Chapter 627 Just a Puppet
What a twist! Ethan never thought Angel would let him tap into her massive Sea of Consciousness. If he'd known this was an option, he wouldn't have stressed about taking down Kirk earlier.
But borrowing someone else's Sea of Consciousness was like borrowing their super energy—it got used up right away. Just like when Ethan lent his energy to others, it vanished quickly in their bodies.
Since Angel was always by his side, Ethan didn’t need to save this powerful spiritual force. As long as she could unleash it at the right moment, it'd be a game-changer. Definitely another ace up his sleeve!
Ethan looked at the frozen Kirk, feeling a rush of excitement. Taking down a top grandmaster was a real adrenaline rush. Even Neil, the head of Celestia Vale, had been a top grandmaster before his big breakthrough. If he could beat Kirk today, almost no one would dare mess with him in the future.
Today's win would be enough to scare everyone off! With that in mind, Ethan didn’t hesitate. In a flash, he landed eighteen rapid palm strikes on Kirk.
Kirk, unable to move, took all of Ethan’s hits. Despite his strength, he was sent flying, his body twisting in the air like a ragdoll. It looked like Ethan had shattered all of Kirk's bones with those strikes, showing he wasn't holding back at all.
''Kirk!'' A voice filled with shock and a hint of anger came from nearby. Dirk’s figure blurred as he rushed to catch the falling Kirk.
Ethan frowned but didn't chase after him. Instead, he watched Kirk closely. Just before Kirk hit the ground, Dirk caught him. But Dirk felt like he was holding a bag of mush, no bones to be found!
Dirk’s face showed pure horror as he glanced at Ethan in disbelief. He couldn't wrap his head around how a top grandmaster like Kirk could be taken down by someone at Ethan’s level.
''Kirk, you okay?'' Dirk’s shock only lasted a moment. He didn’t care about Ethan now; he just wanted to know if Kirk was alright. If even Kirk was beaten by Ethan, even with a magic circle that could trap many masters, he'd be in deep trouble.
But Kirk's face was pale, his eyes shut, and he wasn't breathing, like Ethan's strikes had really killed him.
''Looks like he’s really dead.'' Seeing this, Ethan felt a mix of relief and disbelief! A top grandmaster taken down so easily by him?
"Something's off!" Angel's voice echoed in Ethan's mind.
"What do you mean?" Ethan's heart dropped as he asked.
"The spiritual force I lent you wasn't enough to mess him up this bad, let alone kill him with your palm strikes!" Angel's tone was complicated.
"Could it be some kind of illusion?" Ethan frowned, staring at Kirk but finding no clues.
"Kirk! Kirk!" Dirk kept calling out to Kirk, but there was no response, and Dirk's face looked more and more grim.
Then, Kirk's body started to dissolve, turning into countless gray particles and vanishing into the air instantly. Both Dirk and Ethan were stunned.
Ethan thought, 'Did my strikes really have the power to disintegrate Kirk?'
"I get it now. That wasn't his real body, just a puppet!" Angel's words hit Ethan like a ton of bricks.
"What's a puppet? I just got the hang of soul separation." This was the first time Ethan had heard of a puppet. Even in the ZF knack, there was only talk of soul separation, not puppets.
"Usually, after reaching the Nascent Soul Stage, one can create a puppet. But Kirk can't be that advanced! He must've used some special technique or method I don't know about. This puppet seems more like a puppet controlled by his mind, with some of his strength but not the same physical defense!" Angel paused, then shook her head uncertainly.
Ethan pondered, 'So, to create a puppet, one must reach at least the Nascent Soul Stage. No wonder I've never heard of it before! But how did Kirk, who hasn't even reached the Golden Core Stage, manage to do it?'
No matter what, Kirk was all bark and no bite. He probably didn't expect anyone to withstand his attack and then strike his puppet. Meanwhile, Dirk thought Kirk was dead and was so scared his face turned pale.
Dirk could never have imagined that the recently dissipated Kirk was merely a puppet. Seeing Dirk's shocked and defeated look, Ethan had an idea. He snorted, acting like he didn't care about Kirk at all, "So much for a top grandmaster!" Dirk immediately looked at Ethan in fear, clearly intimidated by him.
"I can't believe I missed such a show. Luckily, I didn't really leave. Otherwise, I wouldn't have known that Kirk had mastered the Puppet Manipulation Technique!" As Dirk was contemplating his escape, a cold laugh rang out. Hugo, who had left earlier, reappeared in mid-air.
Ethan's heart sank. He hadn't expected Hugo to see through Kirk's puppet.
