Chapter 405 Forced Marriage
"What are you two talking about?" Alice asked.
"We're talking about you guys. Aren't you talking about us?" Ethan shot back.
It was true. Davis was meeting Ethan for the first time and learning about Ethan and Alice's relationship, so naturally, the conversation revolved around them.
Lilia must've been asking Alice about Ethan too.
"Getting a princess's attention should be a big deal for you! But don't get any ideas about Lilia!" Alice giggled and warned Ethan.
"Alice, stop it. Mr. Wilson doesn't seem like a playboy!" Lilia blushed and complained.
"Just kidding. Worried your fiancé will hear?" Alice shrugged.
"Lilia's engaged?" Ethan asked calmly.
"Yeah, her fiancé is Herong Winston, heir to one of Norway's top three conglomerates, the Winston family. He's also a baron appointed by King Ryan," Alice said before Lilia could respond.
"I don't want to talk about him. Let's discuss something fun!" Lilia said, clearly not happy with Herong.
Both Alice and Ethan looked a bit surprised.
"Does Lilia not want to see me?" Herong's voice suddenly came from the doorway. A young man in a suit walked in with a slightly sinister smile.
When Ethan focused on Herong, he felt a familiar, even stronger aura than Lilia's, making him uneasy.
"Herong, why are you here?" Lilia's eyes showed panic but quickly calmed down.
Ethan noticed this, making him more curious about their relationship.
"I put aside my business in Toronto to discuss our wedding date. King Seymour summoned me to the palace and asked me to bring you back!" Herong didn't even glance at Ethan and the others, staring directly at Lilia.
"But I'm with my friends now. Can I go back later?" Lilia's face turned sour, almost pleading.
"No, you must come with me now. As for your friends..." Herong paused, not finishing his sentence.
"I'll go with you," Lilia agreed, looking defeated.
"That's more like it. Come on!" Herong extended his right arm, waiting for her to take it.
"Sorry, Alice, I can't stay. Davis will entertain you all for me," Lilia said sadly.
"Wait, Lilia, what's going on? You're a princess, why are you so obedient to him?" Alice pulled Lilia behind her.
"Are you going to stop me from taking Lilia back to the palace?" Herong glared at Alice.
"Herong, I know who you are, but don't think being a baron makes you so great. Don't forget, Lilia is a princess!" Alice retorted coldly.
Herong didn't expect Alice to talk to him like that. His face darkened.
"Alice, don't. Don't cause trouble because of me!" Lilia pleaded.
"You're my best friend. I can't just watch you get bullied. I won't allow it!" Alice said firmly.
Ethan sensed a strong aura and intense killing intent from Herong, but it quickly faded.
Herong's gaze lingered on Ethan, as if trying to figure him out.
"I'll give you five more minutes. I don't want any trouble!" Herong warned Lilia, unable to gauge Ethan's depth. Then he walked out of the club.
"Lilia, what's going on? I thought you and Herong were happy, but it doesn't seem like it!" Alice asked, holding Lilia's hands.
"Alice, don't ask. I have my reasons. My dad arranged the engagement with Herong, and no one could change it. I have to go with him!" Lilia explained helplessly.
"Herong just threatened you, and you still want to go with him? I don't get why Ryan wants you to marry such a jerk. I thought he was a gentleman!" Alice said angrily.
"There's no choice. Ryan had to agree to the engagement!" Lilia said painfully.
"What happened? If you don't tell me, I can't help you. If you don't want to be with Herong, tell me everything," Alice said seriously.
She wasn't boasting; she had Ethan now and trusted him completely.
"I'll explain!" Davis stepped forward, sighing.
"What do you know?" Alice asked urgently.
"Six months ago, the king got seriously ill. The royal family brought in many doctors, but nothing worked," Davis reminded.
"I know that, but then I went to Vexa and heard the king suddenly got better. Isn't he fine now? What does this have to do with Lilia?" Alice asked, puzzled.
"Actually, my dad's illness wasn't cured. Herong claimed he could cure my dad but demanded to marry me," Lilia explained softly.
"He? Did you believe him? What if he was lying and couldn't cure Ryan?" Alice asked in surprise.
"To make us believe he could cure my dad, Herong demanded an engagement first and then treated my dad for a while. My dad only started to improve after his treatment. But Herong said if my dad isn't completely cured within a month, his life would be in danger. Now he demands to marry me within a month, or he won't treat my dad!" Lilia continued.
"He used such dirty tactics to threaten you, and he's the heir to the Winston family! Eric was right. These big families are all crooked!" Alice said angrily.
"Alice, this has nothing to do with you. Let me go back; you can't help me!" Lilia said, releasing Alice's hands and turning to leave, but Alice grabbed her again.
