jessie made that demand. Brady eventually agreed. It seemed like Jessie cared a lot about the head position, but in reality, Ethan didn't care at all!" Dashiell analyzed Ethan's mindset pretty well. He could sense Ethan's disdain and dissatisfaction with the whole Wilson family. Otherwise, Ethan wouldn't have used such a method to pressure Brady.
"Doesn't care? No way, right? If he really doesn't care about being head, wouldn't that be good for us? Could he be doing all this just to dodge the head position?" Eugene clearly didn't get Dashiell's point and said in surprise.
"But have you thought about whether Brady would agree? If Ethan doesn't become head, it means Ethan and Jessie won't return to the Wilson family. They might even become the Wilson family's biggest enemies! He's using this method to force Brady to give in!" Dashiell had no patience left to play guessing games with Eugene and shook his head in exasperation.
"No way! Is Brady actually begging him to become head?" Eugene exclaimed, and the others in the room looked at each other in disbelief at such a possibility.
