Chapter 566 The Astonishing Ethan
Cynthia didn't know much, but Lorenzo had clearly caught wind of last night's drama, which explained his vibe. Luckily, he didn't want to stress her out, so he kept it on the down-low during lunch.
"We're done eating. Can you tidy up a bit? We gotta head upstairs pronto. You said he was putting on airs. What if he throws a fit later?" Angela gave Cynthia a peck on the cheek and said it like it was no big deal.
"Just finished eating and you kiss me with a greasy mouth? Gross, get outta here," Cynthia wiped her cheek, looking both annoyed and amused, shooing them away.
Angela grabbed Ethan and rushed upstairs.
When they opened the door to Lorenzo's study on the second floor, they found him at his desk, looking all serious and deep in thought.
"Dad, whatcha up to?" Angela was the first to break the silence.
"What were you two up to last night?" Lorenzo shot back, looking all stern.
Angela couldn't help but shoot a guilty glance at Ethan. A lot went down last night, but her mind immediately flashed to that moment with Ethan at the hotel.
"Alright, since you already know, I'll spill. I took Angela to a hotel last night," Ethan sighed, bracing himself for the fallout, and dropped the bomb.
Lorenzo almost choked on his water. "What kind of nonsense is that?"
Angela was floored. Ethan's answer was even crazier than she imagined. She was instantly both embarrassed and pissed.
"What did you just say?" Lorenzo wondered if he heard right.
"I said I took your daughter to a hotel," Ethan repeated, dead serious.
Lorenzo stared at Ethan for a long moment, then suddenly burst out laughing in disbelief.
"Why would you two ditch a perfectly good home to go to a hotel? We didn't even set up the guest room last night," Lorenzo pointed out. The hint was clear: Ethan could've just stayed in Angela's room at home.
"If you put it that way, we'll stay home tonight," Ethan nodded earnestly.
Angela couldn't help but laugh. She realized Ethan was just trying to change the subject and lighten the mood.
"Alright, you know I'm not asking where you slept last night." Lorenzo wasn't buying it. After laughing, he got back to the main issue, but the tension had eased.
"Dad, I know what you're getting at. Matteo's death and Giuseppe's disappearance have nothing to do with us," Angela assured Lorenzo, looking exasperated.
"Yeah, we were at the hotel at the time, and the couple next door can vouch for us," Ethan added seriously.
Angela was mortified. But Ethan was right. They were at the hotel when it all went down, and the couple next door could actually back them up. But she really didn't want to bring that up. It was too embarrassing.
"As long as it has nothing to do with you. I heard about what went down at RD Club last night as soon as I got to work this morning. I was just worried you wouldn't be able to clear your names." Lorenzo was convinced by Ethan's words. He wanted to say more but was afraid Ethan would drop another bombshell, so he decided to let it go.
After leaving the study, Angela shot Ethan a death glare and hissed, "Why'd you have to spill the beans to my dad?"
"Hey, it's not my fault. At least the truth smoothed things over, right? Everything's cool now," Ethan said, awkwardly scratching his nose.
"Whatever, just don't ever bring up what happened at the hotel again," Angela warned, clearly pissed.
"Alright, alright, I won't mention it. I'll keep my mouth shut, promise," Ethan quickly nodded.
As they were heading downstairs, Marco walked in, chatting with Cynthia. Spotting Ethan and Angela, he made a beeline for them.
"Ethan, Angela, you heard about last night, right?" Marco asked straight up.
"You didn't say anything stupid to my mom, did you?" Angela immediately pulled Marco aside, whispering urgently.
"No, I just asked if you were here," Marco explained quickly.
Angela let go of him, relieved. Marco might not be the most reliable, but he knew when to keep his mouth shut.
"Did you come to talk about last night?" Ethan raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah, I was floored when I heard the news this morning. Then I found out Leo went to see you, so I held off calling. Figured he'd fill you in," Marco said casually.
"You really need a hobby. Why stress over stuff that doesn't involve you?" Ethan said, exasperated.
"This does involve you a bit. How could I not worry?" Marco defended himself, feeling a bit hurt.
"Alright, we get it, you're worried. But seriously, this has nothing to do with us. Chill out," Angela said, looking at Marco with a helpless expression.
"As long as it has nothing to do with you. I was really worried Ethan went and offed them last night," Marco finally relaxed.
"I wouldn't stoop to such low methods to deal with them," Ethan snorted dismissively.
Just then, Ethan's phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID. It was Alexander. Without stepping away from Angela and Marco, he answered.
"Mr. Wilson, I dug into last night's incident. Not much online, but I got some clues from the police and military. It's clear Matteo's death and Giuseppe's disappearance are tied to martial artists," Alexander reported.
"Any leads on who did it?" Ethan raised an eyebrow. This was shaping up just like he thought—definitely not some run-of-the-mill grudge, but the work of a pro.
"No, the perp's a real pro, left no traceable evidence or marks. From the scene, it's likely a master-level expert," Alexander shared.
"Master level, huh? That's a big move. I was just looking for one to spar with. Didn't expect they'd come to me," Ethan grinned. Instead of feeling threatened, he was pumped.
