Chapter 277 What Is Done Can't Be Undone
As she heard Dorian's voice, Jessie trembled and snapped out of her excitement from seeing Ethan.
"I promised you I would do it. Can I look a little longer?" Jessie pleaded with Dorian.
"Don't push your luck. If we stay too long, Ethan might notice!" Dorian immediately frowned. The reason he brought Jessie to see Ethan was to prevent any accidents.
At that moment, Ethan's gaze turned towards the direction of the observation deck.
Dorian's expression changed, and he quickly signaled to his two subordinates to take Jessie away discreetly. Then he left swiftly.
"You better pray Ethan didn't notice you, or you'll only bring trouble to him!" Dorian followed behind Jessie, his face turned sullen as he reminded her.
Jessie held back her tears and remained silent. The conflict in her heart at this moment was something only she could understand.
As Dorian was taking Jessie away, Ethan felt the sensation of being watched suddenly disappear.
"Why do I feel this way?" Ethan finally remembered. He knew what that feeling of being watched represented—it was like the way his mother used to watch him play from a distance!
He could clearly feel that the end of this sensation came from that observation deck. However, as he looked over now, there were only a few unfamiliar faces, with nothing out of the ordinary!
"Ethan... what are you talking about?" Chloe asked, looking puzzled.
"Chloe, wait here. I'm going to check over there. I'll be right back!" Ethan instructed Chloe and then quickly ran towards the observation deck.
"Wait for me. I'll go with you!" Seeing this, Chloe hurriedly followed him.
However, when Ethan reached the observation deck, there were only those unfamiliar tourists, and he found nothing. The familiar feeling of being watched had completely vanished!
"Why? Why do I feel this way? Did she really appear here? Did she see me? If it was really her, why didn't she come to see me?" Ethan searched around but found nothing. He leaned against the observation deck, asking repeatedly.
"Ethan, why did you run so fast? What are you looking for?" Chloe finally caught up and urgently asked, seeing Ethan's sad state.
"I felt my mom around, but when I turned around, she was gone!" Ethan explained to Chloe, breathing heavily.
"Your mom? Didn't she disappear after that car accident? How could she be in Everglow City? And if it really was her, why wouldn't she come to see you?" Chloe was also surprised but remained more composed, thinking it was all just Ethan's imagination.
"I know what you're saying, but the feeling was so real, just like when my mom used to watch me!" Ethan shook his head in disbelief.
"Calm down. I think you miss her so much that you're imagining this! How about we go back?" Chloe looked at Ethan's current state full of concern.
On the way back, Chloe drove because Ethan was not in the right condition to drive safely. It wasn't until they entered the city that Ethan snapped out of his melancholy state.
"I'm sorry. I promised to spend time with you, but it ended so quickly!" Ethan suddenly said softly.
"There's plenty of time for us to be alone in the future. I'm more worried about you. How about we find a nearby hotel so you can rest for a bit?" Chloe suggested with a face full of concern.
"Alright, I do want some peace. Let's not go back," Ethan nodded slowly.
He was feeling so troubled that he didn't want to see too many people.
They found a star-rated hotel, and Chloe got a room for Ethan and took him upstairs to rest.
"Do you want to take a nap?" As soon as they entered the room, Ethan stood by the window in a daze. Seeing him like this, Chloe asked, concerned.
"You know, ever since my mom disappeared, I've always hoped that one day I could see her again. I've always told myself that she's definitely still alive and that one day I would find her," Ethan said slowly.
"I know you miss her a lot, but you just searched the mountain and didn't find her. Maybe it was just your imagination." Chloe comforted him softly.
Ethan gently shook his head without explaining. That feeling was something only he could understand.
"Even though I don't know where she is now, I believe that one day, I will find her," Ethan said firmly, taking a deep breath.
"If your mom knew how much you miss her, she would be very happy. She must miss you a lot, too," Chloe nodded slowly.
"Your mom wants to go to Novaria. What do you think of that? She won't tie you down, will she?" Ethan suddenly changed the subject, seemingly moving past the earlier incident.
"You're the one to promise. You agreed to be the general manager of the Novaria branch. Isn't that causing us trouble?" Chloe complained angrily.
"If I can't meet my her demands, the trouble might be even bigger," Ethan explained with a bitter smile.
"What if she wants to live with us?" Chloe pouted. She wished she could be free with Ethan in Novaria, but with Cherry around, who knew what could happen?
"That is indeed a problem, but I have a solution." Ethan nodded in agreement.
"What's the solution?" Chloe asked curiously.
"It's simple. If we do what needs to be done, she won't have any reason to object." Ethan suddenly grabbed Chloe's waist and grinned mischievously.
"What kind of bad idea is that? Aren't you afraid my mom will kill you?" Chloe blushed and scolded, but she didn't struggle at all in Ethan's arms.
"If she's really smart, she should know that stopping us from being together is impossible. And I can somewhat guess your mom's thoughts. Do you think she would watch me get closer to Sarah and neglect you?" Ethan reminded her confidently.
Indeed, given Cherry's personality, even if she wanted to take over the general manager position of the Merrick branch, she would likely try to strengthen Ethan and Chloe's relationship. After all, now that the Miller family and Ethan were in the same boat, Cherry would definitely want Chloe to hold onto Ethan tightly if she were smart enough.
"If you already knew, why did you ask me earlier?" Chloe pouted and playfully hit Ethan's chest.
"I was just looking for a good excuse," Ethan said, looking into Chloe's eyes with a mischievous smile, "Now we have a perfect opportunity. You booked the room, and it would be a waste if we didn't do anything."
Chloe's face instantly turned flushed all the way.
