Chapter 407 A Strange Illness
By the seaside, in a small villa, Arnold listened to the busy tone on his phone, looking puzzled.
"What did he say?" Anna asked, frowning.
"Herong hung up! He came back to marry Lilia, but why's he so mad? Maybe he's got problems?" Arnold put down the phone, looking worried.
"What now? Ethan's powerful. If Herong doesn't help, our plan might fail!" Anna said seriously.
"How? Ethan's just a Half-Step Grandmaster. Herong should handle him!" Arnold replied.
"Let's hope. I can't believe Spencer takes a Half-Step Grandmaster so seriously!" Anna said.
"Spencer might be counting on him to deal with us," Arnold snorted.
"This safe house is good for two days max. Hope he helps us out!" Anna reminded, then fell silent.
"Ethan's info is interesting, but Angela's seems off. She can't be just a retired soldier! Check other sources!" Arnold ordered.
"Could the info from Vexa military be wrong?" Anna looked surprised.
"Better safe than sorry. I always thought their background was complicated!" Arnold warned.
Meanwhile, Ethan was driving to a palace in Norway.
It was a large estate with an imposing ancient castle. Compared to this, Eric's place was tiny!
Thanks to Lilia, Ethan's car passed several checkpoints easily. Soon, they stopped in front of the huge castle.
"Once inside, let me handle everything," Lilia told Ethan and Alice as she got out.
As Ethan and Alice got out, Herong's car pulled up.
"Are you sure about bringing outsiders to see the King? I'm here for our wedding and to treat him. We don't need interference!" Herong warned Lilia.
"They're my friends, not outsiders. Ethan's here to treat Ryan too. You're not the only one who can treat people!" Lilia retorted. She trusted Ethan completely.
"Are you kidding?" Herong looked at Ethan, surprised. He never thought Lilia brought Ethan for Ryan's illness!
No wonder Lilia was so confident, even against him. Was it all because of Ethan?
"Lilia, don't be fooled. The King's illness is special. Only I can treat him!" Herong sneered, belittling Ethan's skills.
"Don't be so sure. If there's an illness only you can treat, it means one thing—not that you're a genius," Ethan sneered before Lilia could respond.
"And what's that?" Herong asked, squinting.
"It means you caused it. Is the King's illness your doing?" Ethan said seriously, then added jokingly.
"Stop talking nonsense. Do you know the crime of slandering a baron?" Herong's face darkened, shouting at Ethan.
"Enough, Herong. If I find out my dad's illness is your fault, you're finished!" Lilia snapped, now suspicious of Herong. She wouldn't let him bully Ethan, the doctor she trusted.
"You believe his nonsense?" Herong's face twisted in anger.
"I just don't believe you!" Lilia retorted, walking into the palace.
Ethan and Alice ignored Herong and followed Lilia.
Watching them leave, Herong's face contorted with rage. "Fine, let's see you cure the King!"
Feeling Herong's murderous gaze, Ethan turned to Lilia. "Can you tell me about the King's symptoms?"
"My dad has unexplained heart pains, but no doctor or equipment can find the problem," Lilia repeated what she had told Ethan before.
"So, heart issues with no cause? How long has this been happening, and how often?" Ethan asked.
"Six months. At first, it happened several times a day, sometimes more than ten, making my dad sweat and look pale," Lilia explained.
"And now?" Ethan asked.
"Since Herong and I got engaged, he stabilized my dad's condition. Now, it happens once every one or two days. Because of this, my dad believes Herong can cure him," Lilia said helplessly.
"Herong became a baron recently, right?" Ethan changed the subject.
"Why do you ask? A month before my dad got sick, the Winston family helped the royal family financially. To show gratitude, my dad gave Herong a baron title," Lilia explained.
"So the King had contact with Herong before he got sick?" Ethan pondered.
"You think Herong made the King sick to force Ryan to marry Lilia off to him?" Alice quickly caught on.
"Could Herong really have done something?" Lilia asked, surprised.
"Not sure yet. I'll know more after examining the King," Ethan said, not jumping to conclusions.
"I bet it's Herong. How else could it be such a coincidence?" Alice snorted confidently.
"We're almost at my dad's chamber. Let me talk to him alone first. You two wait here," Lilia said, leaving Ethan and Alice to rest on a sofa as she entered the hall alone.
