Chapter 513 Angel's Request
After they hit the base of the mountain, Ethan did his thing, muttering the mantra Angel taught him, and ripped open a space portal to the east with his superpowers.
"How'd you know there was a portal here and how to open it?" Dorian asked, eyes practically popping out of his head.
"Don't ask what you shouldn't!" Ethan shot back, rolling his eyes. No way was he gonna spill the beans to Dorian. He just marched right into the portal.
The rest of the crew hustled in after him. But when they landed, they were nowhere near the original spot. Instead, they were in some random mountain hollow, far from the entrance to the defensive mechanism.
"Y'all better forget this place ever existed," Ethan said, steadying himself and giving Elmer and the others a calm look.
He wasn't sweating Elmer, and Dorian wouldn't dare cross him. The only wildcard was Asura Bloodhand. But since Asura had to tag along back to Tiger Mount, there was no worry about him blabbing.
"Jessie's still waiting for us; we should get a move on so she doesn't freak out," Elmer reminded Ethan.
Ethan nodded and led the crew back to the original defensive mechanism entrance. It was a trek, but they'd manage.
Ethan had already marked the exit with a space node from Tiger Mount, so next time, they could just follow the node coordinates from the Tiger Mount secret realm. Those nodes were one-time use and drained a ton of superpower, but he wasn't sweating it.
When they got back to the entrance, Jessie was there, looking all kinds of startled when Ethan and the gang popped up behind her.
Ethan gave her the quick and dirty rundown of what went down, and Jessie just went quiet. They hadn't run into any danger, but they also didn't find the clues they were after. Another dead end.
Ethan kept the whole Angel-in-the-Requiem-Tower thing to himself, not even telling Jessie for now.
That night, Ethan and Jessie headed back to Novaria. Elmer went back to Wilson Villa, Dorian returned to Everglow City, and Ethan sent Asura Bloodhand back to the Tiger Mount secret realm.
Ethan had promised Elmer and Dorian some ancient books from the SA Guild. Francis, being the generous guy he was, handed over two ancient books, which were actually copies he made himself. He figured Ethan might need to hand out some books as favors, so he had some less important copies ready to go.
Elmer and Dorian were stoked and would probably lock themselves away to study the SA Guild's ancient books.
Back in Novaria, Ethan called up Zephyr, who was also in town, and told him to keep up the good work. He felt pretty chill leaving things in Zephyr's hands.
Ethan, fresh off his trip to the SA Guild's secret realm, just wanted to kick back at home with Chloe and the gang. These days were probably the most chill he'd had in a hot minute.
The Wilson family was cruising along smoothly without him stressing over it. Thanks to his recent hustle, the four major families, who used to do their own thing, had teamed up. Now they were in it together, for better or worse, so Ethan could finally relax a bit.
The only thing bugging him was any news about Matthew. His gut told him Matthew might be tied to the SA Guild's secrets, so Ethan kept a close eye on it.
The best part? Ethan didn't even have to leave home to dig up info on the SA Guild, thanks to Angel. Sure, the info was sketchy since Angel got it from souls she interrogated, but it was better than nothing.
Angel looked like she was eighteen, but she acted like a prison warden. Except this prison was huge, packed with souls.
The only silver lining for Ethan was that while Angel had lost her memory, the other souls in the Requiem Tower hadn't.
"Ethan, can you help me find my body?" One night, just as Ethan was about to grill Angel for more SA Guild dirt, she hit him with that question.
"The problem is, you don't even know who you are or where your body is. How am I supposed to help you find it?" Ethan asked, feeling kinda helpless.
He didn't know how to break it to Angel. It wasn't that he didn't want to help. She'd been stuck in that tower for so long, her body might be long gone.
"I can sense where my body is, but it's super far from here, and the signal's weak," Angel quickly explained.
"You can sense your body? Does that mean it's still in one piece?" Ethan asked, eyes wide.
"Of course, I'm Angel. Even if my soul's separated, my body's not easily destroyed. Once I find it, I can get all my memories back," Angel said, all proud.
Ethan frowned. He suddenly felt uneasy about Angel finding her body. Who knew what she'd be like with her memories back? More importantly, neither of them knew what her original power was.
Angel seemed clueless about stuff like warriors and master levels, like she and Ethan were from totally different worlds. Technically, they were from different time dimensions, only linked by the Requiem Tower.
"Can you answer a question for me first?" Ethan thought for a moment and then asked.
"What do you wanna know?" Angel asked, curious.
"If, and I mean if, you find your body and memories, will you ditch me right away?" Ethan asked, testing the waters.
"It's not that simple. Even if I find my body, it's not easy for my soul to go back. I also need to break the soul bond with the Requiem Tower first," Angel pouted, looking a bit bummed.
