Chapter 395 The First Phone Call
The next morning, Alice and Ethan came downstairs together and ran into Eric in the living room. Eric's eyes darted between them, suspicious since Alice didn't seem like someone who'd just had her first time.
"Did you two sleep together last night?" Eric asked, clearly uneasy.
"Don't you think you're being nosy?" Ethan rolled his eyes, not wanting to deal with Eric.
"Ethan, if you ever abandon Alice, you'll regret it!" Eric warned fiercely.
"She's mine now, so of course, I won't leave her! Old man!" Ethan replied indifferently.
"She's my daughter, so that makes you my son-in-law. Why call me old man?" Eric snapped.
"You stay here with him. I'll handle some business and then we'll head back to Vexa together," Ethan told Alice gently.
"Alright, be careful. I'll wait for you at home," Alice nodded obediently.
Since last night, Alice had dropped her tough exterior and become sweet and gentle.
After fixing Ethan's collar and watching him leave, Alice's eyes sparkled with happiness.
"Did you two not use protection?" Eric suddenly asked from behind her.
"What?" Alice was caught off guard.
"When can I expect a grandchild?" Eric pressed, eyes wide.
"That depends on when I get pregnant!" Alice shot back, her fierceness returning.
Eric slapped his forehead, losing his temper.
Ethan drove to the motel where Wade hid. Soon, Angela came out and got into the passenger seat.
Unlike yesterday, Angela was back in her casual clothes and seemed more relaxed.
"Are you okay?" Angela asked, relieved to see Ethan in good spirits.
"I'm fine. Giving you some energy didn't affect me much. How's Wade?" Ethan shifted the topic.
"He's fine, but this place isn't safe. We need to get the hard drive and get him back to Everglow City ASAP," Angela said seriously.
"If all goes well, we might leave tonight," Ethan said, activating Wade's phone.
As soon as the phone was on, a flood of notifications came in.
Apparently, many calls and messages had come through while the phone was off.
Ethan skimmed through the messages. Besides missed calls, there were many inquiries about Wade's situation.
Just then, the phone rang. Someone had called Wade's number as soon as it was turned on.
If it wasn't the persistent caller, then someone had used technical means to track the number.
Ethan didn't answer. He placed the phone on the center console and sped away.
"Why didn't you answer? It could be the person with the hard drive!" Angela frowned, looking at the number.
"No rush. Let him wait a bit," Ethan said with a patient smile.
But the caller was persistent. One call after another came in—second, third...
It wasn't until the fifth call that Ethan finally answered.
"Wade, you finally picked up?" a deep voice said.
"I'm not Wade. Who are you?" Ethan asked calmly.
"Why do you have Wade's phone?" the man demanded.
"You don't need to know that. First, tell me who you are," Ethan shot back.
"Are you the one who went to Wade's apartment last night?" the man asked after a pause.
"If you don't answer my question, I'll hang up. I don't have time for games," Ethan warned.
"I'm Arnold Martin. I have the hard drive. Let's make a deal," Arnold quickly said.
"A deal? I'm interested. Tell me more," Ethan responded with a smile.
"It's simple. You give me Wade and the password, and I'll give you a large sum of money, enough for you to live comfortably for the rest of your life. I think you won't refuse," Arnold said, trying to entice Ethan.
"No, I have a better deal. I'll give you a large sum of money, and you give me the hard drive. I think you shouldn't refuse either," Ethan countered, smiling.
"Are you joking? If I find you, you might never laugh again," Arnold's voice turned icy.
"If you're so capable, then come find me. I won't turn off my phone. You should be able to locate me," Ethan laughed and hung up.
"You just hung up like that?" Angela asked, surprised.
"Trust me. Arnold wants the password more than we want the hard drive. He'll come to us," Ethan said as he drove onto the highway, heading out of town.
"How can you be sure the hard drive is with him?" Angela asked, still worried.
"If he didn't have it, he wouldn't be tracking this number. He wouldn't have any leverage. Plus, he was the first to call after the phone was turned on, and no one else has shown up," Ethan explained calmly.
Angela frowned, realizing Ethan made sense. If Arnold had the hard drive, others would wait for it and Wade to appear.
"Where are we going now?" Angela asked as Ethan sped along the highway.
"We're picking a suitable place to deal with them. Too many people in the city; it's inconvenient," Ethan said expressionlessly.
Angela's face changed slightly. After witnessing Ethan's power last night, she wondered, 'Would he really go on a rampage?'
