Chapter 413 Come Clean
Ethan saw Herong's terrified face and wasn't surprised.
"I'm losing patience. Spill everything you know!" Ethan warned, clearly ready to kill Herong.
"Arnold called me. That's how I knew about you. He wanted my help to get rid of you!" Herong quickly confessed.
"So, you're in cahoots with Arnold. Small world! You must know him well," Ethan sneered.
"Not really. We're both from Torontow's intelligence agency, just colleagues. Our missions are different. He asked for my help because he had no other choice," Herong explained.
"So, your mission is to control the King and Lilia, and by extension, the royal family? Torontow wants to control Norway's royal family!" Ethan zeroed in on the key info.
"Is Torontow gearing up for the next war?" Ryan's face turned grim.
Torontow and Norway had always clashed over border issues. While there hadn't been a full-scale war, there were constant skirmishes and two intense conflicts that led to localized wars. Madryd's mediation had calmed things down.
Torontow's plan to control Norway's royal family was clearly prep for future wars.
"This is the highest level of classified info I know. I've told you everything. Can you let me go now?" Herong pleaded.
"Not so fast. You still need to do me a favor!" Ethan smiled.
"What do you want?" Herong's heart sank.
"Simple. I want to lure Arnold out. If you want me to let you go, you have to help set him up!" Ethan laid out his condition.
"I can try, but I can't guarantee he'll believe me!" Herong reluctantly agreed.
"He will. Just tell him you've controlled me and found Wade, and he needs to come personally to pick us up. He'll show up!" Ethan had it all planned.
Under Ethan's watchful eye, Herong called Arnold.
Everything went as planned. Herong explained and asked Arnold to come to the riverbank outside the palace to capture them.
Arnold, believing Herong had controlled Ethan and found Wade, agreed to come with his men.
Before Herong could say more, Ethan took the phone and hung up.
He noted Arnold's number and sent it to Alexander in Vexa.
"I've done what you asked. He agreed to come. Can you let me go now?" Herong looked hopeful.
"No problem. I'll let you go now!" Ethan chuckled, then struck Herong's abdomen with his palm.
Herong's Sea of Energy shattered, and through the pain, he glared at Ethan, shocked that Ethan would break his promise and destroy his Sea of Energy.
"I said I'd let you go, but I never said I wouldn't destroy you!" Ethan smiled nonchalantly at Herong's incredulous look.
Herong's eyes rolled back, and he fainted.
"Your Majesty, you decide what to do with Herong. I just don't want him causing any more trouble before I leave Norway," Ethan said calmly to Ryan.
"I know what to do!" Ryan nodded firmly. Given the situation, he had to side with Ethan.
The Winston family was thoroughly offended, but gaining Ethan, a Half-Step Grandmaster, as an ally was a blessing in disguise.
Plus, without the Winston family, Alice had agreed to continue funding the royal family, which was a silver lining.
"As for Torontow's plans, I'll inform your government after I leave Norway. I don't want to stir up too much trouble in the next few days," Ethan reminded Ryan.
Ryan thought, 'You had already caused quite a bit of trouble and that I had to clean up the mess.'
However, he still hoped Ethan would look after the royal family in the future and wouldn't dare offend him.
"I understand. Before you leave Norway, I promise I know nothing!" Ryan nodded and promised.
Soon, two guards, under Ryan's orders, took Herong away. Where they would detain him wasn't Ethan's concern. He trusted Ryan to handle it.
With his Sea of Energy destroyed, Herong was now a cripple. Even an ordinary person could easily subdue him, making escape from the palace impossible.
"Alice, Ethan, thank you so much for today. You thwarted Herong's plot; otherwise, things would have been a disaster!" Lilia said gratefully.
"We're best friends; no need to be so formal. But if the King could grant Ethan a title, that would be nice!" Alice said, looking at Ryan with a playful smile.
"Mr. Wilson saved Lilia and me and helped thwart Herong's plot. He deserves the royal family's gratitude and recognition. However, this matter isn't suitable for public disclosure right now. Once the Winston family issue is resolved, granting Mr. Wilson and Eric a title is no problem!" Ryan agreed after a moment's hesitation.
"What use do I have for a title?" Ethan looked at Alice, half-amused, half-exasperated. She really wanted to pile titles on him, didn't she?
"It may be useless now, but it might come in handy someday. You never know when this title could help you out of a tight spot," Alice reminded him seriously.
"Fine, you win!" Ethan said, just as his phone rang. It was Alexander calling from Vexa, indicating that things were progressing!
