Chapter 372 Encountering A Shrew
When Ethan got back to the Miller estate, Percival told him that Sarah, Chloe, Hannah, and Jessie had taken Camila to Elm Street for some shopping.
"They went out alone?" Ethan asked, feeling a bit uneasy about the group going out by themselves.
"Don't worry. I arranged for someone to keep an eye on them. If anything happens, they'll call," Percival reassured him with a smile.
"Good to know," Ethan said, feeling more relaxed. Just then, his phone rang. It was Chloe.
"Chloe, aren't you out shopping with my mom? What's wrong?" Ethan asked as soon as he picked up.
"Are you back? Can you come to the Velvet Jewelry Store on Elm Street? We're all here," Chloe said, sounding a bit off, which made Ethan frown.
"Is there a problem?" Ethan quickly asked.
"There's an issue, but if you're busy, we can handle it," Chloe replied, not giving much detail but sounding like it wasn't too serious.
"I'll be there in a few minutes!" Ethan said and hung up.
Velvet Jewelry Store was the biggest and most successful jewelry store on Elm Street, known for its high prices.
Jessie was thinking about what gift to get Camila. Clothes seemed too ordinary, so she decided on a necklace from the jewelry store.
While they were looking at a necklace, a middle-aged couple walked in. Daniel Taylor, who looked like a nouveau riche with his large gold watch, and his heavily made-up wife, Shirley Wright.
Daniel's eyes lingered on Sarah, Chloe, and Hannah, which made Shirley angry.
"Camila, try it on," Jessie said, putting the necklace around Camila's neck. "It looks great. Do you like it?"
"Anything Grandma gives me, I like!" Camila said with a big smile, already knowing how to make her grandma happy.
"I want this necklace. I'll buy it for my baby!" Shirley said, causing trouble and acting like Jessie and the others didn't exist.
"What do you mean you want it? Can't you see it's in our hands?" Sarah, the most fiery of the group, snapped back.
Sarah couldn't stand women who flaunted their wealth like that.
"I know whoever pays first gets it. How much is this necklace? I'll buy it now!" Shirley said, slapping her bank card on the counter.
"This necklace is $120,000," the sales clerk finally said, taken aback by Shirley's pushiness.
"$120,000?!" Shirley's eyes widened in shock.
"Are you here to show off? Is $120,000 too much for you, country bumpkin?" Sarah mocked.
"Who are you calling a country bumpkin? It's just $120,000. I have plenty of money. Swipe the card!" Shirley insisted, trying to save face.
"Hold on, we didn't say we didn't want it! We'll pay the $120,000!" Sarah stopped the sales clerk, refusing to back down.
"I'll offer more. Let's see who they sell it to! I'll pay $150,000!" Shirley challenged.
"Think we can't afford it? I'll pay $200,000. Keep raising the price if you dare. I'll respect you if you do!" Sarah shot back, unfazed.
"You can't let people like her get away with it. She doesn't know her place," Sarah said angrily.
"You're the one who doesn't know your place. I'll raise it by $100,000. Let's see if you can keep up!" Shirley, provoked, was ready to spend $300,000 on a $120,000 necklace.
"What are you doing?" Daniel, who had been watching in a daze, finally spoke up. Even he was shocked by the spending.
"Stay out of it! Today, I'm buying face. Feeling the pinch?" Shirley snapped at Daniel.
"You're just jealous of our youth and beauty, aren't you?" Sarah taunted Shirley.
"How dare you insult me?" Shirley turned pale with anger.
"Look at yourself. If I were as ugly as you, I'd rather die!" Sarah continued to mock.
"Come on! They're insulting me, and you won't help? Do you really have a thing for them?" Shirley, furious and outnumbered, vented her anger on Daniel.
"If you have the guts, don't rely on your man. I'll pay $400,000. Let's see if you can keep up!" Sarah raised the stakes, not noticing Chloe had already called Ethan.
Jessie, initially in a good mood, was now upset by the situation. She wanted to stop Sarah but decided to watch how things unfolded, wanting to see how everyone handled the problem.
