Chapter 590 Ethan Without Status
"Camila, did you miss me?" Ethan asked, hugging her tight and planting a big kiss on her cheek. He couldn't even remember the last time he saw her.
"Yeah, I did. You brought back another beautiful girl." Camila nodded, her big curious eyes now locked on a very confused Angela.
Angela blushed, and Ethan looked a bit embarrassed too.
"See what you've done? Even Camila's teasing you now." Chloe laughed from the side, giving Ethan a hard time.
"You've got some nerve showing up after so many days," Sarah said, walking out of the villa with her hands on her hips, clearly not pleased.
"I've been busy, you know?" Ethan said, looking all kinds of guilty.
"Busy chasing girls, more like. Come on, ladies, let's head inside and chat. Leave him be," Sarah said, pulling the still-nervous Angela along and leading everyone into the villa.
"Daddy, I wanna play with them too," Camila said, wriggling out of Ethan's arms and running inside, leaving him standing there.
"Great, even my own kid's ditching me. Guess I'm losing my place around here." Ethan sighed and quietly followed them into the villa. Knowing Jessie was in the kitchen making lunch, he headed straight there.
"You're back," Jessie said, not even turning around from the sink where she was washing veggies.
"Yeah, I'm back," Ethan replied, feeling awkward.
"Got anything to say for yourself?" Jessie still didn't look at him, focused on her task.
"What can I say? It is what it is. Whatever you wanna say, I'll listen," Ethan said with a helpless smile.
Jessie finally turned to glare at him, snorting, "What should I say? Congrats on bringing home so many daughters-in-law?"
Ethan rubbed his nose, too embarrassed to reply.
"Don't worry about me. I'm used to your nonsense. Just focus on making them happy," Jessie said, seeing his embarrassment and deciding to let it go.
"You're the best!" Ethan sighed in relief, grinning.
"Cut the crap. I don't have time to baby you. There are plenty of daughters-in-law needing my attention. You're not even on the list," Jessie said, pushing him out of the kitchen. "I'm busy here. Go hang out with your wives."
Ethan shook his head with a wry smile and went back to the living room, only to find it empty. Chloe and the others had taken Angela upstairs to show her the rooms.
Luckily, the villa had enough rooms; otherwise, Ethan would be in a real pickle with such a big family. Seeing Chloe and the others quickly warm up to Angela, he finally felt a bit of relief.
Angela, on the other hand, was feeling a bit overwhelmed. Chloe and the others were way more enthusiastic than she had expected. She had braced herself for some cold shoulders, but this was a total surprise.
More importantly, it was her first visit, and she hadn't even met Jessie yet. She thought it was a bit rude to pick a room and settle in without saying hi to her.
Not long after, Jessie finished up in the kitchen, took off her apron, and headed upstairs, ignoring the bored Ethan lounging in the living room.
Ethan chuckled to himself. It looked like the big meeting was finally happening.
When Jessie arrived, Chloe and the others were in an empty room, chatting about how to decorate Angela's space. Angela, the owner of the room, seemed a bit lost. Even if she wanted to chime in, she couldn't get a word in edgewise.
Jessie showed up at the door, smiling at the group. "Are you decorating Angela's room or your own? Have you even asked her what she wants?"
"We got too excited and forgot," Sarah said, sticking out her tongue and giving Angela an apologetic look.
Angela didn't mind their excitement. But as soon as Jessie walked in, she got pretty nervous. "Nice to meet you, Mrs. Jessie Wilson," Angela greeted Jessie, her voice shaky.
"Don't call me that. Since you're with Ethan, call me Mom like everyone else," Jessie said, taking Angela's hand with a warm smile.
"Mom," Angela finally managed to say after a long pause, meeting Jessie's expectant gaze. Though it felt surreal, Jessie's kindness helped Angela relax a bit.
"That's a good girl. You're part of our family now. No need to be so formal. Lunch will be ready soon. Chat for a bit and then come down to eat," Jessie said, nodding in satisfaction before leaving the room.
Angela let out a long breath. When she turned around, she saw Chloe and the others grinning at her.
"Why are you all staring at me?" Angela asked, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"How was it? Nervous meeting Mom for the first time?" Sarah asked, grabbing Angela and laughing.
"Nervous? Yeah, a little. But Mrs... Mom seems really nice," Angela said, almost calling Mrs. Jessie Wilson but catching herself just in time.
"Calling her Mom feels weird at first, right? Don't worry, you'll get used to it in a few days. We all went through this," Chloe said with a laugh.
"Thanks for accepting me. But I'm curious, aren't you mad that Ethan brought me back?" Angela asked, feeling touched by their sincerity and Camila's easy acceptance of her.
