Chapter73 The Scumbag
Sarah and Mia's shopping frenzy levels quickly amazed Ethan, and he seemed to understand why Sarah dragged him along.
In just half an hour, he was already carrying more than a dozen large and small bags. From clothes and shoes to cosmetics and handbags, they didn't miss a single counter that women usually enjoyed shopping at.
So, it seemed that his only value was to be a free butler and companion for these two women?
When they were finally tired of shopping, they sat down in a cafe to rest, leaving Ethan a chance to catch his breath.
After this, he swore that he would never accompany a woman to go shopping again!
Of course, Chloe was an exception.
At that moment, Ethan noticed something not far away.
They were secretly being observed, and it wasn't by just one or two people. He squinted his eyes, thinking about the black car he had seen before.
“Sarah, Ethan, you sit here for a moment. I’m going to the restroom!” Mia said to the two of them before heading toward the cafe's restroom.
Ethan looked at Mia's figure and asked, “What does that female classmate of yours do?”
“Her? She's an executive at a travel company in Seattle, and I heard she's doing well. Why do you want to know?” Sarah casually explained, her face slightly suspicious as she stared at him.
Ethan lowered his voice and warned, “What nonsense are you thinking of? We’re being followed right now!”
“What?!” Sarah looked around in surprise, seemingly trying to locate the suspicious targets.
“Don't look around. Just pretend you don't know anything!” Ethan furrowed his brows and hushed her.
Only then did she look at him, seemingly tense as she asked quietly, “Are you serious? Could you be mistaken?”
Ethan said, “I wish I was. But with the three of us here, if we really are being followed, they probably aren’t targeting us. Instead, they’re probably eyeing your classmate!”
“How could Mia be targeted, right? Could it be that someone from QU Group found out that we’re here and sent people to keep an eye on us?” Sarah quickly speculated, gradually relaxing from her initial shock.
Ethan immediately denied, “It's not QU Group's people. This is a different group!”
“How do you know they’re not from QU Group?” Sarah asked in surprise.
“These guys are too amateurish, and it's also because you two were careless and didn't notice them. With a little vigilance, you can easily detect them!” Ethan explained lightly, but he left out one thing.
Even from the airport, Ethan had sensed that someone was watching him, and they even followed him all the way back to the hotel.
From these two groups’ behaviors, the first one was more professional, and they also followed them into the mall.
QU Group has no need to send two groups to follow them, especially this obvious second one.
Ethan wasn’t surprise if QU Group sent people to follow them. In fact, it’d be weird if they didn't!
That was also why he was hesitant to mention it.
“So, you suspect that these people are targeting Mia? But she’s just a company executive; why would they do that?” Sarah's expression changed again.
Ethan didn't respond, but instead look at her in the eye.
Sarah then noticed that Mia had returned from the restroom.
With a signal from Ethan, Sarah tried to subtly ask Mia about her current situation, but Mia didn’t seem to mention anything in her conversations.
“Have you heard anything unusual?”
“Are you still single? Don't you have a boyfriend?” After Sarah clarified Mia's personal situation, she shifted the topic to the latter’s relationships.
Mia complained with a sense of injustice, “Don't even mention it; I did date someone recently. We were in the same industry, with him working for another travel company. Later on, I accidentally discovered that he was only using my background, so I broke up with him a few days ago. However, he has been pestering me ever since, and it's giving me a headache!”
Ethan's heart skipped a beat, and he secretly gave Sarah a thumbs-up.
Sarah seemed proud as she blinked at him, then asked with some surprise, “Your background? I've known you for so long, but I never knew anything about you! What does your family do?”
Mia explained with a bitter smile, “It's nothing impressive, really. My dad used to work for the government, and most of our classmates know about it. But recently, he got transferred to the city’s Tourism Bureau and became a manager in charge of planning and development in tourist areas.”
“So, your dad is flourishing in politics, huh?” Sarah understood and teased playfully.
“He just has some power, that's all. How can I compare to you? Moreover, I was deceived in my relationship all because of this little power!” Mia sighed in self-mockery, clearly feeling the impact of the situation.
“That scumbag’s probably not just an ordinary employee of a travel company, no?” Sarah continued to dig deeper.
Mia replied resentfully, “I found out later that he's not an ordinary manager, but rather the son of his company's president! I even overheard his conversation with his father; they were both aiming for my dad’s little amount of power!”
Just then, a suited young man approached them with a large rose bouquet in hand.
As soon as Mia saw him, her face instantly darkened.
“John, how dare you come find me? I’ve made it clear already; don’t show up in front of me again! I don't want to see you!” Agitated, she immediately stood up from the couch and pointed at him.
The other customers, as well as the shoppers in the mall, turned their curious gazes toward them.
Ethan and Sarah immediately knew this man was definitely the scumbag Mia was talking about, and he was probably the one who sent those amateur spies on Mia!
“Mia, it's all my fault, and I’m really sorry. I just hope you can give me another chance because I really like you! Have you forgotten the promises we made to each other?” John, oblivious to everyone’s astonishment, kneeled in front of Mia. He gave the roses with deep affection and begging for forgiveness.
Ethan and Sarah exchanged glances, realizing that this scumbag really had some acting skills.
