Chapter 390 Already Gone
Breaking into that apartment was a breeze for Ethan. No agents or high-tech gear could catch him.
How could they know Ethan could foresee their moves and teleport?
As expected, Wade's place was a wreck, clearly searched top to bottom.
Ethan turned on his mini camera, took some shots of the living room, and headed to the bedroom.
The bedroom was even worse; the mattress was slashed, and every nook had been checked.
He moved to the bathroom, and sure enough, the ceiling was dismantled.
The hard drive hidden there was gone!
Angela waited anxiously in the alley. Despite her issues with Ethan, she hoped he'd find something useful.
Ethan had told her to wait five minutes, and he wouldn't make it a second longer.
Soon, Ethan appeared. Before Angela could speak, he tossed her the camera.
"Did you find it?" Angela asked, opening the camera.
"It's gone. If you don't believe me, check the video," Ethan shrugged.
Angela looked disappointed and put the camera away without watching.
Seeing her frustration, Ethan sighed. "Wade must've had some protection for something so important, right?"
Angela paused, then nodded. "Yes, Wade said he installed an encryption system. Only he knows the password, and it detects hacking attempts. If someone tries to crack it, the system formats all the data!"
"Then what's the worry? Without the password, the hard drive's useless to them!" Ethan laughed.
"The data's crucial to us! It's Wade's years of research. Do you know how long it would take to recreate it?" Angela snapped.
"I know. So let's get the hard drive back," Ethan agreed.
"Easy for you to say. We don't even know who has it. It could be with agents from Norway or elsewhere. They might've moved it to a secret spot. How will you find it?" Angela retorted.
"They need the password to access it. As long as Wade's with us, we can find out where it is," Ethan said calmly.
Angela fell silent. She knew using Wade to lure out the person with the hard drive was risky. Any mistake could have serious consequences, which she couldn't afford.
"Wait for me!" Ethan, seeing Angela's dilemma, texted Alice at the tea house, telling her he was fine and to drive back.
After a bit, Ethan wrapped things up with Alice and turned to Angela. "Lead the way. I want to see Wade."
"Got a plan?" Angela asked, skeptical.
"Why do you think I'm here? For a Norway trip?" Ethan shot back.
Angela took a deep breath and, surprisingly, didn't argue. She led the way out of the alley.
An hour later, Ethan was in a nondescript motel, facing a middle-aged man in his fifties.
When Angela brought Ethan in, two young men with guns eyed him warily.
"He's with us. Sit down and talk," Angela told the young men, frowning.
They put their guns away.
"Who are they?" Ethan asked, raising an eyebrow.
"They're intelligence agents, part of my team. Enough chit-chat. Wade's here. What's your plan to get the hard drive back?" Angela introduced the young men briefly and then pressed Ethan.
"Angela, the hard drive's missing?" Wade's face changed immediately, grabbing Angela and asking urgently.
"Sorry, Wade. We went to your apartment, but it was already taken," Angela said, shaking her head.
"No need to be so pessimistic. I'll help you get it back, but you have to follow my lead," Ethan said confidently.
"I'm the commander here!" Angela glared at him.
"Do you want it back or not?" Ethan retorted.
Angela deflated, slumping onto the sofa, clearly frustrated with Ethan.
"Sir, can you really get it back? That's my research of over ten years. It can't fall into the wrong hands!" Wade said urgently, grabbing Ethan's hand.
"I'm Ethan. I can get it back, but you have to trust me," Ethan assured him.
"What do you need me to do?" Wade asked seriously.
"Do you have any family left in Norway?" Ethan asked, changing the subject.
"I have a wife and daughter, but they've been sent back to Vexa. I'm the only one left here," Wade explained, puzzled.
"Good. Are you still using your usual phone?" Ethan asked.
"I threw it away. Angela said it could be tracked, but I kept the SIM card," Wade said, glancing at Angela.
"Give me your SIM card, and I'll handle the rest," Ethan said, reaching out.
"You're planning to wait for them to contact us?" Angela asked, catching on.
"I left a mark on his door when I left. Those agents will find it soon. They know we've been there, and contacting us is their only option," Ethan said confidently with a smile.
