Chapter 535 A Kiss from Angela
Seeing Ethan's cheeky grin, Angela's face turned beet red. Lucky for her, it was dark enough to hide it.
"Alright, alright, you close your eyes first," Angela stammered, finally deciding to go through with the bet.
"Sure thing, but no funny business," Ethan laughed and shut his eyes.
Angela took a deep breath, puckered up, and leaned in for a quick peck on his cheek. But, surprise surprise, her lips landed on his.
Ethan had turned his head at the last second, and they ended up kissing on the lips. Angela's eyes went wide, and she shoved him away with a yelp.
"Ethan, you jerk!" Angela stomped her foot, furiously wiping her mouth, glaring at him like he was the devil.
"It's just a kiss," Ethan shrugged.
"I was supposed to kiss your cheek, not your lips!" Angela was on the verge of tears.
"Alright, alright, do you still want the Grail or not?" Ethan quickly changed the subject.
"Of course I do! Hurry up and take me in," Angela snapped, glaring at him.
"Let's roll." Ethan used his phone's light to guide them to the tall door. Inside, it was spacious but empty, not a trace of the Grail.
"Where's the Grail? Didn't you say it was here?" Angela was flabbergasted. She'd gone through all that for nothing?
"Chill, it's buried underneath," Ethan rolled his eyes and reached out towards the center.
The Sun and Moon Beads appeared, spinning and whipping up a strong wind. The ground in front of them caved in, revealing a hole.
Angela watched in awe as a golden cup, about the size of a wine bottle, floated out of the black hole, glowing faintly yellow.
With a wave of his hand, the cup flew into Ethan's grasp, and the Sun and Moon Beads vanished into his body.
"Is this the Grail?" Angela snatched it from Ethan, examining it closely. But it just looked like a fancy metal cup to her.
"Don't act clueless. Do you even know how to use it?" Ethan asked, a bit annoyed.
"Do you?" Angela shot back, surprised.
"Try putting some super energy into it," Ethan suggested.
Angela took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and carefully channeled her super energy into the cup. Instantly, the Grail glowed golden, lighting up the whole empty temple.
"It lit up, but what's it for? A fancy flashlight?" Angela's comment made Ethan's eye twitch.
"If you don't get it, don't talk nonsense. Hand it over!" Ethan rolled his eyes and held out his hand.
"What are you gonna do with it?" Angela quickly hid the Grail behind her, eyeing Ethan suspiciously.
"I've got my reasons. I'll give it back when I'm done. You think I'm gonna run off with it?" Ethan said, looking a bit exasperated.
"Tell me what you're planning first," Angela insisted.
"I need it to find someone. That's all you need to know. Remember, you can report everything that's happened so far, but my personal stuff stays off the record," Ethan reminded her seriously.
"Why make it complicated? Can't we just leave with the Grail?" Angela was getting anxious. They had the Grail; mission accomplished. She wasn't about to let Ethan take it on some wild goose chase.
"Alright, let me put it this way: do you want me to knock you out and leave you here while I finish my business, or will you give me the Grail now and we leave together?" Ethan warned, looking a bit helpless.
"Do you even know what you're doing? This is our mission," Angela stared at him, horrified.
"Wrong, this is your mission, not mine. I'm just helping you out. You should be thanking me," Ethan reminded her.
Angela was speechless. He had a point.
"Now, make your choice," Ethan said calmly.
"Here you go." Angela hesitated but reluctantly handed the Grail to Ethan. She really didn't want to get knocked out. She knew he could do it.
"That's better!" Ethan grinned, and the Grail suddenly vanished from his hand.
"Where'd it go?" Angela asked.
"It's on me. Wanna search me?" Ethan teased.
"Forget it, let's just get out of here," Angela said, clearly frustrated.
"Close your eyes, I'll get us out." Ethan nodded.
A few seconds later, they were back in the desert. If everything that had just happened wasn't so real, Angela would've thought it was a dream.
"I'm curious. How did these people know there was a relic near Lope Town?" Ethan looked towards Lope Town, smiling.
"Maybe from ancient books or maps," Angela suggested calmly.
"How'd you know?" Ethan raised an eyebrow.
"According to our intel, a month ago, a merchant found a treasure map in an old painting. Somehow, the news got out, and the merchant was killed. The map vanished."
"That's interesting. From what I know, Cross Christianity was the first to arrive in Lope Town. The others showed up a day or two later. Looks like the map ended up with Cross Christianity," Ethan nodded.
Angela frowned, "Who are you looking for with the Grail?"
"You don't need to know. Just stick with me, and I'll keep you safe," Ethan said, starting to walk towards Lope Town.
Angela watched Ethan's back with a complicated expression and reluctantly followed.
