Chapter 254 A Piece of Good News
"I must uphold my promises. I've already had Alexander arrange for someone to keep an eye on Joe and his family," Ethan said with a smile.
"Is that really necessary?" Sarah asked in surprise.
"We might not think so, but Dorian might. By now, he probably already knew Joe was to join us!" Ethan explained. Upon hearing this, Sarah and Chloe realized that he was planning to take action again.
By the time they left Skyline Center, it was already past nine in the evening. Ethan took the three girls directly back to the Harris's home.
Percival had come to the Harris's home today and had yet to leave immediately. Instead, he was studying with Carlos, drinking coffee, and playing chess. These two old friends were planning to talk all night. Even after the three girls had gone to bed, the light in the study was still on.
When Ethan arrived at the study, Percival and Carlos were still playing chess. Neither of them looked up, seemingly indifferent to his arrival.
Ethan wasn't in a hurry. He sat down beside them, made himself some water, and watched them play in silence.
By the time Ethan finished a pot of tea, the two finally finished their game, which ended in a draw.
"You seem in good humor, playing for so long and ending in a draw?" Ethan said with a laugh, looking at the few remaining pieces on the board.
"Isn't this result good? Or do you want to see one of us lose?" Percival finally looked up at Ethan and asked with a smile.
"There's no place for me to speak when you two are playing chess. I won't join. This result is fine!" Ethan said, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"If you hadn't come, we were about to go to bed," Carlos said as he made another pot of coffee.
"Sorry for keeping you up. I was delayed a bit at Skyline Center," Ethan explained with a wry smile.
"What do you want to talk about?" Percival asked curiously.
Ethan then recounted his meeting with Roy that evening. In fact, he had sent Carlos a message when he was on his way back, saying he wanted to talk tonight, which was why the two had been waiting for him.
After listening to Ethan, Percival and Carlos exchanged a puzzled look.
"You said the Dorian is secretly conducting biological research? What's the purpose of that? Do they dare to make biochemical weapons?" Percival asked, confused.
"I'm just being suspicious, but there's definitely something wrong with the top floor of Skyline Center, and it's gotta be shady. Given Roy's achievements in the field of biology, there's no need for him to engage in finance for monetary gain. I think it's just a cover," Ethan said, frowning.
"So, what are you thinking?" Carlos asked tentatively.
"We need to find out what Dorian is really up to. I think it isn't simple," Ethan said, shaking his head.
"Are you telling us this because you want us to investigate Roy?" Percival asked.
"Exactly. Right now, I am the foremost adversary of the Ashford family, and their attention is definitely on me. After thinking it over, I believe it's best to trouble you two with this matter," Ethan said with a wry smile, nodding.
"Then let's have someone keep an eye on him and find out if there's anything wrong with Roy," Carlos agreed immediately.
At that moment, Ethan's phone suddenly rang, but it was a text message. After glancing at the message, Ethan smiled.
"What's the good news now? Seeing you smile like that, I bet someone's in trouble," Noticing Ethan's expression, Carlos asked.
"Are you complimenting me?" Ethan was momentarily speechless and then said seriously, "I have another matter where I need your help."
"No outsiders here. Just say it." Percival nodded straightforwardly.
"I need to borrow a few people from you," Ethan explained.
"Borrow people?" Percival and Carlos were both taken aback. After exchanging a glance, they frowned.
Ethan's request for people clearly wasn't for ordinary individuals, as he wouldn't need them. They knew Ethan was asking for their family's top experts.
"That's right, I need a few experts to help me bring some people to Everglow City and ensure their safety," Ethan said.
"Four should be enough, right?" Carlos asked after glancing at Percival.
"Four from each family, a total of eight, should be enough," Ethan immediately stated in his requirement.
"You're protecting a whole family, aren't you? What exactly are you planning?" Percival asked in surprise.
"Can I keep it a secret for now?" Ethan asked with a wry smile.
"Fine, you can have the people, but after this is over, you need to share your ability to help martial artists develop their energy centers," Carlos reminded him with a cunning expression.
"That's my condition, too." Percival's eyes lit up.
"Deal!" Ethan knew Carlos and Percival would definitely take advantage of the situation, but he had no choice but to agree. After all, strengthening their side would ultimately benefit him as well.
Over the next two days, the news of Zenith Group moving out of Skyline Center and the change of ownership continued to spread, becoming a hot topic in Everglow City. It was also the most frustrating time for everyone in the Ashford family.
"Dorian, you all don't look too good. Still worried about the Skyline Center?" Dashiell appeared once again in Dorian's luxurious villa.
"Don't even mention it. Zenith Group has already moved out of Skyline Center. Now I'm just waiting for Kenny to return safely," Dorian said with a frustrated snort.
"In this matter, Ethan shouldn't go back on his word. Kenny will definitely be back tonight, so don't worry. I came today with good news to share with you," Dashiell said with a mysterious smile.
"Did that thing go well?" Dorian's interest was piqued.
"Yes, Beverly has got something. If it were me going to Baytown, it would have taken more time to take over IntelliMerge Group secretly. But she managed to do it in just a few days!" Dashiell nodded with a smile.
"Good, my hefty payment isn't in vain then. I'm going to retaliate tenfold this time!" Dorian was somewhat excited to get the confirmation.
Being defeated by Ethan was humiliating for him, and he couldn't wash away his humiliation by simply killing Ethan. He needed to win against Ethan fair and square!
