Chapter 316 Jesse's Persistence

Jesse was hanging on by a thread. If it weren't for Ethan, he'd be dead already.

Ethan walked into the next room and saw Jesse sprawled on a big bed, surrounded by a swarm of medical staff. Clearly, Robert had called them in after Ethan passed out.

"Mr. Wilson, are you okay?" Robert asked, shocked to see Ethan looking as calm as ever.

"Mr. Torres, are you disappointed I'm not hurt?" Ethan shot back with a forced smile, eyes locked on Robert.

"Of course not! I want you to be fine. I brought this guy back last night when I saw you were going to save him. Got doctors to look after him. It's a miracle he's still alive!" Robert, looking flustered, quickly shifted his gaze to Jesse.

"You dodged a bullet this time. He's got powerful friends. If he died here, you'd be in deep trouble!" Ethan's words were blunt.

Robert's face fell. He thought, 'Why am I caught up in this mess?'

"Relax, as long as he doesn't die, you're in the clear. Tell everyone to leave; I'll handle it," Ethan said, patting Robert's shoulder.

Robert didn't waste a second. He thanked Ethan and ushered everyone out.

"What a hit! Even a Half-Step Grandmaster couldn't survive that!" Ethan muttered, staring at the sunken handprint on Jesse's chest. He wondered if he could've survived such a blow.

If it weren't for Ethan, Jesse would be dead. Ronald had shown up the night before, and Jesse had taken the hit meant for Ethan.

Ethan owed him his life.

"Your fate isn't sealed yet. Remember that, and don't come after me again," Ethan whispered, maybe to Jesse, maybe to himself, as he placed his hand on Jesse's chest and transferred what little energy he had left.

Chloe, Sarah, and Robert waited outside for about two hours before the door finally opened.

"Mr. Wilson, is he okay?" Robert asked, rushing forward.

"With me here, how could anything happen to him? Relax, your crisis is over too," Ethan said, understanding Robert's anxiety and wanting to put him at ease.

Hearing this, everyone followed Ethan back into the room. Jesse, lying on the bed, looked much better. The sunken area on his chest had completely healed, and he seemed like a normal person again.

Everyone was amazed by Ethan's medical skills, their eyes filled with admiration.

"I never knew Mr. Wilson's medical skills were so miraculous! Bringing someone back from the brink of death like that is nothing short of a miracle!" Robert exclaimed.

"Is he really okay now?" Sarah asked, surprised.

"His life is saved, but the internal injuries are still there. I used up too much energy last night and can't help him fully recover. He'll have to heal slowly on his own," Ethan explained calmly.

He was telling the truth. Saving Jesse had nearly drained him. If he had pushed any further, he might have passed out himself.

"You should rest and recover," Chloe said with concern.

"Yeah, I'll practice here. You all should leave and not disturb me. I'll be out by nightfall," Ethan instructed.

Though Chloe and Sarah were reluctant, they complied with Ethan's wishes, knowing they couldn't help.

Sitting on the sofa, Ethan glanced at the still-unconscious Jesse and took out the Sun and Moon Beads.

'Damn Larry, if it weren't for him, things wouldn't have gotten this bad! I wonder if those last two punches finished him off?' Ethan thought, feeling the faint energy within the beads and deepening his resentment towards Larry.

Ethan closed his eyes and began to restore his strength.

He didn't know how much time had passed when some noise from outside woke him. The sky was completely dark. Fortunately, after a day's rest, his energy had recovered to about sixty or seventy percent. Another day, and he should be back to eighty or ninety percent.

"Did you save me?" Jesse, now awake, turned his head and stared at Ethan.

"Of course. You knew what the deal was," Ethan replied with a nod.

"Thank you. I will repay you someday," Jesse promised, showing his gratitude.

"No need for repayment. Just don't come after me for the Sun and Moon Beads anymore," Ethan said, shaking his head.

"Sorry, Ethan, I can't promise that. I came here for the Sun and Moon Beads. I must complete the task given to me by my master." Any goodwill Ethan had felt towards Jesse instantly vanished.
