Chapter 201 I Will Not Break My Word
Ethan left amidst Luke's playful scolding. Having regained a new lease on life, it was natural for him to have some thoughts that typical elderly might not. Ethan could understand this.
Overall, Ethan had great admiration for Luke. He hoped that Luke could maintain this youthful mindset and vigor, becoming more youthful as he aged.
As Ethan and Lysander left Luke's residence and entered the garden, Ethan saw two girls sitting in the pavilion, chatting about something.
Shaking off his previous thoughts, Ethan took a deep breath and walked quickly towards them.
Seeing Ethan return, they immediately stopped their conversation, stood up from the stone bench, and walked towards him.
"How is Luke?" Chloe asked.
"He's fine now. What were you talking about?" Ethan asked tentatively.
"Nothing much!" Thinking about Sarah's previous ridiculous idea, Chloe felt her face flush and looked away, avoiding Ethan's gaze.
Seeing this, Ethan was a bit confused. "What's wrong? Should I not have asked?"
"Of course, you shouldn't have asked! We were discussing how to deal with you, you fickle man!" Sarah pouted and huffed.
Ethan scratched his head awkwardly, feeling guilty.
He still didn't know how to explain things between him and Sarah to Chloe.
"I know what you want to say. Sarah and I have already talked. For now, let's leave it at that. Once the matter in Everglow City is resolved, and if we can return to Novaria, we'll discuss it then!" Chloe, not wanting to make Ethan too uncomfortable, finally softened and explained.
"What do you mean, 'leave it at that?' What did you agree on?" Ethan was even more puzzled.
"You may quietly revel in that. Chloe agreed to stay by your side!" Sarah rolled her eyes and reminded him.
Ethan's eyes lit up, and he immediately grabbed Chloe's hands, making a solemn promise. "Really? Chloe, I promise I won't let anyone take you away from me again!"
"You should focus on the task at hand. The marriage with the Ashford family isn't over yet, and you promised Chloe you'd cure her grandfather!" Sarah reminded him again.
"Of course. Anything I promise you, I will do. I won't go back on my word!" Ethan nodded firmly.
"Then what are we waiting for? Since Luke's situation is resolved, let's go treat Mr. Miller. Chloe wants to bring her grandfather back as soon as possible!" Sarah urged.
Hearing this, Ethan immediately had Lysander drive them out of the inner part of Fragrant Garden.
The inner part of Fragrant Garden was the core area. Compared to the outer part, it was not very large, and only important people could enjoy its services.
The outer part, on the other hand, was semi-open to the public. If you had money, you could stay there to recuperate.
The outer part was not as heavily guarded as the inner part and was several times larger. It was divided into three recuperation zones.
Ethan had Lysander drive to the intersection, where he encountered Percival in critical condition earlier that day. He then asked him to wait in the car while he and the two girls walked directly into the second recuperation zone.
The entire second recuperation zone was essentially a luxurious hospital building, fully equipped with all necessary facilities, including a gym and a cinema.
Ethan led them to the front desk in the lobby on the first floor to inquire about Percival's room location.
Before the front desk nurse could pull up the records on the computer, Atticus, who had previously blocked Ethan, walked over.
"Come here!" Ethan called out to Atticus without hesitation.
Atticus initially looked puzzled, but when he recognized Ethan, his face changed instantly. He thought, 'Is he here to cause trouble for me? On the day I saved Percival, I had only questioned his identity a few times, not knowing who he was. Surely, that wasn't enough to warrant revenge?'
"Hello, is there something you need?" Atticus, feeling uneasy, couldn't pretend not to hear and bravely approached, forcing a strained smile.
"You know him? Why does he seem so scared of you?" Sarah asked Ethan curiously, noticing Atticus's distressed expression.
Ethan was at loss whether to cry or to laugh. He remembered the encounter and decided not to hold a grudge. He asked, "I recall you were the doctor in charge of Percival that day, right? Which room is Percival in? Take me there! I promised to treat him within a week!"
Realizing Ethan wasn't there to cause trouble but to save a life, Atticus breathed a sigh of relief and quickly nodded. "Yes, Percival is under my care. I can take you there right now!"
The outer part's setup was identical to the inner, with single-occupancy rooms, each a small suite with a living room and bedroom.
At the door of one such suite, a group of the Miller family's apprentices stood guard, their faces full of solemnity.
When Ethan and his companions arrived with Atticus, they encountered these apprentices, and the atmosphere became tense.
Ethan recognized all these Miller family apprentices from the engagement party. If the apprentices were here, Munro and Cherry must have arrived, too!
"I didn't expect your parents would be one step ahead of us! They're probably waiting for me," Ethan said, touching his nose and giving Chloe a wry smile.
"No matter what, saving Grandpa is the priority!" Chloe took a deep breath, her cold hand gripping Ethan's tightly, showing her inner turmoil. Having just left the Miller family and with the engagement party failing, she didn't know how to face her parents.
"Since you're here, come in," Merrick said, coming out of the room upon hearing the commotion and nodding at Ethan and his companions.
The apprentices stepped aside, allowing the three to pass.
Ethan, holding Chloe's hand, walked directly into the room.
Inside, Percival lay on the bed, tubes from various medical instruments attached to his body, his eyes tightly closed and motionless.
If not for the slight mist on the oxygen mask, he would appear dead.
Munro and Cherry stood by his bedside, their faces grim, and they showed no reaction to Ethan and his companions' arrival.
"Grandpa!" Chloe's heart ached at the sight of the comatose Percival, and she rushed to the bedside. But Percival showed no response.
"Let's go out. Perhaps only Ethan can wake Percival. We'll wait outside," Munro said, patting Cherry's shoulder gently.
He didn't look at Ethan once.
Cherry glanced at Ethan before following Munro out of the room.
In an instant, only Ethan and his two companions remained in the room.
