Chapter 585 Phoenix Seriously Injured
Norman nodded and said, "You know, the country has been thinking about how to handle these hidden sects for a while now. But with our weak national power and other issues, we couldn't come up with a solid plan to deal with this hidden threat."
"Isn't this the perfect chance? Think about it. If I don't jump in now, you might not get another shot at this!" Ethan chuckled.
"Yeah, you're right. But are you sure about this? You're the one taking the biggest risk here." Norman's eyes showed a mix of relief and worry. Andrea, Vincenzo, and the others looked concerned too, realizing the weight on Ethan's shoulders.
"I'm just targeting the ML Guild, not declaring war on all the hidden sects. I don't need your help. Just stay out of my way, and I'll handle it," Ethan said, feeling like he was being set up again.
"You're making it sound too simple. Haven't you wondered why, even though Celestia Vale is on our side, we don't let them wipe out the hidden sects?" Norman's face grew more serious.
Ethan frowned, thinking, 'Yeah, why doesn't Celestia Vale take care of these hidden sects? And why don't these sects seem to care about Celestia Vale? Like when Seth, a late-stage master, attacked Matteo without any hesitation, breaking Celestia Vale's rules. It's like these rules don't matter to them at all.'
The more Ethan thought about it, the more he realized how mysterious these hidden sects were. Maybe he only knew a fraction of the truth, and there were powerful groups behind the scenes, possibly strong enough to challenge Celestia Vale, which was why they acted so boldly.
"I won't say more; you can probably guess. These hidden sects seem independent, but who knows which ones are secretly connected? Some might just be fronts for even more hidden groups. Have you thought about how much of a facade the ML Guild might be?" Norman reminded him seriously.
Ethan went silent; he hadn't thought about it that way. Just then, his phone rang, breaking the tense atmosphere in the room.
Ethan pulled out his phone and frowned when he saw the caller. It was Trevor. He wouldn't call without a reason, and if he did, it had to be about Celestia Vale.
"I'll take this outside," Ethan said, glancing at Norman.
"No need; take it here," Norman replied.
Ethan shrugged and answered the call right there. "What's up?" he asked, frowning.
Ethan's face turned from surprise to downright grim.
Without speakerphone, only Angela, with her sharp hearing, could catch the conversation. The rest of the group was clueless about what Ethan was hearing. Angela's face mirrored Ethan's growing seriousness.
Ethan responded a couple of times and then hung up, looking straight at Norman. "I was just wondering if these hidden sects were as bad as you said. Well, reality just gave me a clear answer."
"What happened?" Norman asked, his voice low and concerned. It was obvious the call was about the hidden sects, and it wasn't good news.
"A few days ago, Celestia Vale's Raymond and Phoenix went to the northwest border to deal with an external enemy. Both sides took hits, and it was a stalemate. But then someone ambushed and seriously injured Phoenix," Ethan explained quietly.
"Phoenix got hurt? Who ambushed him?" Norman asked, shocked.
"According to Celestia Vale, the attacker was from a hidden sect in Vexa, a master-level expert who teamed up with the external enemy to ambush our people and succeeded," Ethan said, clenching his fists.
Even though he didn't have much love for Celestia Vale and saw them as rivals in some ways, he respected Phoenix, who had often helped him. He didn't say it, but he remembered those favors.
"A hidden sect? How could they team up with external enemies?" someone exclaimed, clearly shocked by the news.
They were still debating whether to act against the hidden sects, and now this happened in the northwest.
"You'll have to ask them that! Are we still planning to sit here and talk?" Ethan asked, squinting at everyone with a hint of frustration.
"What's the situation in the northwest?" Norman, more concerned about the front line, asked urgently.
"Phoenix is injured, so Raymond is struggling alone. The enemy broke through a gap, but Celestia Vale's reinforcements quickly sealed it. For now, things are stable, but it's unclear how many enemies have infiltrated." Ethan's eyes flashed with a hint of anger. He felt these people were definitely connected to Cross Christianity and likely targeting him.
"That's good. If there are infiltrators, they'll show themselves eventually. We'll find and eliminate them. How is Phoenix now?" Norman sighed in relief and asked with concern.
"Not sure yet; he's been taken to a safe place for treatment." Ethan shook his head.
"Norman, it seems that even if we don't act, the other side can't wait to make a move. Should we still hold back?" Remington asked Norman.
"Alright, it's time to take action. This time, you lead the charge. Test the waters with this ML Guild, and remember to be cautious," Norman sighed and seriously advised Ethan.
