Chapter 473 Another Possibility
Watching Jessie vanish from sight, Brady squinted, a flicker of deadly intent in his eyes.
"Brady, seems like Jessie’s even more stubborn than Ethan. What was she on about just now?" Herman popped up behind Brady, frowning as he asked.
"They wanna dig up the body," Brady squinted and said coolly.
"Dig up the body?" Herman's face went pale.
"I underestimated Jessie and Ethan's grit. They wanna investigate? Fine, let 'em. I wanna see what they dig up." Brady sneered.
"But Matthew's dead for real. We checked back then, and Ethan was there too. We were all there for the burial. What’s left to investigate?" Herman frowned, totally baffled.
"Jessie and Ethan think I pulled a fast one, that the body's a fake, and the real Matthew's still under my thumb," Brady said, a hint of frustration on his old face.
"What? That’s nuts. What’s so special about Matthew that you’d go to such lengths?" Herman was even more shocked.
"Yeah, that’s what I wanna know too. Now, I’m curious about what they’ll find out," Brady chuckled, "Even if I’m getting blamed, things are getting interesting, right?"
"But why not just explain it to them?" Herman asked, puzzled.
"No point, and you think they’d believe me?" Brady shot Herman a cold glance, then vanished into the dense forest halfway up the mountain.
When Jessie got to the Shadow Gang, Chloe and the crew were already settled in.
After telling Chloe and the others to stay put and not go out, Ethan left Trevor behind and headed to the conference hall with Jessie.
"I just ran into Brady." Jessie got straight to the point with Ethan and Elmer after sitting down.
Ethan and Elmer exchanged a look but didn’t seem too surprised.
"Brady got the cold shoulder from me, so he went to you for attention. Thinks you’re easier to talk to?" Ethan chuckled dismissively.
"I told him that after the family head succession ceremony, we’re heading to the cemetery," Jessie said calmly.
"What'd he say?" Ethan asked, intrigued.
"He was a bit surprised, but he didn’t say anything," Jessie said, frowning.
"Aren’t you worried he’ll mess with the cemetery now that you’ve told him?" Elmer reminded.
"Unless the person in the cemetery is really Matthew, what can he mess with?" Jessie shook her head, unfazed.
She wasn’t worried about Brady tampering; she was more afraid he’d do nothing at all. She thought, 'If it turns out the person in the coffin isn’t Matthew, what does that mean? Will Brady admit it’s all his doing?'
"Mom, got any other thoughts?" Ethan asked, seeing Jessie deep in thought.
"I don’t know. Actually, I’m more scared of another possibility." Jessie was silent for a moment, then sighed helplessly.
"What possibility?" Ethan frowned immediately.
"You mean, Matthew might’ve disappeared on his own?" Elmer instantly got what Jessie was hinting at and asked suddenly.
Hearing this, Ethan's eyes went wide with shock.
"Yeah, if he's really still kicking, maybe no one hid him. Maybe he hid himself," Jessie nodded slowly.
"But why?" Ethan couldn't wrap his head around why Matthew would vanish, even if it meant watching the Wilson family crumble.
"If that's the case, only he can spill the beans. The truth's gonna come out soon," Jessie said, a hint of confusion in her eyes. Ever since she got back to the Wilson Villa and revisited the spot where she and Matthew had their incident, her bad feeling had only gotten stronger.
"No way, I can't believe my dad would do that," Ethan couldn't accept such a wild idea.
Jessie and Elmer stayed quiet; no one had answers for Ethan.
"Why don't we just go and crack open the coffin now to find out?" Ethan suddenly stood up.
"Ethan, don't be rash. The truth can't come out before you become the family head," Elmer quickly grabbed Ethan's shoulder, urging him to stay calm.
"Ethan, don't be reckless," Jessie shouted anxiously.
"Don't forget, besides Matthew, we've got bigger fish to fry," Elmer reminded sternly.
Ethan looked at Jessie and Elmer, then unclenched his fists, trying to keep his cool. They were right; besides Matthew's mystery, there was another big issue at hand.
"The day after tomorrow is the family head succession ceremony. All the main leaders of the Wilson family branches will be here tomorrow morning. For now, things are still under control. We just don't know if Brady's got any other tricks up his sleeve," Jessie reminded gravely.
"Brady better behave. If I catch him scheming, I'll be the first to take him down," Ethan snorted.
Seeing the growing hostility in Ethan, Elmer's eyes showed a mix of surprise and worry.
"Brady's issue can't be rushed. Let's take it one step at a time. Since we're back, we won't miss any chances," Jessie reminded Ethan.
"I'm just afraid he won't fight back. Today, I took out his men right in front of him, and he still held back," Ethan grumbled.
"Those were just small fry. They don't matter to Brady. You need to pick a bigger target," Elmer reminded seriously.
Just then, Eli, looking serious, hurried in and reported to Ethan and Elmer, "Mr. Wilson, Logan's outside, demanding to see you."
Elmer looked at Ethan. But Ethan suddenly calmed down. "You think Brady's lost his mind?"
"Probably not him. Someone's using him to stir up trouble and then sit back and watch the chaos," Jessie analyzed coolly.
"Yeah, some folks just can't sit still, always trying to be clever. But this time, they're actually doing me a favor. Should I thank them?" Ethan sneered.
The three of them knew why Logan had suddenly shown up, and it definitely wasn't Brady's idea.
"Shadow Gang's got rules. You gotta see him," Elmer seemed to know Ethan's decision and reminded him calmly.
"You guys have way too many rules," Ethan grunted impatiently and walked out.
"Let him go. Just keep an eye on him. I'll go check on the others," Jessie watched Ethan's back and instructed Elmer before heading back to the courtyard where Chloe and the others were.
