Chapter 548 A Long-Planned Game

The vibe got real awkward real quick, especially for Ethan and Angela, who both felt kinda guilty. The silence between them pretty much said it all. But deep down, they both felt a little spark of joy.

"Look, we're not trying to push you or anything; it's totally your call. We just don't want you guys to miss out on something good over some dumb reasons. Angela, take a couple days off. I'll handle Bennit. You two need to talk this out. Can't hurt, right?" Norman picked up on the tension and couldn't help but laugh.

"Yeah, I think it's a solid plan. Since Ethan's already here in Everglow, he might as well stick around a bit and chat with Angela. Whether you guys end up together or not, we'll just let it be and won't meddle," Remington nodded, looking pleased.

"Don't forget, I got four wives back home," Ethan said, shaking his head with a wry smile.

"Just focus on you and Angela for now. If you can juggle four wives, one more shouldn't be a big deal. Worry about that later," Norman snorted dismissively.

"Alright, we've said our piece. What happens next is on you," Remington laughed and headed inside.

Before Ethan could say anything, Norman also turned and left without a backward glance.

In the garden, it was just Ethan and Angela, staring at each other. After Norman and the others laid it all out, neither knew what to say.

"Well, we can't just stand here forever. You brought me here, so you gotta take me out," Ethan finally broke the awkward silence.

Angela was speechless, thinking, 'You're a master-level expert. If you really wanted to leave, you wouldn't need a car.'

But despite her thoughts, Angela felt a sudden nervousness. "Where do you wanna go? The airport?"

For some reason, Angela was really scared Ethan would just leave, because she knew if he did, she'd never see him again.

"If I head to the airport now, Norman and the others might just shoot the plane down with a missile," Ethan touched his nose and half-joked.

Even though it was a joke, Ethan's message was clear: he was staying in Everglow.

Angela didn't even realize she was smiling when Ethan said that. "They really put me in a tough spot."

Seeing Angela's reaction, Ethan couldn't help but smile bitterly.

Watching them slowly disappear from the small garden, Norman and Remington, who were still spying through the window, exchanged knowing smiles.

"I told you these two had potential. You didn't believe me at first," Norman chuckled.

"Let's hope we didn't screw this up and that Ethan doesn't let Angela down," Remington nodded slowly, letting out a sigh.

"Ethan's got it all, except when it comes to relationships. Whatever, let them figure it out. How about another game of chess?" Norman seemed pretty chipper.

"Sure thing," Remington agreed, and they headed off to play chess.

Ethan was also playing chess, but he had to think three steps ahead. Norman and Remington had set up quite the challenge for him. Facing Angela, he really had to consider his next move.

Winning Angela over would be a piece of cake. Despite her tough exterior, she was totally into him. But winning her was the easy part; the real challenge would be dealing with his four wives back home and her family.

"Where are you taking me?" As Ethan mulled over his next move, he noticed that after leaving Fragrant Garden, Angela was driving straight towards Everglow.

"Home. Since you don't know where to go, I'll decide. I promised my mom I'd be home for dinner tonight." Angela blushed again. Actually, she had dinner at home every night in Everglow.

"Dinner with your family??" Ethan's eyes widened. He had just been worrying about this, and now it was happening so soon.

"It's not a big deal." Angela was both embarrassed and annoyed.

"I mean, won't your mom get the wrong idea?" Ethan explained awkwardly.

"Just don't say anything dumb, and I'll handle it. Besides, my dad likes to drink. If you can outdrink him, you won't have to worry about him," Angela offered some advice.

"I can drink, but getting your dad drunk on the first meeting doesn't seem right."

"My dad's known for his drinking. Besides, my mom's the one most likely to get the wrong idea," Angela reminded him.

At that moment, Angela's phone suddenly rang.

Seeing the caller ID, Angela's expression turned strange. It was her mom, Cynthia Phillips.

"Mom, I'm on my way home. What's up?" Angela answered the call, hesitantly.

"You're dating someone and didn't tell us? If Norman hadn't called, I'd still be in the dark." Cynthia's displeased voice came through the phone.

With Ethan's sharp hearing, he caught every word. If Norman were in front of him now, he'd give him a thumbs up. It was a perfect setup, step by step. Ethan had been planning his next move, but Norman had already thought it through.

"Why did he tell you that?" Angela almost swerved off the road upon hearing Cynthia's words. Luckily, Ethan quickly corrected the steering wheel, preventing a highway pile-up.

"Don't blame him. He's looking out for you. Is he with you? Bring him home so I can meet him." Cynthia's excited voice came through again.

"He's in the car. You'll see him soon." Angela rolled her eyes and glanced at Ethan.

Ethan sighed helplessly.
