Chapter 274 Encountering with Lyra
"You gave her the position of branch manager, so how are you going to explain this to Merrick?" Munro reminded with a frown.
"I'll naturally explain it to Merrick and find another position for him. However, he still needs to help me in Novaria, so if Cherry really goes there, you will have to find another way to manage the Miller family business there," Ethan explained with a smile.
"Since you put it that way, alright then. This really is a big favor you're doing for us!" Munro sighed, feeling awkward about Cherry's unreasonable demands.
"We're all family; no need to be so formal. As long as Cherry is happy!" Ethan shook his head casually.
"Ethan knows how to talk and make us happy. Unlike some people who only know how to be harsh to their wives!" Cherry mocked with a smug look.
"Ethan just doesn't bother arguing with you, and neither do I!" Munro rolled his eyes.
"If there's nothing else, I'll take my leave. I need to adjust the appointments and arrange a new position for Merrick," Ethan said, standing up to leave.
"How do you plan to arrange Merrick?" Cherry quickly asked, her curiosity piqued.
"Since you want the branch manager position, I'll have to place Merrick at the Cloud Group," Ethan explained with a smile.
"The Cloud Group? Didn't we already acquire it? Aren't you planning to merge it with Stellar Nexus Enterprises?" Cherry asked in surprise.
"I originally founded the Cloud Group. Although Stellar Nexus Enterprises acquired it, I don't plan to merge all its assets. I will retain some core assets and then split the Cloud Group back out from Stellar Nexus Enterprises," Ethan explained calmly.
In fact, this was a spur-of-the-moment decision prompted by Cherry's unreasonable behavior.
Not only Cherry but even Munro looked surprised.
"You won't object, right?" Ethan asked with a smile, observing their expressions.
"No, the Cloud Group was originally yours. We have no right to object," Munro quickly shook his head and explained.
Cherry sat back in her chair, speechless, feeling like she had made a mistake. A newly established branch and a well-rooted Cloud Group in Novaria—there was no comparison. She hadn't expected her actions actually to help Merrick!
"If there's nothing else, I'll take my leave," Ethan said with a smile, turning to leave under Munro's complex gaze.
After Ethan left, the frustrated Cherry slammed her hand on the table to vent her anger.
"Why are you slamming the table? Things have come to this point, all thanks to you! Originally, Ethan planned to merge the Cloud Group directly into the Novaria branch. Now, it's split into two!" Munro glared at Cherry and then got up to leave.
Cherry watched Munro's departing figure, wanting to retort but finding no excuse. She could only watch him leave, feeling frustrated and sulking.
As Munro walked out of the private room, he smiled, thinking that Ethan was indeed Cherry's nemesis!
After leaving there, Ethan called Alexander and then Beverly to inform them of his recent decision. Beverly was more than happy to see the Cloud Group become independent and immediately agreed to Ethan's plan.
Finally, Ethan called Merrick to inform him about his appointment as the general manager of the Cloud Group, with Beverly as the deputy, assisting Munro, which was a pleasant surprise for Merrick, who readily accepted.
Ethan drove back to the Harris family home. While passing near the university town, he inadvertently spotted a familiar figure by the roadside.
"Lyra, I do love you. Please be my girlfriend!" By the roadside, a well-dressed young man held a bouquet of roses and pleaded with the girl in front of him.
The girl had no intention of responding to him, but the young man persistently followed her. Finally, the girl stopped, firmly rejecting him, "Hubert, it's impossible between us. Please stop bothering me!"
"Why? Is there something I'm not doing well enough? Tell me, and I'll change!" Hubert pleaded persistently.
"Please don't. Or tell me what you like about me, and I'll change that!" Lyra scoffed in disgust.
"Why can't you give me a chance? Lyra, I really love you!" Hubert's face showed a pained expression, though it was clearly exaggerated.
"I love someone else, so stop thinking about it!" Lyra just wanted to get rid of the annoying guy in front of her and said that off the top of her head.
"Impossible. I know you don't have a boyfriend. You're just trying to make me angry, right?" Hubert shook his head in disbelief.
At that moment, a car suddenly stopped beside them.
"Lyra, are you in trouble?" Ethan asked, lowering the car window and looking at Lyra.
Lyra, unsure of how to deal with Hubert, brightened up at Ethan's appearance.
"Why are you so late? Get out of the car quickly, or your girlfriend will be taken away!" Lyra said, pulling Ethan out of the car without giving him a chance to respond.
"Girlfriend?" Ethan was stunned but quickly guessed Lyra's intention—she wanted him to play along.
"Hubert, take a look. This is my boyfriend, who came specifically to pick me up. What else do you have to say?" Lyra said, intimately holding Ethan's arm and introducing him to Hubert.
Ethan's body stiffened instantly. He could clearly feel the soft touch of Lyra's embrace on his arm, thinking that if Chloe found out, she would kill him.
As Hubert saw this, his face turned sullen considerably.
"Are you really her boyfriend?" Hubert questioned suspiciously.
If it were anyone else, Ethan wouldn't have bothered with such a trivial matter. But Lyra was his sister-in-law.
"If she says so, then yes," Ethan said, nodding with a wry smile as Lyra kept winking at him.
"Alright, I understand. Lyra, since you already have a boyfriend, I won't force you. The day after tomorrow is my birthday, and I'm having a birthday party at Velvet Vortex Eatery. I sincerely invite you and your boyfriend to attend. You won't refuse my last wish, will you?" Hubert's face was sullen for a while before he suddenly calmed down and sincerely invited the two.
