Chapter 528 A Chance Encounter
However, Ethan totally didn't see it coming when he bumped into an old buddy at the airport.
"Wait, you're heading to Phukettle too?" They both blurted out at the same time.
Ethan was scratching his head. 'Shouldn't Angela be with the Nightfall Brigade? What's she doing globe-trotting again?'
"Looks like we're headed to the same spot. You chasing after that thing too?" Angela eyed him suspiciously.
"You mean Lope Town?" Ethan's heart did a little flip.
"Guess I hit the nail on the head. Honestly, I'm on a mission to snag that thing. You’re not gonna mess with my plans, are you?" Angela's face turned all serious.
"Just you?" Ethan was about to throw some shade, but then he felt her peak warrior vibes and was taken aback.
"You think I'm a joke?" Angela's pretty face turned stormy.
Back in the day, with Ethan's help, she leveled up to a warrior and showed mad skills, climbing the ranks fast. She should be grateful, but his cocky tone was really getting on her nerves.
"Seriously, you've come a long way, and I'm impressed. But I'm not trying to rain on your parade. Even if you're a top-tier warrior now, you should steer clear of Lope Town's mess," Ethan's tone shifted, giving her a serious heads-up.
"As long as you don't mess up my plans, I've got my own ways. No need to worry," Angela snapped back, clearly ticked off.
"Chill, I'm just there to find someone. Not interested in your treasure hunt." Ethan chuckled. He didn't expect the Lope Town treasure to even get the military's attention, making him curious about what it could be.
"Find someone?" Angela looked even more puzzled.
"Yep, so no need to stress about me messing up your mission. Or, you know, you could ask for my help, and I might just lend a hand," Ethan teased.
"I can handle it myself," Angela huffed and stormed off to the check-in gate.
"Thought I'd be flying solo, but looks like I'll have some company. Could be fun." Ethan watched her walk away with a grin.
He sensed Angela's little moves. Even though she said she didn't need help, she was already reporting to the military.
Before boarding, Bennit called Ethan.
"Bennit, what's up?" Ethan knew what was coming and answered with a smirk.
"Cut the crap. Let's get to it. Since you're heading to Lope Town, help Angela and bring that thing back for me," Bennit's bossy voice came through.
"Bennit, that's not how you ask for a favor, man," Ethan rolled his eyes. If he didn't know Bennit's bad temper, he might've hung up.
"Alright, what do you want in return?" Bennit thought Ethan was angling for some perks.
"I can help, but I've got my own stuff to handle. As long as it doesn't mess with my plans, I'm cool with lending a hand. But seriously, what exactly are you after?" Ethan asked, curiosity getting the best of him.
"We don't really know," Bennit paused before admitting, sounding a bit defeated.
Ethan rolled his eyes. "You don't know what it is, and you're sending people to grab it?"
"Well, it's rumored to be some kind of magical artifact," Bennit hesitated before spilling the beans.
"A magical artifact?" Now Ethan was intrigued.
"Yeah, those things are rare treasures. You know how things are with the military. Right now, Angela's the best fit for the job. No one else can handle it. I wanted to send you, but Norman shot it down. Since you're going anyway, might as well help out," Bennit explained.
"With a treasure like that, there'll be tons of experts gunning for it. Are you sending Angela to her doom?" Ethan was not sure whether to laugh or cry at Bennit's plan.
"Honestly, we didn't expect much. Sending Angela was more about gathering intel on the ground. We didn't think she'd actually bring it back," Bennit admitted.
"So I just happened to be in the right place at the right time," Ethan felt a mix of amusement and annoyance.
"Are you in or not? Just give me a straight answer," Bennit pressed.
"If she listens, I'll help her out," Ethan said, then hung up, glancing over at Angela, who was waiting near the boarding gate.
Angela was staring back at Ethan, her face full of defiance.
"Think it's fun to plot against me?" Ethan walked up to Angela, squinting his eyes.
"When did I plot against you? Don't talk nonsense," Angela looked away, feeling a bit guilty.
"Own up if you did. Be bold. And your scheming wasn't very effective. If you used a honey trap, maybe I'd fall for it," Ethan teased, hooking Angela's chin with his hand in front of everyone.
Angela was immediately flustered. Before she could react, Ethan had already let go and walked towards the boarding gate.
Just then, the boarding announcement came over the speakers.
"Ethan, just you wait," Angela muttered, stomping her foot in anger as she followed him.
Since their last parting, Angela had thought they'd never cross paths again, like ships passing in the night.
Seeing Ethan again this time, Angela was surprised. This coincidence made her realize that something might still happen between them, though she'd never admit such a ridiculous thought now.
After boarding the plane, Ethan and Angela found their seats. They weren't far apart but were in different rows, with Angela sitting a few rows behind Ethan.
Dressed in professional attire, Angela looked like a young and vibrant urban professional. No one could guess she was a female general and a skilled one at that. Naturally, such a beautiful Angela caught the eyes of many men on the plane.
