Chapter46 Ore Trading Conference
“It was just a tripped fuse in the basement. Maybe something in your house short-circuited, so if this happens again, check if the fuse tripped!” Ethan brushed off the dust from his hands, reminding Hannah as they walked up the stairs from her villa’s basement.
“Thank you so much. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have known what to do. You even fixed the circuit for me! How about I buy you lunch?” Hannah was sitting on the sofa in the living room while dabbing her scraped arm with ointment after changing into a white dress.
“No need, it was just a small favor! I'll head back now!” Ethan brightened up, thinking that this woman looked quite beautiful in a dress. However, he wasn't in the mood to appreciate a beautiful woman right now; he was eager to go back and continue what he was doing!
“Wait...” Unexpectedly, despite her many hints, Ethan was still oblivious. Hannah quickly stood up and called out to him.
“Is there something else?” Ethan furrowed his brow, seeming dissatisfied with Hannah taking up his time.
“I still don't know your name.” Hannah laughed bitterly. It was the first time she had encountered a man who wasn’t immediately at her feet.
“It’s Alex.” Ethan concealed his real name. This woman mentioned that she had seen him at the villa gate before, and he didn't want to complicate matters.
“Alex... Alright then, are you interested in minerals? I’m attending a mineral trading conference this afternoon. If you're free, you could tag along...”
“How about I buy you a piece of ore as a token of gratitude?” Hannah extended an invitation to Ethan.
“Are you talking about mineral gambling?” Ethan's interest was immediately piqued.
“That's right. You seem interested, so how about I pick you up at the entrance after lunch?” Hannah noticed Ethan's hesitation and had a sudden idea.
“Do you know a lot about the industry?” Ethan was instantly intrigued as he was struggling to figure out the bead’s origins.
“I personally own a jewelry company, so I have some knowledge about gemstones!” Hannah modestly explained.
“Then, could you help me identify this bead’s material?” Ethan said as he took out the bead from his chest pouch.
“Oh, it’s blue and has a very unique texture. If it weren't transparent, I would’ve suspected it was artificial. I'm sorry, but I don’t know either! Maybe you can come with me to the mineral trading fair and someone there might recognize this!”
Hannah looked at it for a while but couldn't make sense of it. Helplessly, she returned the bead to Ethan while inviting him.
“Consider it an opportunity to broaden your horizons!” she smiled at him, hoping he’d give in.
“Here’s my number, so give me a call before you leave.” Ethan hesitated for a moment but eventually agreed, leaving his phone number with Hannah before leaving.
“What an interesting young man!” Watching Ethan return to his villa from her own yard, Hannah had a faint smile.
But soon, she remembered what had just happened and a trace of worry flashed through her eyes.
Back in his room, Ethan couldn't wait to take the bead out. It was strange how he could wear it directly on his body.
After all, it was strange for a grown man to wear a pouch.
“Hannah owns a jewelry company. I should ask her to turn it into a necklace so I can wear it,” Ethan thought, suddenly recalling his neighbor.
Shaking his head, he put that though aside and focused on the blue bead.
Just like last night, as long as he held it in his palm, he would feel a cool sensation seep into him.
Moreover, he could feel that even though the coolness had grown fainter with time, it was still flowing throughout his body.
He couldn't understand the purpose of it, but the fact that it healed his injuries overnight was mind-blowing.
Also, he felt more energetic than before, with a slight improvement in his senses and touch.
However, this improvement wasn’t very noticeable. Could it be just his imagination?
Unable to figure it out, Ethan decided not to dwell on it and continued holding the pearl.
He continued to feel the comforting coldness, eventually drifting off. Since this cooling sensation had therapeutic abilities, it must have other advantages as well. He was willing to investigate and discover this bead’s wonders long as it didn’t harm his body.
Ethan was woken up from his slumber when his phone rang, “It’s already 1?” he glanced at the time and chuckled. He felt strength surge in him, and he was revitalized, which gave him a new understanding of the pearl’s effects.
The call was from Hannah, who had already parked her car in front of his villa. After answering the phone, Ethan went downstairs without worrying about lunch; he didn't even feel hungry at the moment.
Hannah was driving a BMW 7 Series. As Ethan walked out of the villa's gate, he saw her lowering the car window and waving at him. “Have you eaten? Do you want to grab a bite first?”
She asked with concern.
“I already ate, so let’s just go to the fair you mentioned!” Ethan bluntly replied, getting into the passenger seat and fastening his seatbelt.
Hannah didn't really respond and started the car. As the car started moving, he involuntarily glanced at villa’s yard before showing a strange expression on his face. Unable to resist, he turned his head to look again.
In Jayden yard was a sycamore tree, one side of its crown grew dense and lush, while one corner had bare branches that stood out in stark contrast to the rest of the tree.
Moreover, that corner seemed to be right next to his bedroom window!
Before Ethan could examine it further, the car had already driven away. He didn't pay it much mind since he could see it later when he returned.
The mineral gambling event that Hannah mentioned was held at a convention center in Novaria’s district, with a grand setup and bustling crowd.
“Miss Collins, you’ve arrived. I've been waiting for you for over half an hour!” Just as they got out of the car, Ethan put on the sunglasses he brought as they were approached by a well-dressed young man.
Ethan noticed that this man looked at him with a hint of vigilance and hostility in his eyes.
“I got held up. Clint, didn't you say you invited Mr. Foster? Where is he?” Hannah casually asked, seemingly uninterested in explaining much to this man.
“Don't you trust me? Mr. Foster has already arrived and is in the venue. He went to help check the mineral’s qualities. Miss Collins, this is...?” Clint finally directed the conversation toward Ethan.
“This is Alex, my friend. Since Mr. Foster has arrived, let's go in quickly and not keep him waiting!” Hannah made a brief introduction and urged them to move.
Hearing this, Clint didn't ask any more questions and calmly led Hannah and Ethan to one of the exhibition areas.
“Your employee?” Ethan quietly asked her, walking by her side.
“Yes, his name is Clint, and he’s the company's vice president. He’s quite capable, but he’s also a bit of a snob!” Hannah explained with a smile, showing her confidence in Clint.
Ethan didn't ask any further despite sensing something from Clint's eyes. However, that was Hannah's business, and he didn't want to get involved as long as he wasn’t bothered.
Under Clint's guidance, they arrived at an ore exhibition area. The Mr. Foster Clint mentioned before was a man in his 50s or 60s, his attire slightly messy with a magnifying glass in hand.
“Mr. Foster, thank you for your hard work today! I’ll make sure Clint takes good care of you tonight!” After meeting, Hannah warmly expressed her thanks to the old man.
“Miss Collins, you're too kind. I already promised you that I’d do my best to help!” Jovan politely replied, before his gaze fell on Ethan and showed a hint of doubt.
