Chapter 261 The Military Arrived
Indeed, Munro and Cherry attended tonight's banquet because Percival forced them to.
Deep down, Munro didn't resist the outcome too much despite his apparent resignation; it was merely a matter of dignity.
However, Cherry was still fuming over Ethan's sudden appearance ruining the marriage with the Ashford family, so she wouldn't show Ethan any kindness.
When they left home, Percival had made it clear that Munro had to attend tonight, but he didn't care whether Cherry went or not.
"Fine, I'll go. I want to see what Ethan can pull off this time," Cherry said, immediately feeling provoked and deciding to follow Munro.
In reality, she was afraid that if she didn't go, Munro might inexplicably be won over by Ethan. She was well aware of Ethan's recent actions, and although she didn't want to admit it, she couldn't deny that Ethan had some skills. If even her husband's stance was swayed by Ethan, wouldn't she be fighting alone?
"Munro, Cherry, I've been busy these past few days and haven't had the chance to visit you. Please forgive me!" Ethan greeted them politely with a smile.
"It's alright. We know what you've been up to. You can come when you're free," Munro said, looking at Ethan with a complex expression. His tone was relatively polite.
"I don't care. I haven't seen any results from your business. This is supposed to be a celebration banquet, but it's just us and a bunch of reporters. Couldn't you invite any of the wealthy and influential people from Everglow City?" Cherry scoffed, clearly wanting to embarrass Ethan and vent her resentment.
"Mom, how can you say that? We're family, and tonight's banquet involves the Miller family, too. It's not just Ethan's responsibility!" Chloe couldn't hold back when she heard Cherry speak so harshly.
"But I heard that Ethan prepared the guest list for tonight's banquet without any input from our two families. The Ashford family is behind this. Without the Miller family and the Harris family's involvement, who could Ethan invite? He's overestimating himself and setting himself up for embarrassment," Cherry retorted, her temper flaring even more when she saw her daughter defending Ethan.
Chloe wanted to argue, but Ethan stopped her, shaking his head to signal her to stay quiet.
"You are right. In Everglow City, those wealthy and influential people wouldn't know an outsider like me. They naturally show more respect to Dorian," Ethan said to Cherry, nodding in agreement.
"At least you know who you are! This banquet is nothing but a joke," Cherry said, her face showing even more smugness as she scoffed disdainfully.
"Keep quiet!" Munro felt Cherry was going too far and frowned, reminding her. After all, they were now bond together for good or ill with Ethan. If Ethan failed, it wouldn't benefit them at all.
"He didn't do a good job, and I can't say anything? Why don't you make some calls quickly? Otherwise, tomorrow's news will make the Miller family a laughingstock!" Cherry was surprised that Munro was also speaking up for Ethan and was clearly unwilling to back down.
"Alright, I'll contact my friends from the Everglow City Chamber of Commerce. If I invited them, they would come." Munro didn't oppose Cherry's suggestion and felt it was time to use his influence to invite some significant people.
"Wait, Munro. I've already discussed this with Percival and the others. The previously drafted guest list stands; those who want to come will come, and those who don't, we won't force. There's no need for the Miller family and the Harris family to step in. Neither of the Carlos and Percival is worried, so why should you be? Why not take Cherry to rest for a bit and save your energy for the show later?" Ethan stopped Munro, smiling as he reminded him.
Ethan's words took Munro aback. He glanced over at Percival and Carlos, who were still chatting and laughing, unaffected by the atmosphere, and fell into deep thought.
"A show? I think we're just waiting to see you make a fool of yourself. You always do something beyond your ability. I wait to see what you're up to!" Cherry sneered mercilessly.
"Mr. Wilson, Bennit and his group have arrived!" At this moment, Alexander suddenly ran over and informed Ethan.
Munro and Cherry were both startled.
"Ethan, did you actually invite the Walker family?" Munro asked in astonishment.
To Munro, this was unimaginable. He pondered, 'The Walker family never attended such commercial gatherings. They are a military family, all soldiers or officers, and their status is not suitable for such occasions. Why would Bennit suddenly show up?'
"A military family at a commercial banquet? So what if it's the Walker family? How much help can they provide us in business?" Cherry, suppressing her shock, scoffed dismissively.
"Just watch. Everything will be revealed soon!" Ethan smiled slightly and walked towards the banquet hall entrance with Alexander.
Soon, a group of soldiers in uniform entered the banquet hall, led by none other than Bennit. Several officers accompanied him, the lowest rank being a major.
This scene immediately livened up the atmosphere. Even if they were military personnel, they shouldn't be wearing uniforms to a commercial banquet! The reporters, who had found the banquet boring, suddenly cheered up and swarmed toward Bennit and his group.
Percival and Carlos naturally stepped forward to greet them. Although Bennit was of a lower generation, he was still a general deserving of high respect.
"Bennit, thank you for taking the time to come!" Ethan was the first to greet him with a smile.
"You always give me a hard time!" Bennit glared at Ethan angrily and then pointed to the officers he brought along. "These are the people you wanted to invite. I've found them all for you. If you don't deliver on your promises, I'll be the first to deal with you!"
"Rest assured. I'll keep my word. Please, come in!" Ethan confidently nodded and then invited Bennit and his group inside.
The reporters immediately swarmed, bombarding Ethan and Bennit with questions, but they were soon separated by the security Alexander had arranged.
"Mr. Wilson, you must explain why the military suddenly appeared at your group's banquet. Is there some secret that needs to be kept?"
"Please be patient, everyone. We will hold a brief press conference in collaboration with the Army Science Academy shortly. Everything will be clear then!" Ethan's words caused an uproar among the reporters, piquing everyone's curiosity.
Except for a few insiders like Carlos and Percival, even Chloe and Sarah were full of surprise.
