Chapter 310 Surrender
Billy heard Ethan's response, furrowed his brow for a moment, then nodded. The guy was sharp.
If Billy knew who Ethan really was and got a sense of his personality, he'd realize that making some concessions was the smart move. Pushing too hard would just backfire.
"Alright, it's settled. Once we pick the first company, I'll let you know," Billy said with a smile.
"No problem. Mr. Hill, anything else?" Ethan asked, feeling pretty good about Billy's easygoing attitude. Not every general was as tough as Bennit, who always hid behind military rules. Future collaborations might not be so bad.
"That's it. Just wanted to inform you. You can get back to work; I'll head out now," Billy said, standing up to leave.
"Alright!" Ethan stood up, shook Billy's hand, and watched him go.
Not long after, Robert walked in.
"Done talking?" Robert asked with a cheerful grin.
"Mr. Torres, you trying to mess with me now?" Ethan stayed on the sofa, still fiddling with the document Billy had given him.
Robert's eyes darted to the booklet. Seeing the shiny gold letters, his pupils shrank.
"Mr. Wilson, you're joking. Even though I'm the governor, I still have to follow orders from above. Mr. Hill is the garrison commander of Novaria and ranks half a level higher than me. If he has plans, I have to go along," Robert said with a bitter smile.
"I'm just messing with you! By the way, I remember you always had a good relationship with the Wilson family," Ethan chuckled, casually slipping the document into his pocket, and then changed the subject.
"As the governor of Novaria, I can't get tangled up with any family. I'm loyal to the country!" Robert's heart skipped a beat, and he quickly explained with a forced smile.
Ethan found Robert's cautious demeanor amusing. Just as he thought, with the military backing him, Robert wouldn't dare to be too bold, even if he had any plans to team up with the Wilson family. He wouldn't even hint at it in front of Ethan.
"Mr. Torres, you're diligent and people-oriented. The folks in Novaria are lucky! I live here now, so I'll need your help in the future," Ethan said with a smile.
"Of course. If you need anything, just let me know. If it's within my power, I'll do my best to help," Robert quickly assured.
"Don't worry, Mr. Torres. I won't put you in a tough spot since you're so kind to me. Just remember what you said!" Ethan was quite satisfied with Robert. After meeting with Billy, any doubts he had before coming were completely gone.
"Absolutely!" Robert nodded eagerly.
"Alright, it's your birthday party today. I didn't bring a gift, but it wouldn't feel right not to give you something," Ethan said, standing up and putting on a formal air.
"Mr. Wilson, please, your presence is the best gift I could ask for! Gifts aren't necessary; having you here is more than enough," Robert said quickly, clearly nervous.
"Don't worry about it. Since I'm here, I should give you something. Have you been feeling irritable, short of breath, and having trouble sleeping lately?" Ethan asked with a smile.
"I've heard about your amazing medical skills, Mr. Wilson. You can tell just by looking?" Robert asked, eyes wide with surprise.
"It's a minor issue. I won't give you rare treasures or tonics. If you don't mind, lie down on the sofa, and I'll treat you. You'll sleep like a baby tonight," Ethan said, getting ready to start.
"Nothing would make me happier! Thank you so much, Mr. Wilson!" Robert said, overjoyed, and quickly lay down on the sofa.
At Robert's level, rare treasures didn't matter much. The older you get, the more you fear death and crave good health.
Meanwhile, on a hillside outside the governor's mansion, two figures appeared, staring at the brightly lit mansion.
"Ronald, why are we here? It's crowded and not a good place to make a move," Larry asked, confused.
"It's because of Jesse. With so many people, Jesse won't show up inside the mansion. He might not even be here, making this the perfect time," Ronald explained, gritting his teeth.
"Are you going to act personally?" Larry asked, intrigued.
"No, it's too close to Emerald Valley. If I act, it might raise alarms. You have to do it," Ronald said, shaking his head.
"But what if Jesse shows up?" Larry asked, worried.
"Just go. With your Half-Step Grandmaster strength, you can handle these ordinary folks. Grab the item and leave immediately. And don't kill Ethan, or we'll have trouble. If Jesse shows up, he can't blame me for being ruthless," Ronald said, eyes narrowing with a cold gleam.
"You mean... if Jesse shows up, then..." Larry made a throat-slitting gesture.
"Exactly. Once we get those two pearls, we'll have the power to counter Celestia Vale. Then, I won't fear them anymore," Ronald sneered.
Moments later, Larry sneaked towards Robert's mansion under the moonlight.
