Chapter 442 Guilty Conscience

Seeing Ethan's contemplative look, Jessie nodded. "I originally planned to wait until you took over the Wilson family before having you and Elmer start investigating this matter. Good thing you know now; it helps us plan better for the future!"

"You didn't tell me 'cause you thought I'd go off on Brady, right?" Ethan seemed to see through Jessie's concerns and asked with a smile.

"I did worry about that before. Brady's good at keeping secrets. If Elmer hadn't told me, I'd never have known he's tied up with Cross Christianity! You're right; his relationship with Herman is a mess. I was scared that if you found out, you might tip Brady off and he'd bolt!" Jessie nodded in explanation.

If she hadn't kept it a secret, Ethan might have lost his temper and questioned Brady when he came to ask them to return to the Wilson family!

It was rare for Jessie to know so much from Elmer and still keep it from Ethan. This alone was enough to earn respect and made Ethan feel even more protective of her.

"Mom, I'm not a child anymore!" Ethan looked at Jessie and said seriously.

"I understand. Seeing how mature and smart you've become, I'm really proud of you." Jessie smiled and nodded.

At that moment, Ethan's phone suddenly rang.

Seeing it was a call from Alexander, Ethan immediately answered.

"Mr. Wilson, you were right. Brady's been calling every branch family non-stop since last night!" Alexander's voice quickly came through the phone.

"I knew he couldn't resist 'helping me' arrange everything!" Ethan sneered upon hearing this.

If Brady's eagerness to have Ethan return to the Wilson family and even make him the head was to mend their relationship, it now seemed more like a guilty conscience!

The more Brady wanted Ethan to be the head of the Wilson family, the more it proved he had something to hide!

"He used several anonymous phone cards to make the calls, probably thinking he wouldn't get caught." Alexander laughed as well.

"He didn't expect you to have this capability!" Ethan said with a smile.

"I've been keeping tabs on all the branch families' numbers for a while now, even their secret ones. No matter how careful Brady is, it won't help him!" Alexander explained nonchalantly.

"Keep a close watch on them. I don't want to waste time on others while dealing with Brady. Especially keep an eye on Dashiell and those other pesky old guys. Log everything they do, down to the last detail!" Ethan commanded firmly.

"No problem. The dozens of little guys I've trained are all excited. They say it's finally time to put what they've learned to use!" Alexander readily agreed.

No matter how tough he was, there was no way he could monitor and filter key intel in real-time by himself. He needed a team backing him up.

Fortunately, Ethan had foresight. When Alexander was still in Baytown, he had him form a sizable hacker team.

That's how Alexander always managed to get info to Ethan so fast!

After ending the call with Alexander, Ethan's phone rang again before he could put it down.

This time, the call was from Brady's private number.

Seeing the number, Ethan smiled and signaled to Jessie. "Typical Brady. He waits until the dust settles to swoop in and take the credit!"

"Let's hear what he has to say." Jessie nodded, signaling Ethan to answer the call.

Ethan immediately answered Brady's call and put it on speaker.

"Ethan, do you know I didn't sleep well last night because of you?" Brady's tired voice came through the phone, clearly heard by Jessie as well.

"You're not sleeping well lately? That shouldn't be the case. As a master level, even if you don't sleep for a few days, you shouldn't be this tired, right?" Ethan smirked and teased.

"It's because I'm worried about you! I didn't expect you to start targeting the branch families before even becoming the head. If I hadn't suppressed their rebellious emotions, do you think they'd be so cooperative today?" Brady huffed.

"So, I should thank you for your help?" Ethan raised an eyebrow and asked with a smile.

"No need. I know you've never been happy with me, and I didn't expect you to be. Just next time, run it by me first. With my help, things would go a lot smoother, and we wouldn't be stuck in this mess!" Brady's tone carried a hint of reproach.

"Brady, I've always been curious. Why are you so set on making me the head? Wouldn't you rather see the branch families take me down?" Ethan asked, changing the subject.

"You're right. I pushed for you to be head so you and Jessie could come back to the Wilson family. Honestly, I don't think you're ready to take over yet. Your standing in the Wilson family isn't strong enough to be the head!" Brady admitted frankly.

"But you still agreed and are now going to great lengths to help me get what I want!" Ethan chuckled noncommittally.

"Because I don't want to see the Wilson family fall apart anymore! You're the best fit to take over right now. Heir or head, it's just a matter of time and title. You'll be the head sooner or later, so why sweat the details?" Brady explained earnestly.

"It seems you've put a lot of thought into the Wilson family. Should I be touched and give you a medal?" Ethan sarcastically mocked.

"Stop mocking me. Back to the point, when are you coming back?" Brady huffed.

"I'll be back in three days. I won't keep you waiting long!" Ethan said with a smile.

"Then I'll be waiting for you at the Wilson Manor!" Brady said and then hung up the phone.

"Brady definitely has a guilty consciencie!" Ethan put down the phone and said to Jessie with a cold smile.

"Now we can be sure he has connections with Cross Christianity. Are you confident in having your people investigate Herman's whereabouts?" Jessie asked worriedly.

"Don't worry. I've got Alexander on it. You might not know him, but I trust he won't let me down!" Ethan nodded confidently.
