Chapter 425 Sorry

Chloe and the others didn't really care if Ethan became the head of the Wilson family.

They didn't want him taking on too much risk, even if he could handle it.

But they knew Ethan had his own goals, and they couldn't stop him.

So if Ethan didn't care about being the head, they cared even less.

"When are you going back to the Wilson Villa? The headship ceremony is in seven days. Starting tomorrow, you only have six days to prepare," Jayden said seriously.

"I need to go to the military camp tomorrow. I'll return to the Wilson Villa a day before the ceremony, so in five days," Ethan decided after thinking for a moment.

"Are we all going together?" Jayden asked.

"Yeah, let's go together. I wouldn't feel comfortable letting them go first, and there's no need for that," Ethan nodded.

"Alright, I'll arrange for everyone to return to Wilson Villa in five days," Jayden agreed.

After dinner, Jayden left, and Ethan arranged for Trevor to stay in the villa next door, where Hannah used to live. It was familiar to Trevor, so Ethan gave him the key.

Jessie wanted Trevor to stay at home, but with the four beautiful daughters-in-law around, it felt too awkward to suggest it.

On their first night back in Novaria, Chloe and the others didn't want to bother Ethan. They did housework, giving Jessie some free time to chat with Ethan on the rooftop terrace.

"Even though you didn't say it, a lot must have happened after you left Everglow City, right?" Jessie asked calmly.

"Nothing gets past you. I had a special mission, but it's done now. I didn't mention it because it was confidential and I didn't want you to worry," Ethan brushed it off.

"Is it related to the military?" Jessie asked, frowning.

"Yes, so I have to keep it confidential. I also need to go to the military camp tomorrow," Ethan explained.

"Your ties with the military are getting stronger, but so are the responsibilities and pressures. Are you sure you can handle it?" Jessie reminded him seriously.

"Why do you ask?" Ethan was surprised.

"The military values you for your worth. If they think you're no longer useful, they might take back everything they gave you without hesitation," Jessie said slowly.

"Maybe, but I don't care. It's a mutually beneficial relationship. Even if I have some personal connections, it doesn't affect the bigger picture," Ethan nodded noncommittally.

"I'm just reminding you to be cautious and remember who you are. Don't get too deeply involved with the military. Given our background, we're inherently a threat to them. I hope you understand this," Jessie reminded him seriously again.

"I get it," Ethan nodded.

"Trevor's a good guy, simple-minded. Having him around helps you and eases my mind," Jessie shifted the topic.

"Is that why you made him your godson?" Ethan laughed.

"Partly selfish, but true. I also felt sorry for his background," Jessie smiled bitterly.

"What about Alice?" Ethan asked suddenly.

"You should ask Chloe and the others, not me," Jessie said, patting his face and pointing downstairs.

"They probably don't mind too much," Ethan said, feeling a bit guilty.

"You've been spoiled by Chloe and Sarah. Since they broke the mold, you've gotten more indulgent," Jessie said, annoyed.

"Not really. I knew Alice before any of them," Ethan defended himself awkwardly.

"Let's not talk about them. I know you were married before, to a girl named Sharon, right?" Jessie's words made Ethan frown.

"Why bring her up now?" Ethan wanted to change the topic.

"Tell me about you two," Jessie insisted.

Ethan was silent for a moment but eventually gave in and recounted everything about him and Sharon.

He didn't know how long he talked, but it felt like he was telling someone else's story. When he finished, he saw tears in Jessie's eyes.

Clearly, Ethan's three-year marriage and his one-sided efforts broke Jessie's heart.

"It's all in the past. If you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't even remember Sharon," Ethan said with a carefree smile.

"I saw her yesterday," Jessie suddenly said.

"Did she come to see you?" Ethan frowned.

"No, I had Jayden find her. She was once your wife, and as your mom who never met her, I had to say something on your behalf," Jessie explained seriously.

Ethan could imagine Jessie and Sharon sitting together, Sharon's shocked expression, and maybe Jessie telling her she was blind not to cherish him.

"Was that necessary?" Ethan shook his head, trying to dismiss those images, and smiled wryly.

"I had a good talk with her, scolded her, and finally gave her two million dollars as a breakup fee," Jessie said slowly.

"I'll have Jayden get the money back," Ethan said with a frown.

"No need. She didn't take it. She asked me to tell you something and then left," Jessie said with a bitter smile.

"What?" Ethan was surprised. Could two million dollars not attract Sharon?

"She asked me to tell you she's sorry," Jessie said and then walked into the stairwell, leaving Ethan alone on the terrace in the cold wind.
