Chapter 517 Shocking Clues
For Tyler and the crew, bumping into Ethan right when they were on the brink of death was like hitting the jackpot.
That Sacred wood they had? Total ticking time bomb. But they'd rather die than hand it over to their enemies. Handing it over to Ethan was a no-brainer. Plus, Ethan tossed Tyler a Vitality Vortex Pill to help him level up, which had them all feeling super grateful.
"Hey, it's just a fair trade. No need to thank me. Get some shut-eye tonight; I'm outta here tomorrow," Ethan said, heading into the inn.
Tyler and the gang gave Ethan a deep bow as he walked away. Then someone asked Tyler, "Tyler, should we crash in our rooms?"
"Nah, word's gonna spread fast. Ethan's right; Brian's definitely gonna spill the beans. Hanging around here will just cause him trouble. He's already helped us once, and we're basically strangers. We should bail tonight and find a safe spot to lay low," Tyler said, shaking his head.
The others nodded in agreement. Clearly, these six had some solid character and upbringing, and their master must've been something special to train them so well.
Back in the inn, Ethan overheard Tyler's plan and got a bit curious about the JE Guild. But the JE Guild was toast, and its leader was dead. Even if he wanted to help, it was too late. The fate of those six was in their own hands now.
Ignoring Tyler and the others who had already split, Ethan went back to his room and started checking out the piece of black Sacred wood.
"So, with this Sacred wood, you can ditch the Requiem Tower and chill there?" Ethan listened to Angel's excited voice in his ear, getting more and more curious about the Sacred wood.
"Yeah, but you gotta help me break the contract between my soul and the Requiem Tower," Angel said, cutting to the chase after her excitement.
"Break the contract? How do I do that?" Ethan asked, intrigued.
"Well, you can't do it right now; you're too weak," Angel said, sounding a bit helpless and a tad disdainful.
"If I hit the master level, can I help you break the contract?" Ethan didn't mind her sass. Being a Half-Step Grandmaster was kinda weak. Levels might not always show true combat power, but they were still a big deal when facing stronger opponents.
"Master level? You mean the Innate Foundation Establishment Stage?" Angel asked, thinking it over.
"Innate Foundation Establishment Stage?" Ethan raised an eyebrow. First time he'd heard that term. He knew master level experts were also called Dell level, which seemed like a whole new ballgame.
Looks like he needed to dig into the ancient texts of the SA Guild to get a grip on the cultivator strength rankings.
"Your current strength is Half-Step Dell, which is what you call Half-Step Grandmaster. So, master level should be the Innate Foundation Establishment Stage. But just hitting that stage isn't enough," Angel paused there.
"Master level ain't enough? Do I gotta hit grandmaster or reach the ascension stage like Arthur, the founder of the ZF Guild?" Ethan asked, eyebrows shooting up in surprise.
So, even if he found Angel's body now, it wouldn't help; her soul was stuck in the Requiem Tower for the foreseeable future.
"Ascension? That's just breaking through spatial nodes and hopping to another continent. True ascension is way beyond that. By your terms, Arthur's at best at the Golden Core Stage," Angel said, sounding all matter-of-fact, but to Ethan, it felt like a slap in the face.
Angel's words made Ethan's brain spin. Arthur had bailed from this world through the ascension channel of Tiger Mount. He might've really landed in a new world and could still be kicking.
"Golden Core Stage? There's more beyond that?" Ethan asked, curiosity piqued.
"Of course, but you can't reach them now, and there's no point in knowing too much. Besides, I've forgotten a lot. When I get back to my body, I'll spill everything," Angel said seriously.
"Alright, but from what you're saying, breaking the contract anytime soon is a no-go. Even if I find your body, you can't hop back into it yet," Ethan nodded, a bitter smile on his face.
"I've waited this long; I believe you won't make me wait forever," Angel said.
"You believe in me?" Ethan asked, eyebrows raised.
"Yeah, 'cause you're like that guy from before, and you have something of his," Angel's sudden words made Ethan's eyes widen.
"What's up?" Angel asked, noticing Ethan's reaction.
"Who is this guy you're talking about? Have you seen anyone else besides me?" Ethan asked quickly, trying to keep his cool.
"I don't know who he is, but your vibe is just like his, and one of the two beads in your gut, I've seen it before. He had one just like it," Angel explained.
"What did he tell you?" Ethan asked, excitement bubbling up. He'd hoped to find clues about Matthew in the SA Guild's secret realm but had come up empty. Now, Angel was dropping bombshells.
"He told me to wait, that someone would come to get me out soon. And he was right; you showed up," Angel's words left Ethan speechless for a long moment.
He thought, 'If the guy Angel's talking about is really Matthew, how did he know I'd end up in that secret realm? Is this all part of his plan, or can he see the future?'
Either way, it seemed impossible to Ethan. But he knew Angel had no reason to lie. More importantly, the Moon Bead was given to him by Jessie through Jayden. According to Angel, this must've happened before Jessie got the Moon Bead, meaning it was in Matthew's hands before that.
Ethan was puzzled. He didn't expect a casual question to drop so many bombshells.
"Can you see this?" Ethan suddenly pulled out his phone and found an old family photo. In it, a ten-year-old Ethan stood between Matthew and Jessie, all three grinning ear to ear.
"Yeah, that's the guy," Angel exclaimed in surprise.
