Chapter 525 Jessie's Answer
When Trevor rolled back into Novaria, he made a beeline for Beverly. As he was heading out, Ethan couldn't resist ribbing him, saying he was hooked on Beverly and couldn't stay away.
Trevor didn't bother arguing; he just gave Ethan a cool wave and bounced. It was clear he was owning up to the whole thing. Ethan was kinda shocked at how fast things were moving.
But Ethan didn't have time to dwell on it 'cause as soon as he walked into the villa, there was Jessie, chilling on the sofa. He'd called her on his way back, and she was still up, obviously waiting for him.
"You're back. Why'd you suddenly head out to the desert?" Jessie asked the moment she saw him.
"I went to Celestia Vale," Ethan replied, keeping the whole Angel thing under wraps. Technically, he wasn't lying.
"Celestia Vale?" Jessie raised an eyebrow.
"Mom, Raymond spilled a lot last night. There's something I've been dying to ask you, but you never brought it up," Ethan cut straight to the chase.
"You wanna know about the Moon Bead, right?" Jessie seemed to read his mind.
Ethan didn't say a word; he just stared at her, waiting.
"Yeah, your dad brought it back and handed it to me himself," Jessie finally said, a bitter smile creeping onto her face.
"Did he tell you how he got it?" Ethan pressed on, thinking he was on the right track.
"Nope, just like those ancient books, he kept mum, and I didn't push," Jessie shook her head.
"Mom, you know he kept a lot from us," Ethan took a deep breath, trying to jog her memory.
"Of course, I know. We were married; I could sense he had secrets, but I trusted him," Jessie nodded, explaining.
"Even if he might be tied to Cross Christianity, you still trust him?" Ethan squinted, pushing further.
"I do," Jessie nodded without a second thought.
"He studied abroad when he was young, right?" Ethan switched gears.
"Yeah, I figured he might've made those connections back then. But until we know for sure, I choose to trust him," Jessie nodded firmly.
"The heir of the Wilson family, future head honcho, is a prime target for shady folks. It's probably 'cause of his status he got roped in," Ethan analyzed, staying cool.
"How much do you know?" Jessie asked, surprised.
"Not much more than you, but I'm sure now that Matthew was a top dog back then, always playing it low-key. And a guy like him, unless he wanted to, wouldn't be easily controlled by Cross Christianity," Ethan said, clenching his fists.
Jessie went quiet. Ethan's words made her face a lot of possibilities. But one thing was clear: the Cross Christianity token found by the Wilson family was definitely linked to Matthew. Meaning, Herman was actually on Matthew's side, and all these years, Brady took the fall for everything.
"So, since you went to Celestia Vale, how's Brady doing?" Jessie switched the topic.
"He stayed in Celestia Vale and probably won't be back. Maybe that's the best move for him," Ethan said, keeping his cool.
"Maybe Matthew wanted the Wilson family to end up like this," Jessie said with a bitter smile and a nod.
"You felt it too?" Ethan raised an eyebrow.
"Are you saying everything that happened over the years was his plan, that he set all this up?" Jessie caught on to what Ethan was implying.
"Isn't it? You must've helped him, right? You kept it from me all these years. And those years you were stuck with the Ashford family, was that really not your choice or Matthew's orders?" Ethan asked bluntly.
"Since you already know, I won't deny it. He did tell me that if he ever died, I should do something," Jessie admitted with a bitter smile.
"To get locked up by the Ashford family?" Ethan clenched his fists.
"He did it for you," Jessie stared at Ethan, trying to explain.
"Fine, now I even suspect you knew he wasn't dead all these years, maybe even met him," Ethan snorted coldly. He didn't know how many good reasons Matthew had for doing this, but feeling deceived was unbearable. It felt like a heavy stone on his chest, making it hard to breathe.
"I'm sorry. But believe me, I really don't know if he's truly dead. I haven't seen him all these years," Jessie looked at Ethan's grim face and anxiously explained.
"I will find him. I want to ask him face to face why all this happened," Ethan said through gritted teeth, clenching his fists.
Just then, Chloe and the others came running down from upstairs. Seeing Ethan and Jessie in the living room with tense expressions, they looked surprised.
"Ethan, what's going on?" Chloe asked worriedly, noticing Ethan's unusual state.
"Nothing, why did you all come down?" Ethan shook his head, forced a smile, and asked Chloe and the others.
"We heard some noise downstairs and figured it must be you coming back," Chloe glanced at Jessie, who looked a bit helpless, then pulled Ethan's shoulder and said, "Go upstairs and rest early."
Ethan nodded and went upstairs with Chloe and the others.
Jessie sat back on the sofa and murmured softly, "What are you planning? Ethan doesn't trust you now, and even I have doubts. Did I make a mistake?"
For the first time, Jessie doubted Matthew.
In the secret realm of Tiger Mount, Francis was still copying the ancient books of the SA Guild one by one.
When Ethan appeared, Francis didn't even look up, focused only on the ancient books.
"Why don't you bring your disciples to help you out? Wouldn't it be faster?" Ethan frowned, seeing Francis seriously copying the books.
"They have their own training. Unless they reach the master level, no one can come in," Francis explained without looking up.
Ethan couldn't help but smile bitterly. "Hearing you say that, I feel like I'm not a competent head. I'm just a Half-Step Grandmaster myself."
"You're different," Francis said calmly.
"How am I different? Just because of the Sun and Moon Beads?" Ethan raised an eyebrow.
"What do you want to ask?" Francis suddenly stopped writing, looked up, and asked Ethan.
