Chapter 305 Forced Apprenticeship
When Ronald spoke, Larry shot Ethan a venomous glare and barked, "Didn't you hear my master? He’s offering to take you on as a registered disciple so you can join the Selection Meeting. Aren't you gonna thank him?"
Ethan barely had time to react before Larry's words made him laugh out of sheer anger.
"What’s so funny? Don’t get too excited. My master’s only taking you on temporarily. Whether you become a true disciple depends on if you pass the Celestia Vale assessment in two years!" Larry assumed Ethan was thrilled at the chance to become a disciple of a Celestia Vale elder.
"Are you an idiot? When did I ever agree to be your master's disciple or join the Selection Meeting?" Ethan looked at Larry like he was a fool.
"What do you mean? My master’s being kind. Don’t be ungrateful!" Larry was shocked Ethan wasn’t jumping at the chance.
"Larry, shut up!" Ronald frowned and scolded Larry before Ethan could respond.
"Yes, sir..." Larry muttered, clearly reluctant but not daring to disobey.
"Ethan, do you not want to be my disciple?" Ronald turned to Ethan, his face darkening.
"I have a question," Ethan said calmly, not answering directly.
"What’s your question?" Ronald asked, frowning.
"I’ve been expelled from the Wilson family and can’t join the Selection Meeting. Plus, the Wilson family would never give me this chance. Why are you seeking me out?" Ethan asked, confused.
"The Wilson family? If it were just them, you wouldn’t qualify. But I know you’re also the heir of the ZF Guild, which gives you a spot!" Ronald revealed.
Ethan’s face stayed impassive, but he was genuinely shocked.
He hadn’t expected his identity as the ZF Guild heir to be exposed. Was Celestia Vale really that powerful?
"Sorry, but I don’t want to join any Selection Meeting. Please leave," Ethan flatly refused after his initial shock.
He knew it was a trap!
Celestia Vale knew his identity and that he had the Sun and Moon Beads. If they truly wanted him as a disciple, why send someone like Jesse, a Half-Step Grandmaster, to seize his Sun and Moon Beads?
"You dare refuse me?" Ronald’s face darkened, not expecting Ethan to reject him so bluntly.
"There are many things you wouldn’t expect. I may not be a contemporary master like your Celestia Vale elders, but since you know I’m from the ZF Guild, you should also know I’d never agree to such an absurd condition. I don’t need to stoop to taking a Celestia Vale elder as a master!" Ethan sneered.
"You know I'm a master-level expert, yet you dare insult me like this, are you asking for death?" Ronald's face twitched with sudden anger. He hadn't expected Ethan to show such disdain.
"So you know you're at the master level. Did you come here today to bully the weak and flaunt your power?" Ethan remained unmoved, snorting disdainfully.
"Ronald, let me teach him a lesson!" Larry had been itching to make a move. Seeing Ethan insult Ronald, he knew his chance had come and immediately volunteered.
"Fine, teach him a lesson, but don't kill him!" Ronald restrained his urge to strangle Ethan himself and slowly nodded.
"So, I was right. I've never seen someone forcefully take on a disciple! If you want to fight, come on. I'd like to see what kind of strength a high disciple of a Celestia Vale elder has to boast about." Ethan sneered. Though his energy wasn't up to a Half-Step Grandmaster level, he was confident he could handle an average one. At the very least, he could escape if he couldn't win, as long as a master level didn't intervene.
Just as the confrontation was about to erupt, a figure silently appeared in the courtyard.
Ethan was speechless upon seeing the newcomer. He hadn't expected Jesse to show up at this moment. Was he here to seize the Sun and Moon Beads again?
"Mr. Lewis, why are you at Ethan's house instead of at your Aurora Peak? As far as I know, you're not on the list of elders for this Selection Meeting!" To Ethan's surprise, Jesse was addressing Ronald and Larry, his words full of warning.
Ronald's face flashed with anger but mostly helplessness, clearly not expecting Jesse to appear suddenly.
"Jesse, what my master does is none of your business. Stay out of it!" Larry scolded Jesse with an ugly expression.
"Do you want to spar with me?" Jesse asked calmly, showing no sign of backing down.
Larry was about to speak when Ronald's cold snort made him swallow his words.
"Jesse, I have some friendship with your master. For his sake, I won't make things difficult for you today. I see potential in Ethan and want to take him as a disciple. Besides, the ZF Guild does have a spot. If he agrees, I'll explain it to Brady when I return." Ronald's face suddenly softened, and he explained earnestly to Jesse.
"Has Ethan agreed?" Jesse's question made Ronald extremely uncomfortable.
"No, he doesn't know what's good for him!" Larry chimed in.
"Since Ethan doesn't agree, I won't force him. The matter ends here. Let's go!" With a cold snort, Ronald leaped over the two-meter-high courtyard wall and disappeared.
"We'll see about this!" Larry glared unwillingly at Ethan and Jesse before leaping away like Ronald.
