Chapter 167 A Day and Night
When Ethan awoke, he found himself in an unfamiliar room, lying on a soft bed.
Sarah was sitting nearby, half-asleep on a stool. It was nighttime, and he had slept for at least five or six hours. Recalling how he had exhausted his powers trying to protect Mr. Grant's internal organs, Ethan couldn't help but smile bitterly.
He realized he wasn't strong enough. Such a situation shouldn't happen again, or he might meet a grim fate.
"Ethan, you're awake!" Sarah exclaimed as she noticed his eyes open. Concerned, she asked, "How are you feeling? Any discomfort?"
"I'm fine! Don't worry," Ethan reassured her.
Ethan took a deep breath and then sat up.
His condition was surprisingly good.
Upon closer examination, he realized that not only had his depleted superpowers fully recovered, but they had also increased significantly!
Was this the hidden blessing from the legend? He recalled the cryptic words of his senior brother before they parted ways, and it seemed like this was what he meant by practical growth.
"I'm fine, just had a long rest. You really had me worried! The doctor said you were just exhausted and could recover with some good sleep!
Sarah couldn't help but snort in dissatisfaction upon hearing this.
"A day and night? It's already the second night now," she remarked, surprising Ethan with the realization of how long he had been asleep.
"And you?" Ethan inquired.
Sarah shot him a stern look, warning, "Next time, don't push yourself so hard. Don't sacrifice yourself when others can't be saved!"
"Alright, I promise it won't happen again," Ethan replied with a bitter smile.
Observing the modest decor of the room, he asked curiously, "Where are we?"
"This is Remington's house. After you fainted, Mr. Grant checked on you and confirmed you were okay. Bennit then arranged for you to be brought here!"
Sarah explained, "The Remington family? How is Mr. Grant doing?"
Ethan's mind shifted, and he couldn't help but ask, changing the subject, "What about Mr. Grant? How is he doing after I applied the protective layer in his body? It can only last for two or three days at most."
"After you fainted, the doctor checked Mr. Grant and found that the toxin levels in his blood had dropped significantly. His heart and lung functions had also returned to normal. Gary looked ashamed and left without saying anything!”
Sarah seemed to recall the miserable appearance of Gary, and a smug expression appeared on her beautiful face.
Ethan didn't care about Gary. He just felt relieved after hearing about Mr. Grant's condition.
Fortunately, the efforts were worth it.
"Oh, you must be hungry, right? I'll inform the maid to prepare some food for you."
Sarah said and ran out of the room. However, not long after, the door opened again, and Bennit walked in.
"Sarah said you woke up. How are you doing?"
Bennit asked straightforwardly.
"Fine. I might have exhausted too much energy before, so I feel a little weak. It won't happen again!"
Ethan got off the bed and felt a bit embarrassed.
It was quite embarrassing that he fainted while trying to cure someone else.
"Mr. Grant has indeed improved significantly after your treatment. When do you plan to continue? I'll arrange for you!"
Bennit was relieved to see that Ethan was alright. So he brought up the further treatment.
"Starting from tomorrow, I will treat Mr. Grant every other day. On the fifth day, which is also the day of Chloe's engagement banquet, since Mr. Harris asked me to reserve thirty percent, I must make good use of it."
Ethan calculated the time; there were five days left. Treating Mr. Grant on that day was the best choice.
"That's good. I will pick you up personally at two o'clock every afternoon. If I am busy, someone else will do it! I won't disturb your rest now! See you tomorrow!"
Bennit finished speaking and left the guest room directly.
Not long after, Sarah brought in a bowl of porridge because Ethan hadn't eaten anything for over a day.
As Ethan polished off a bowl of porridge, Sarah abruptly announced, "Grandpa is returning on the 14th and he wants you to come with me.”
“The Harris family? Are you certain that your great-grandfather will acknowledge my presence at this point?" Ethan inquired, arching an eyebrow as he set the empty bowl on the table.
"Previously, he would have been doubtful. However, with the recent ties to the Walker family, the situation is different. You can't imagine the lengths my great-grandfather has gone to over the years to cultivate a positive rapport with the military, even establishing a research institute to offer complimentary services. Given your association with the Walker family, he shouldn't turn you away," Sarah analyzed earnestly.
"Perhaps, but in the end, it's all because I am useful," Ethan nodded noncommittally.
"You can't say that. There's always a reason behind love or hate. Since you didn't have much of a connection with the Harris family, it's no wonder that my great-grandfather feels this way. And my grandpa and I wouldn't exploit you either, would we? If you truly believe that, then I'll just ignore you!" Sarah pouted and corrected him with displeasure.
“Can I not apologize if I said something wrong? You and grandpa are the closest people to me now. How could you think we would use you? We simply see each other as family. However, other members of the Harris family may not share the same sentiment. I was referring to the Houston Harris family. Please don't burden yourself and grandpa with unnecessary labels," Ethan explained with a wry smile.
"So, are you going to Chloe's engagement party on the 15th?" Sarah asked, looking at Ethan after a brief pause.
“Absolutely! If your great-grandfather gives his consent, I'll come with you. If he faces any challenges, then I'll go alone. Either way, I want to address this matter. Even if we can't stay together, I don't want our relationship to end in uncertainty," Ethan replied confidently. He had intended to bring up this topic with Sarah, but she beat him to it.
"I knew you wouldn't let it go. If you decide to go, once my great-grandfather approves, he will surely agree. You can trust in that completely!" Sarah's eyes conveyed a mix of emotions, yet her tone remained firm.
"Why do you say that?" Ethan couldn't help but ask curiously.
“The Harris family and the Miller family were closely interconnected among the Four Great Families, often seen as rivals but also collaborating on various business ventures. However, in recent years, the Miller family had been leaning towards forming an alliance with the Ashford family, likely to undermine the Harris family. This had led to tensions and disputes between the two families due to conflicting interests. My grandfather would certainly not be happy about this! If you could indeed dissolve the engagement between the Miller and Ashford families, he might even be overjoyed!" Sarah elaborated.
