Chapter 516 Ethan's Trade

"I'm Ethan Wilson. Go tell your boss it was me who swiped the item. If he's got a problem, he can come see me himself." Ethan finished talking and bam, he was right in front of Brian.

The teleportation trick he pulled off was so freaky, Brian almost jumped out of his skin.

"Here, take it! Just let me go!" Brian, shaking like a leaf, tossed the Sacred wood to Ethan. He figured his life was worth more than some piece of wood.

"Get your crew and scram!" Ethan wasn't in the mood to deal with these clowns. A little scare was enough.

As for the so-called big-shot leader of the ML Guild, Ethan just chuckled. If anyone had the guts to come after him, he'd love to see who it was.

Once Brian and his gang took off, the five who had bailed earlier came back. Seeing Tyler was okay, everyone let out a sigh of relief.

Ethan gave the six of them a once-over and decided to play hero a bit longer. He walked up to Tyler with a silver needle. "Your injuries aren't too bad, but the poison's a pain. If we don't handle it now, it could get ugly." As he spoke, he jabbed the needle into Tyler's chest, sending a wave of energy to flush out the poison.

In no time, Ethan had cleared the poison from all six of them, and they were all super grateful.

"Why'd they want to jack this thing?" Ethan asked, eyeing the black, fist-sized piece of wood. It looked tough, but nothing special.

Tyler and the others exchanged weird looks.

"You don't know what Sacred wood is for?" Tyler asked, surprised.

"Nope, clue me in," Ethan said, shrugging.

"This Sacred wood is like, soul food. It boosts your spiritual power big time. Might not mean much to regular fighters, but for master-level folks, it's gold," Tyler explained.

"Soul food, huh? You mean it juices up your spirit?" Ethan was intrigued.

"Yeah, pretty much. It cranks up your spiritual power. This piece belonged to Jack, the JE Guild leader, but..." Tyler's fists tightened, and he looked down, unable to continue. The others looked just as bummed.

Ethan pieced it together. "This thing must've caused you a lot of grief, huh? Is your leader still around?" Ethan sighed.

"He died saving us. The six of us barely made it out, but now we're being hunted by a bunch of Guilds. Everyone wants this Sacred wood." Tyler's fists clenched, his eyes burning with anger.

Ethan was at a loss for words. He looked at the Sacred wood in his hand and tried to give it back.

"Ethan, you saved our butts today. We got nothing to repay you with, so please, take this Sacred wood as a thank you," Tyler said, hesitating for a moment but speaking from the heart.

"I'm not like those guys; I don't take what's not mine." Ethan shoved the Sacred wood back into Tyler's arms.

Just then, Angel's voice popped into his head. "Sacred wood is awesome. Can you snag it for me? I wanna use it to boost my spirit." Ethan felt a wave of frustration. He had just turned it down, and now she wanted it. "Couldn't you have spoken up a second earlier?" Rolling his eyes, Ethan looked at Tyler again.

"We respect your honesty. Is there anything else we can do for you? If it's within our power, we won't say no," Tyler said, noticing Ethan's gaze.

"Well, I wanna make a deal." Ethan felt a bit awkward, but for Angel's sake, he had to go through with it.

Tyler and the others exchanged confused looks.

"I'm interested in the Sacred wood, but like I said, I don't take what's not mine. I wanna make a fair trade," Ethan explained seriously.

"No need. If you really need the Sacred wood, we're happy to give it to you." Tyler handed the Sacred wood back to Ethan.

This time, Ethan didn't refuse. As he thought about what to offer in return, he remembered the Vitality Vortex Pill he had recently scored.

"Your Guild got wrecked, and I know you wanna bounce back. I have a Vitality Vortex Pill here. If you take it, you can jump from Half-Step Grandmaster to master level pretty quick. It should help you guys stay safe. Whether you can rebuild the JE Guild later is up to you. Think of this pill as a shot at hope." Ethan pulled out the Vitality Vortex Pill and handed it to Tyler.

He had planned to give the pill to Zephyr to save himself some hassle, but it seemed Tyler needed it more now. It might not be as valuable as the Sacred wood, but it was what they needed most at the moment.

"Vitality Vortex Pill?" Tyler and the others' eyes went wide.

"Take it. Consider it a fair trade. Keeping the Sacred wood might bring you more trouble. You can spread the word that it's with me. Other Guilds might back off." Ethan smiled and nodded.

"That won't do. We can't be ungrateful." Tyler shook his head, refusing. They could accept the trade, but they couldn't betray Ethan.

Ethan smiled and nodded, feeling a growing respect for Tyler.

"Even if you don't say anything, Brian will probably blab when he gets back." Ethan didn't dwell on it. He was glad to have gotten the Sacred wood and felt he had done the right thing. It was a solid ending.
