Chapter70 The Musings of Mother and Daughter

"Miss, do you know them?" The driver, stepping out of the vehicle, cast a curious glance towards the two distressed women.

Chloe had utilized the Miller family's extensive intelligence network to gather information on Sharon after Greg's appearance. Now, confronted with the very woman she had investigated, Chloe felt an urge to deny any recognition and retreat. However, witnessing the harsh treatment Sharon and her mother were subjected to, a wave of sympathy washed over her. "Very well, just this once. I'll intervene on your behalf, for Ethan's sake," she resolved.

In the end, Chloe found herself approaching Sharon and her mother, aware that Ethan would not stand idly by if he were to witness such a scene. After all, Sharon was once his wife.

As Chloe neared, Sharon's indignant voice pierced the air. "What on earth do you want from us?"

"What do we want? Your mother is in debt to us for over three hundred thousand dollars from her gambling, and we haven't seen a penny in over a week! If we don't get our money today, you both are coming with us!" The leader of the group, a young man with a threatening demeanor, barked at Sharon.

"Mom! How many times have I warned you against gambling? Remember when you promised to quit after pawning the three pieces of jewelry Ethan gifted me? You swore you would stop! We once had a modest fortune, and now you've gambled it all away! We're being hounded for debts in the streets!" Sharon's voice was laced with despair as she turned to Gabriella.

"I was merely trying my luck. How can you place all the blame on me? I did it for your future!" Gabriella's defense only served to deepen Sharon's bitterness. How had she ended up with such a mother?

If her ex-husband had been a nobody, she could have coped. But upon discovering his true identity, instead of luxuriating in wealth, she was left with a divorce.

Now, her mother's gambling addiction had driven her to desperation.

Chloe, having overheard their conversation, quickly grasped the situation. She silently berated the mother and daughter, believing they had brought this upon themselves.

"Enough with the tears. If you can't pay up, you're coming with me. You're both decent looking, why not compensate us with your bodies?" The young man's lecherous gaze fell on Sharon, his intentions clear. He was about to signal his men to seize them.

Sharon and Gabriella's screams for help echoed through the air, their pleas falling on deaf ears.

The bystanders dared not intervene, well aware of the reputation the casino gangsters held. Ordinary people couldn't afford to cross them, so they could only observe from a safe distance.

"Stop!" Chloe's voice cut through the chaos.

"You're quite a looker, aren't you? Fancy joining me? Or perhaps you're acquainted with these two and wish to assist them?" The leader's eyes gleamed at the sight of Chloe, his sinister intentions amplified.

"How dare you! Show some respect to the lady!" The driver, having caught up, roared in fury. Before the young man could react, he landed two swift slaps across his face, leaving him stunned.

"What do you think you're doing?"

"Who do you think you are? Daring to interfere with HS Casino's business?" The young man, regaining his senses, stared at the driver and Chloe in disbelief. Sensing they were not ordinary people, he quickly divulged his affiliation in an attempt to intimidate them.

"Take your men and leave at once! If you don't, I won't just beat you, I'll bring down your casino boss!" The driver scoffed, casually opening his suit jacket to reveal a hint of a firearm to the young man.
At a single glance, the young man's eyes fell upon the gun strapped to the driver's waist. His expression morphed instantly, his face paling as recognition dawned.

"Quick, let's go!" Without a moment's hesitation, he scrambled into the car, his subordinates in tow, and they sped off into the distance.

In the wake of their sudden departure, Sharon and Gabriella were left in a state of shock. Their faces were a mirror of their gratitude towards Chloe and the driver, who had saved them from the unexpected assault.

"Tha... thank you!" Sharon finally managed to stutter out, her voice shaky but sincere as she expressed her gratitude towards Chloe.

"Don't thank me, thank Ethan instead!" Chloe replied, her face devoid of any emotion.

The mere mention of Ethan's name caused a visible shift in Sharon and Gabriella's expressions. Sharon's face was a mask of shock, her mind struggling to process the information, while Gabriella's eyes lit up with excitement.

"Do you know Ethan? What's your relationship with him? Do you know where he is right now?" Gabriella bombarded Chloe with questions, her voice tinged with anticipation.

"Why are you looking for him?" Chloe countered, her expression turning wary.

"We... It's my daughter. She is Ethan's wife. They had a disagreement before, so she wants to explain things to Ethan in person. Can you take us to find Ethan, please?" Gabriella quickly explained, gesturing towards Sharon.

"Mom, don't beg her!" Sharon's face twisted in anger. If there was someone she despised the most at this moment, it was undoubtedly Ethan. She was convinced that her current predicament was a direct result of his heartless actions.

"Are you stupid? You and Ethan are married. It's just a fight, not something that can't be resolved! Besides, we don't even have a place to stay now. Are you going to let me sleep on the streets with you?" Gabriella chastised Sharon, her voice heavy with frustration.

Chloe, upon hearing this, felt a pang of sympathy. "Alright, both of you, come with me." She offered, then turned and climbed into the passenger seat, leaving the back seat for the mother and daughter.

"Hurry up and get in!" Gabriella, elated, quickly pulled a reluctant Sharon into the car.

Chloe directed the driver to head straight to her company. Throughout the journey, Gabriella attempted to butter up Chloe with flattery, but Chloe paid her no mind. Finally, irked, she asked, "Earlier, Sharon mentioned that you pawned something at the casino that Ethan gave her. Is that true?"

"...Yes! I had no other choice!" Gabriella admitted, her voice laced with embarrassment.

"As for the item, I can help you retrieve it, but you have to tell me everything honestly," Chloe stated calmly, her gaze fixed on Gabriella.

"Don't you have a place to stay? Here are a few thousand dollars for you to find a place to live. When we arrive at my company, Sharon will familiarize herself with everything and work there. When Ethan comes back, I will let him personally resolve this matter!" Chloe casually pulled out a wad of cash from her bag and handed it to Gabriella.

It wasn't that she was overly generous, but she felt that Ethan needed to confront this issue himself. She didn't want him to harbor any future regrets or grudges.

Gabriella was ecstatic at this proposition and showered Chloe with thanks.

Soon, they arrived at Chloe's company. After exiting the car, Sharon pulled Gabriella aside and scolded her for trying to ingratiate herself with Chloe and agreeing to work at the company.

Gabriella hushed her voice and retorted angrily, "You're being foolish! We ended up in this situation because of Ethan. Don't you want to take matters into your own hands? This company might be Ethan's, not to mention that woman mentioned getting those three things back. Those are our things, don't you want them?"

Hearing this, a spark of determination ignited in Sharon's eyes. Gabriella's words made her realize that this could be her opportunity to exact revenge on Ethan!

She wasn't seeking his forgiveness, that was certain!

She was merely finding a way to retaliate!

She wanted to strip Ethan of everything and leave him with nothing!
