Chapter 542 Raymond's Warning
Raymond laid it out, "Look, it's not just 'cause you snagged the Grail they were after, but also 'cause you're Matthew's kid."
"So, you already knew what went down in Lope Town." Ethan felt a twinge in his chest hearing that. But he shrugged it off. If Celestia Vale didn't have that kind of intel, that'd be a real shocker.
For sure, even if Celestia Vale wasn't in the Grail chase, they had to have some eyes and ears in Lope Town to get the scoop.
"So, I've pretty much figured out your questions and know what you're gonna say." Raymond nodded with a grin.
"Sorry for the hassle." Ethan felt a bit sheepish.
"After this mess, Cross Christianity's definitely gonna be gunning for you. Or, they were already planning to, and this just speeds things up," Raymond warned again.
"Bring it on. I've been bored outta my mind and need some action." Ethan laughed it off.
"You act all chill, but still, watch your back." Raymond nodded slowly.
"Looks like the answers I need aren't here. If Cross Christianity doesn't show, fine. But if they do, I'll make 'em spill the beans," Ethan said, getting up.
"Heading out already?" Raymond asked, still smiling.
"I've said my piece, and I don't wanna bug you anymore, so I'll just..." But right then, Ethan's face twisted. He felt a surge of energy in his gut, growing stronger and outta control.
"Better hang around a bit longer." Raymond smirked knowingly.
"What's happening? Am I about to level up?" Ethan was floored. He'd been trying to hold back his breakthrough, but now it was running wild.
"Remember that tea you had?" Raymond reminded him with a sly smile.
Ethan glanced at the empty teacup, feeling a mix of horror and helplessness.
"Why didn't you give me a heads-up?" Ethan shot Raymond a frustrated look.
"When it's time, it's time. Why fight it?" Raymond said seriously.
"Alright, looks like I'm crashing at your place for a bit." Ethan gritted his teeth and plopped down cross-legged, diving into meditation.
Raymond nodded, satisfied, then reached out and pointed at Ethan's head. A golden light shield wrapped around Ethan.
"Focus on your breakthrough. I got your back," Raymond said with a smile, then closed his eyes and started meditating too.
Ethan's breakthrough was a done deal, sudden but totally natural, no sweat.
Ethan felt the energy surging in his Sea of Qi, and the surrounding spiritual energy started pooling into his lower abdomen's Sea of Qi.
It was like a tiny pond suddenly getting hit with a river's flow, almost too much to handle. But lucky for Ethan, his Sea of Qi was tough enough. As the energy kept pouring in, his Sea of Qi blew up like a balloon on steroids.
When that balloon was about to pop, the energy in his Sea of Qi started to compress and condense, getting thicker and more solid. If it was like water before, now it was like syrup.
"So this is what a master-level Sea of Qi feels like?" Ethan was blown away by the changes.
"The Foundation Establishment Stage is all about converting spiritual energy. When you hit the peak of this stage, the grandmaster level, your Sea of Qi will almost solidify. When it forms a Golden Core, you'll hit the Golden Core Stage, which you call ascension," Angel's voice echoed in Ethan's mind.
"So that's the deal," Ethan thought.
The energy condensation went on for about half a day. When the last bit of energy in Ethan's Sea of Qi condensed, the breakthrough was finally done.
Opening his eyes slowly, Ethan felt like a new man. Every move he made seemed to vibe with the surrounding spiritual energy. "So this is master-level power," Ethan murmured, clenching his fist.
"Congrats on the breakthrough. You've hit the peak of the initial master level. Since you held it back for so long, the breakthrough was more intense. Now you don't have to worry about instability. Just get used to and control your new power," Raymond said, opening his eyes and smiling.
"Thanks for having my back." Ethan stood up and bowed.
"No need to thank me. In Celestia Vale, no one would mess with your breakthrough. I was just a backup plan," Raymond nodded with a smile.
'My Sea of Consciousness has expanded tenfold. If I knew breaking through was this awesome, I wouldn't have held back so much.' Ethan realized his Sea of Consciousness had expanded tenfold and was stoked.
"You look pretty hyped," Raymond said, surprised.
"Just broke through, how can I not be? By the way, can I spar with you?" Ethan suddenly got an idea and asked Raymond for a match.
Raymond's face got even more curious. Even though Ethan had hit the master level and was at the peak of the initial stage, Raymond was a true grandmaster.
Raymond couldn't help but ask, "You serious?"
Ethan asked earnestly, "I know it's kinda sudden, but please give me a shot to test my skills. Even if I can't beat you, at least I'll know the gap between me and a grandmaster."
