Chapter 616 A Bunch of Saps

So, it wasn't just Bonnie who was clueless; even Kenneth had no idea why Ethan was hanging out at this intersection from so far away.

Sure, this was the only road to Vast Mountain, but most of these poor saps probably weren't coming back. Kenneth might be a master, but his spiritual sense had its limits and couldn't stretch all the way to Vast Mountain.

Ethan wasn't about to explain the details to these two, and honestly, he didn't need to. While Ethan couldn't check out Vast Mountain himself, Angel inside Requiem Tower could!

Down at the base of Vast Mountain, a crowd had already formed. But these groups kept their distance from each other, clearly not on the same team.

Most folks were playing it safe, watching from afar, but a few brave souls headed towards Vast Mountain. Thing was, anyone who stepped onto Vast Mountain never came back, and those waiting at the bottom heard nothing.

No one expected the ML Guild to be bold enough to kill off disciples from the hidden sects! To get the Moonhowl, the ML Guild was pulling out all the stops. Anyone from the hidden sects who set foot on Vast Mountain was as good as dead!

While others were in the dark, Angel had seen the brutal scenes on Vast Mountain and filled Ethan in. "A bunch of mortals asking for it, the strongest among them only at Half-Step Foundation Establishment Stage!"

Angel seemed unfazed by the carnage, the deaths of those ordinary warriors not bothering her at all, and she even sounded a bit mocking.

This was exactly what Ethan had expected. Since they were picked as cannon fodder, it made sense they didn't have master-level combat skills. The leaders of those hidden sects were no fools; they were powerful but valued their lives even more than the average warrior.

"Looks like the ML Guild is going all out to get Moonhowl tomorrow night!" Ethan wasn't too shocked; the Trap Circles and Murder Circles were clearly not just for show.

"Even Foundation Establishment Stage folks can't handle the Magic Circle those guys set up. Counting on them to clear the way for you is pointless!" Angel reminded Ethan.

"Is the Magic Circle really that strong?" Ethan couldn't help but feel a bit uneasy.

"Not really. If it were me, dealing with such a crude Magic Circle would be a breeze, but for Foundation Establishment Stage folks, it's a different story!" Angel snorted proudly.

"There's still time, no need to rush. As long as I don't show up, the ML Guild probably won't activate the Magic Circle." Ethan wasn't too worried.

Not to mention he had a master-level Kenneth with him, and Angel alone was enough to ensure he could move freely within the Magic Circle.

All he needed to do now was wait for the right moment to mess up the ML Guild's plans, let the remaining hidden sects hold them off, and then seize the chance to tame the Moonhowl. Getting the Moonhowl was way more important than dealing with the ML Guild.

Just then, Bonnie got a message from Patricia. "Mr. Wilson, Patricia says they've spread the word like you asked. What's next?" Bonnie asked Ethan right away.

"Tell her they're done. No need to do anything else. Also, tell the Ladies Guild to stay put and not get mixed up in this mess unless it's absolutely necessary," Ethan thought for a moment and then told Bonnie.

The Ladies Guild had helped him out, and it was the first sect he actually respected a bit. No need to drag them into this chaos. Bonnie passed Ethan's message to Patricia. Soon, Patricia's reply came back.

"Mr. Wilson, Patricia says the Ladies Guild won't come, but she will. She'll join us tomorrow night!" Bonnie relayed to Ethan.

Ethan didn't say much. If Patricia wanted to come, he couldn't stop her, nor did he need to. Whatever her reasons, it wouldn't mess up his plans. "You should head back now," Ethan said to Bonnie.

"You want me to leave?" Bonnie looked disappointed.

"The whole Vast Mountain thing isn't something you can get involved in. I don't want the Ladies Guild involved because I don't want to see any of you get hurt," Ethan explained seriously.

"But there's no danger here, right? How about I leave when you are about to go?" Bonnie clearly didn't want to leave just yet. Even knowing Ethan had a family, she couldn't help but want to stay by his side, even if just for a bit longer.

"Do as you wish." Ethan sighed, seeing Bonnie's expression.

The three of them kept watching the road to Vast Mountain, seeing wave after wave of hidden sects pass by. But the cars heading to Vast Mountain never came back. Some people would never return, while others were reluctant to leave.

Those still hanging around at the foot of Vast Mountain, despite knowing the risks, were unwilling to leave. The lure of treasure was just too strong for these hidden sects!

This went on for a day and a night until the afternoon of the second day, when the number of cars heading towards Vast Mountain finally dropped. Clearly, most of the people who were coming had arrived, and the master-level experts wouldn't act alongside their underlings.

"You should go back now," Ethan reminded Bonnie as the sky darkened.

"Are you leaving?" Bonnie asked reluctantly.

"Yeah. I can't take you with me because you'd be of no use and I'd have to look after you," Ethan bluntly reminded her. That was putting it mildly; in reality, Bonnie was a huge burden to Ethan! Given the complicated situation tonight, even if he could keep Bonnie safe, it might still mess with his own actions.
